I have asperger's and I really like playing games where you can become a character and feel like you're in that world, like most roleplaying games. Sometimes, when I play shooter games, I make up my own story within online multiplayer as well.

I think there's just a huge double standard when it comes to video games and "addiction." No one questions those who spend hours watching TV or reading, but as soon as someone mentions they play more than an hour a day of video games people call them all sorts of unsavory things. Video games are an entertainment medium, and just like their book and film counterparts, are a spectrum that encompasses anything from violent garbage to incredibly sophisticated, "literary" works. It drives me nuts how some people are still so prejudiced.
Tangent aside, I guess video games are probably why I'm so well adjusted--or, as well adjusted as I am now hehe. I grew up absolutely in love with Final Fantasy and MMORPGs, being someone else always felt like such a nice escape from the hectic world around me. It's nice to know that they possibly had (and have) a positive impact on me.

John P I absolutely agree. I don’t watch tv at all. I hate it actually. With my laptop I can watch whatever I want whenever, so I don’t see any reason to use a tv. I play some video games now and then. My mom has been bugging me about it telling me how much I play, but she doesn’t say much when I watch anime or movies. I’m not sure why exactly.

SariaFan93 ive been playing sims since sims1 was released (I'm 29 now). I basically lived my life through the sims bc I didn't know how to interact in the real world. It even took me 7 years to get through high school bc I'd stay home to play sims bc it was more interesting. I literally was just diagnosed with Aspergers this week. I found out I was likely 4 to 5 grade levels above my peers and I wasn't a bad student, I was just bored and had no respect for authority or abiding by outside routines. I spent my teens and early 20s playing sims all day and all night bc it made sense to me and I could control it. I also didn't have to talk to anyone or see anyone. This was pre cellphones so when I was ingame, I had no msn messenger or MySpace access. I was completely isolated and I've never had that kind of peace since (my MacBook has hardware issues since I got it in 2008 so I've barely been able to play since then. I haven't even played sims 4 yet. I'm realising now that since I haven't had sims in my life to ground me, my life has been a rollercoaster, to say the very least. Since 2010 I've been diagnosed with practically every major mental illness and now it turns out I just have SAD and adhd. I was being treated with hardcore antipsychotics that would actually make me psychotic I think I need a new computer so I can have the sims back in my life lol

My Aunt, on a regular basis encouraged public interaction due to her like twice a week going on different outings like one week we went to a play, and a native american(American Indian) Pow Wow. and at another occasion we went to a classical orchestral concert, and a movie theater. My Parent also didn't allow electronics in the bedrooms other than alarm clocks. They also spent time with literature about an hour before bedtime with me.

Back then, I was surprised how my kid would put together scenarios of what happened in the game and real- life. It helped in coping and understanding. Rpgs are the best, but we discuss deeper issues and that has bought us closer too.

Aspie with hypercreativity here. I find if I’m not gaming I can’t stop making things. Building, macrame, cards, drawing mandalas, wood carving, succulent arrangements, weaving, ect. I just don’t stop. I can’t relax. People call me artistic and creative, but hypercreativity is draining and frustrating. I don’t often want to be making things, it feels like I’m forced by something to start then I have the frustration and anxiety because I can’t pull away from it and important tasks are waiting. Gaming helps pull me away from that state. I can relax and sit still. My hands are busy. I’m stimming. Ahh the peace is good. Then it starts. I take that hypercreativity into the games I play. For example I play Fallout3 over and over. I’m not even good at it. In the game I collect chessboards then take them to my home in Megaton and meticulously arrange them on the kitchen floor like new retro linoleum. I stack books neatly which I’ve collected, garden gnomes and so on. Then I’ll do a few quests, but stop as soon as I find a chessboard and add it to my floor. When I played the Assassins Creed games I found strange things to do there too. Still it’s more relaxing then non stop projects I give myself. That’s the good part. The bad part is I’m not overly focused on reality. I’m vague at work and often lose focus. I procrastinate and often I have to make a lot of time to catch up on life and things pile up around me. Oh and I’m anti- social yet friendly. I’m never lonely. I’m never bored. I envy those that have time for boredom. Oddly enough I’m a disability and mental health support worker. Highly respected and sort after. I guess it’s the empathy. I’ve become very good at masking. Most people don’t know I’m an Aspie. They just say I’m weird in a beautiful way. 😊

My son has played video games since he was a child. Lately everyone in the family has been thinking that there is something different. I finally spoke up and said what everyone was thinking. We think he has Aspergers Syndrome. He is 25 now. He is about to move to another state in a couple of months and when he gets moved, his dad is going to go with him to get tested and possibly diagnosed so he can move forward. He can't carry on a meaningful conversation. He's always talking in fantasy.

I have Aspergers and played video games for a very long time. Ever since I was a first grader, I played mostly PC games on a slow family computer. Then eventually started to play Harry Potter games on my first Gameboy Advance when I was about 10 or 11. Over time, I've collected and played various handheld games and consoles over the years gradually as birthday presents and Christmas gifts. With that said, I'd don't let gaming get in the way of my studies. I usually play it on the weekends or whenever I have free time outside of homework and projects. I've always kept a balance between grinding on Final Fantasy games and getting assignments done on the weekends well into college. Now that I'm out university and finally have my BA arts degree, I have some time to spare to play video games and doing art on my own.
The interesting thing is, if it wasn't for video games, I would not have chosen a degree path that I deeply care about. Ever since I got into Final Fantasy 7 right when I started high school, it pretty much jumpstarted my interest in drawing fan art, comics, and drawing in general. I wanted to become good at drawing so that I can draw any character or style while also having a style of my own. Also, I'm aware that art isn't appreciated as often as it should, yet I wanted to take an artistic path because I won't be able to invest the same amount of attention or passion in a STEM degree. Choosing art gave me the opportunity to become exposed to and reach an understanding of other cultures. It's also deeply intertwined with video games because it's a visual medium.
Also, I've found that playing video games benefitted me in other ways asides regulating stress. I used to be more irritable when something doesn't work right or I screw up on a boss battle. Over time, I've become more chill because anger would have clouded my focus and make it more difficult to solve a problem. Most games I play require a strategy or multiple ones, so it kind of helps me to regulate my emotional response.
And I'm playing Mobius Final Fantasy as I'm typing this comment. 😂

I'm diagnosed autistic and I am definitely addicted to video games. Due to having a lot of problems socializing with people, I much prefer to be at home on my own with my video games. This may sound weird but for me, I've always felt video game characters as my friends, I often imagine myself talking to them and when I am playing their games, it's like they are right there with me. Of course, I also really enjoy playing them which is likely why it turned into an addiction, sure you could argue it's not an addiction and just a way to help me relax but if you ask me, I'd say I am addicted to them.

Let alone video games being one of the best ways to calm down (they are therapeutic), they are also great for any tech or creative person to study and look at! I’m autistic and once I got into my teen years I became more suited for mainstream gaming and started playing games that everyone else was playing like violent, shoots games. I said to myself “ Games like say minecraft and other therapeutic autism friendly games are to “cringy” for me as I’m growing up and need to interact with similar neurotypical content” yet I rarely, very rarely do the exact opposite. I didn’t really see this happen as much when I started returning to my old autistic hobbies “which for me is to draw” and bring it to life better than before and create a real passion for one particular thing and branch it out into a living community of interests in my head and bring it to reality. That for me is the best part about autism

this is odd as I have autism and can not stand video games, they mainly bore me if I'm honest but weirdly have a massive interest in the outdoors like the woods and nature and walking also old glass bottles and history of the local area so I'm sure there are more things apart from just games that you need to check out off, have a friend who also has autism and apart from she has a huge extensive knowledge of ps4 and everything about it she also loves Motorcross and take a healthy part in the local events on the beach with her dirtbike in competitions

THIS VIDEO DESCRIBES ME SO MUCH.
I have been obsessed with video games, and I love specific video games. Video games, at least for this Aspie, are an escape from this reality and a window into a world I can control. As an Aspie, I do like fantasy games, but I also love the more 'neurotypical-favored' kinds of games like the shooters. It's fun to just shoot things once in a while, but I also like being able to be someone completely different than myself. I guess that's why I like Elder Scrolls and Fallout games so much...
Anyways, ignoring how off-track I got there, I think most of us Aspies and Autistic people enjoy video games because it lets us escape from a reality where we're considered outcasts and into the game reality, where we're powerful and can be important to what's going on. No one looks at us like we're the "weird kid" in video games, they look at us like we're the hero.

***** I'm actually working on going into the game design career path, and I've been trying to figure out an idea for a game showing my personal experiences with Aspergers. I want people to see how I see the world, and video games are probably the best way for me to do it. It's difficult to put into words, though, so it's difficult to put a plan onto paper or text-editor-document. Your videos, though, are definitely helping me figure out how to put my thoughts into words, and I'm glad your channel exists.
      Keep up the awesome work.

Is there any link between Autism & Cartoons/Anime or does this fall into line with this videos content of video games and comics.
I feel like I've learned allot about facial expressions and humor especially satire *The Simpsons* lol
Also when you did a video on ASD & Tourette's I wanted to know about excessive swearing when angry or having a complete meltdown.. I know that the swearing thing in Tourette's syndrome is pretty rare *less than 10%?? Don't quote me on that please lol
But is there any explanation on throwing a verbal hissy-fit other than them being an A$$Hole *which in reality they're not and feel absolutely terrible after said verbal onslaught..

Hi Dan! Firstly, huge thanks for this channel, it's so helpful! My partner has Asperger's and has a huge thing for FIFA in particular. I was wondering if you can speak about gaming and meltdowns in Aspies as he went REALLY the extra mile to fix the game as it's not working properly (kid you not, he's spoken to EA Sport who make FIFA several time but they ignored him). Basically the game is not working for him and he's having meltdowns because he can't fix the problem - he tried everything. I thoroughly support him, but I can't control that game and sadly it's affecting the rest of the family. Thank you! (BTW -you two look alike so much, it's weird and he's also a self taught musician :)

I don't think the main problem would be the violence in those games. The real problem is in the toxic community itself, which they say in lobbies whatever it is in your ID (Freud definition: the primitive and instinctual part of the mind that contains sexual and aggressive drives and hidden memories). This is what I think would may affect his behavior and possible could be a bad influence.

My children are 6 and 9. My son with autism is 9. I want them to continue working on social skills , and for their imaginations to continue to grow. My other son was diagnosed with social pragmatic disorder. If I wait until their brains have finished growing one day if they want to play them they could make that choice on their own with stronger social skills and cognitive skills through daily play and practice through everyday living and imaginative play which uses way more senses so their brains absorb much more. Just sharing my plan :)

I don’t know if I have asperger’s myself, but I can relate a lot of similarities. I have played MMORPG’s as an escape and hobby since the age of 12, I’m 25 now. I like the steady progression. I like the creativity aspect. I like the idea of my own world I can create. I like the idea of meeting friends in a space where I don’t feel judged. I go 100% at whatever I am interested in and video games have always been at the top. I’ve logged hundreds of days of playtime and memorized statistics and efficiency down to sciences.
What I don’t like is the judgment and criticism of the outside world assuming that video games are inherently bad and a complete waste of time. I feel as if they’ve helped me with mathematics, creativity, expanded my mind, and created some of the best memories of my life progressing with friends and unlocking harder and harder achievements through hours and days and weeks of studying until what I thought I couldn’t do becomes possible through practice. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted. And I don’t think it’s time wasted. I would say they saved me.

I would play Super Mario games on my DS, when I got older, I got into Professor Layton, Tomb Raider and Zelda, that was on my DS and Zelda was on my Wii. I had an XBox and I would play games like Assassins Creed, Kung Fu Panda and Minecraft.
The last Guardian and Assassins Creed Origins are ones I'm playing at the moment on my PS4.

I used to be super obsessed over RuneScape, borderline addicted at points. I'd spend anywhere from 5 hours all the way up to 10 hours a day just doing stuff, ranging from goofing around with people in Varrock, questing, exploring, lorehounding (At one point I got super hooked on the the lore of Zaros), it even bled into RUclips, some of the first videos I ended up watching were RuneScape comedy videos. Was quite something.
Then after that, I got involved with Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Minecraft, and Terraria.
I also used to have a super obsession over Yugioh (not really a videogame but I'm putting it here anyways). Spent a lot of time looking up different things about the cards. Trivia, lore, and the story each card had really drew me in. I did have to stop playing, mostly because the toxicity of the competitive player base was starting to get to me, but I still look at new cards to see what kind of story they bring.
I've also got a huge thing for Warcraft lore. Not really the games themselves (although Warcraft 3 is a fun game), but the insane amount of lore the Warcraft universe has. I find the reading experience to be a lot of fun.
Right now though, I think I sort of just alternate between different things. It's sort of been a mish-mash of the already above, but includes Metro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Subnautica, and Starbound (which is a new addition and I'm really enjoying it)
But, my absolute favorite game of all time is an Action JRPG. Dark Cloud. I really liked the music, the characters, the story, the town building mechanics, and I really, really liked the dungeon crawling & the bosses. I've heard Dark Chronicle is better, but I haven't gotten around to playing it (I will soon though)
(This was originally going to be way shorter, but I guess that got out of hand a bit. Eh.)

I'm autistic as well. My favorite video game genre was first person shooters and I wished being a professional tournament player of these games. However, I started being nervous on FPS games, specially multiplayer PvP ones, when I lose a match, see a player a lot better than me or don't complete a goal like killing lots of players in a single match. Then my mom told me to stop playing these games and playing other genres instead.

I agree. I love role-playing games (or any game with role-playing potential). I have found that playing RPGs help me become more socially aware -- my character has to navigate dialogue options and socialize with NPCs; somehow, when I have recently played an RPG, I find myself more relaxed around other people. Video games are unmatched in their ability to relax me, which is great, because I'm perpetually tense.

I’m really gaining more perspective. I came here to learn about a child I’m helping to prepare him to cope with school. He’s 5 years old. However, I’m recognising some traits my son displays. He’s 28 and was home schooled because he was a high functioning child and I thought the school system would crush him. As a adult, he blames me for his lack of social skills. His friends now are men who went to school, and when my son does or says something awkward, someone in the group says something and he laughs it off with ^ oh, I was home schooled^ and everyone then says oh, and immediately understands the lack of social skills. I suspect Aspergers because as a child he also didn’t know how to interact with kids ( I thought that his intelligence placed him in a different group, he didn’t have anything in common with his preschool peers). He was/still is, obsessive when it comes to something that intrigues him. Today, he obsesses over fantasy novels and fantasy video games, anime (even learning the language).
Back to the little boy I’m working with, I’ve noticed he doesn’t like touching paint, glue, sand, soil or water. He tells me they hurt him. He is also obsessive with everything Spider-Man. And this is the way I can each him. We talk and do activities around this theme. He is now interested in making stories, learning to read, read reactions and explain his thinking using Spider-Man as his hero. eg. he understands the mantra *with great poet comes great responsibility * something Spider-Man’s father told him. I’d like to know your thoughts about both boys

RPGs and fantasy does keep me calm and I enjoy it a lot.

Perhaps those on the spectrum like videogames because videogames essentially teach patterns using core mechanics, think of something like mario or sonic. I myself have aspergers syndrome and i know i live videogames just because it's an art form that helps me understand the world like any other. There is an online shooter game i play, but it's not just blood and violence, you have to use your characters abilities strategically in order to win the game. I honestly can't say if my love for videogames is in anyway linked to my ASD, but i know they will always have a special place in my heart.

Despite video games being very demonized in my family, I have clung to them in times where life got too hard for me and I could not see a way through my problems, I really resonate with the idea of being able to see myself in a character who is going through something that seems impossible to get through and walk myself through it through them. I feel that I am able to learn more about myself in a safe way, gather inspiration and hope through a very hands on experience, so much that I can even feel some of that hope and tenacity for life coming back because of playing a character, who like a person below was saying, is a more BA version of themselves. When all the advice or the words for overcoming crazy bad things seem overly simple, fantasy mmorpgs have always given me a way to rekindle the heroic relationship with myself and by being able to see myself as a hero and God as the light, through a video games, I have been able to pick myself up in times where things looked too hopeless to continue even fighting the fights of life. Video games with intention, can be such a force for good.

I am an Aspie but I got therapists at 7 years old so meh. I can speak so confidently, have a superficial aura even, and I have no problem being laughed at, with, or spoken to.
I think somewhere while I was 6 or 7, I actually got my hands on a Warhammar 40,000 Dawn of War PC-CD game.
Oh hell, it was so epic to me.
I played the campaign, because we did not have Ethernet to the PC yet, and that made me click Campaign often on the PS2 I had.
So I was playing, I didn't understand the first "Commander, we must be stealthy!" kinda mission, up until I sent my two squads and they got killed easily. And Space Marines were sent in instead to cover up my failure.
I was thinking something similar to "The soldiers died, I don't want those soldiers to die, I will try again."
I learned pretty darn fast what *that bush over there* did to NPC eyesight, and tactical timing.
(Also those skills helped when I was playing Splinter Cell when I was 9.)
And so I built my first base and I waited. Unsure what to do. Until some Orks come along and attack my base. I look further ahead and see that they're sending more.
I become so full of fury that I wiped them off the map in 10 minutes with *DETERMINATION*.
The age limits didn't seem to mean much back in the day. I do think video games did more for me than anything else did.
Except of course, I had a friend in first grade who was the only really nice friend to me, and she helped me be more confident in playing with others, and never teased or bullied me (not that I was being bullied that much anyways ~\_(' - ')_/~), but now in high school, me and her, we're kinda lovey-dovey sweethearts, haha.
I really don't see how an Aspie can have a nice life.

I have Asperger's Syndrome and have a pretty long history with gaming. I got my first system, a Nintendo DS Lite, when I was 7 years old, for Christmas. That's around the time I first started playing Zelda. Needless to say, since Phantom Hourglass was heavy on puzzles, I did not get very far, and I didn't beat the game until I was 16, right after I went through a very messy breakup. I got my first Pokemon game, Pokemon Pearl, for my 9th birthday. I have Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, Emerald, Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky, Pokemon Ranger Shadows of Almia, Pokemon Soulsilver, Pokemon Black, Pokemon Black 2, Pokemon White 2, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, ORAS, and last Christmas I got Sun and Moon. I dabbled in Wizard 101 when I was in Middle School, but there's a massive paywall so I have since then quit. I play Adventure Quest Worlds, and I've joined a guild in it, and I have been doing most of my videos lately on AQW. I also play Minecraft on the Xbox 360, and I got it for Christmas of 2015. I play video games because it helps me to escape all the bull that goes on in the "real world," and having my channel gives me a way to share the feeling I get when I play the games. Playing video games has also helped me gain friendships, as I stated before that I am in a Guild for AQW. I actually met a guy who also has Asperger's in the Guild (I'm a girl), and he and I have started dating long-distance. He and I both have our own problems, but we help each other and we become stronger together. Back to the Pokemon thing though, when I was first diagnosed, I was first getting into Pokemon, and when they brought me into this Doctor's Office-looking space, I saw a book about Pokemon, and I was immediately drawn towards it. I didn't want to talk to the doctor; I wanted to read the book. I seriously did not know why I was at the hospital (I was diagnosed in a Hospital as part of a study of the relationship between Genetics and Autism), and I frankly did not care about anything this strange man in that labcoat had to say to me. I just wanted to read the book, find out where he got the book, buy a copy for myself, and go home. Did I get that? No. No I didn't. Anyways, after the DSM-V came out, which basically got rid of the Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis, I had to get rediagnosed, this time with Autism. This was right after I started playing Minecraft, and I would NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT. Like, even _I_ would have gotten annoyed with myself if present me were there with past me. That's how much I was talking about it. I love building stuff in Minecraft. I have build a castle inside of a Mountain Range, and it is completely self-sufficient. (You can find it on my channel, although I apologize in advance for the bad video quality. I was shooting the video with my phone, perched on a camera tripod, aimed at the television screen. It was always a messy process to get the camera set up.) So anyways, that's my story.

P.S. I was wondering how you're able to keep your eyes focused on the camera so well. On the occasion I do Vlogs, you'll notice my eyes dart around. It not only makes me uncomfortable to look at eyes, it causes me pain. Physical pain. Like burning. I once jokingly had a staring contest with one of my teachers who I'm particularly close to, because usually how close I am to a person is reflected in how comfortable I am with looking in their eyes, how close I'm okay with them being to me in a general setting, etc. etc. I only lasted about two minutes, and I was about ready to cry afterwards because how much my eyes hurt. The same concept holds true for a camera when I'm making a video. That's why I mostly stick to gaming. Do you have any tips for me to be able to look at the camera, and possibly be able to last longer during my next staring contest with my teacher?

I'm obsessed with FIFA & football manager because I follow football religiously and I coach for a living I use it as a tool to help communicate with my players cause I coach youth development football. So rather than using coaches terms I use FIFA 'buzzwords'
My parents use to hate me spending hours a day on FIFA but it seriously helps me focus on upcoming jobs & tactics 😂😂

I have aspergers and I agree on the RPG notion. I tend to favor stuff like that or a lot of classic Nintendo because its relaxing. And Pokemon despite not keeping up with every single entry in the franchise is a series I can jump back into easily and enjoy. I love the creativity and collecting and catching Pokemon. Its just fun for me.

I have Aspergers, and I do love video games, but were never a specific obsession as much as they were simply one of the lay activities my brother and I did after school along with watching cartoons. I played a number of the Nintendo classics (Pokemon, Zelda, Harvest Moon, Mario Kart) or whatever was child-friendly at the time, and now I'm branching out.
Now I sample various things: iPad puzzle/brain-training games, fantasy, RPG, and yes, shooter... I just set it to easy mode (I'm not great but that doesn't stop me) and turn down the volume so I don't go through the ceiling when there's jumpscares or sudden loud noises.
That said, I'm not playing games all day long. I'm an all-around nerd who likes anything with good storytelling and imagination. As a result, I like things like TV, movies, books, mythology, art, and yes, video games. Of course there are specific series that I especially like, that happens with most people who like this stuff and it's called fandom. Why am I 'obsessed' for enjoying specific things just because I'm the one with autism?
Thank you for the interesting video. I know this is a late comment, but I thought I'd toss in my two cents.

Video game addiction is a real thing, pretty much been dealing with it my whole life, sad but true, feel totally bored and just down when not playing games and I can literally loose whole days and weeks playing games, often can forget to eat because so engrossed in my games. Can't say how much sleep I missed from playing games for days on end, sure IV used the escapist excuse. Video game information also seems have a higher priority in my memory, I can't tell you half the names of musicians IV heard but I could tell you every game IV ever played and probably even be able to talk you through each of the games totally from memory. If this isn't an addiction I don't know what is.

I know its been a long time since the vid but I guess I'll throw in my take. With my Autism, gaming for me has been apart of my life, for... well a long time. The first game was te Lego Batman, Overtime gaming has just been apart of my life. Especially Horror games, like Fnaf, Resident Evil, and many others. I did like RPG like WOW and some Tell tale games. It taught me how to be more socially aware, and taught me some core mechanics of Video games. Right now I'm gonna try and get a major in Game Design

As an older aspie I feel like there's two points that don't often get covered with "Autism&Video Games" videos.
There are very clear cut rules and expectations, if you don't know something you can google it or test over and over again without consequence
Social interaction as much as I want, when I want, in an environment I am extremely comfortable with
These two things are a couple of the huge things that draw me to video games.

I was obsessed with the "Spyro" game. Playstation 2. I didn't follow the game's purpose but I played my way. That is: I had to collect diamonds by running without crashing and if I failed, I would repeat the level. Another 0bsession was "The Sims", the one for the old computers. I used to spend hours of my life with that game by building houses. I didn't like rules and challenges 😂🤦‍♀️ (I'm italian so, please, forgive my mistakes)

My boyfriend has aspergers and plays video games a lot. Like an unhealthy amount. Sometimes 10+ hours a day. I didn't think about that causing him to play so much. He's trying now to cut down and I'm trying to be supportive & help him all I can (we're long distance) but it's hard sometimes feeling like he'd rather be playing online with other people than spending time with me during the day.

I have a huge love of animal crossing. Strangely I find it helps with social things a lot because you talk to your villagers and they like you and they can't hate you ahahah. It's at a point where I play it on my bus to college, on study periods, when I'm scared basically constantly.
But it's a game I would suggest to most aspies. It's very chilled out and calming and involves quite soft socialisation. The graphics and music is really soothing too and I find it helps me to feel in control when things are overwhelming
    I know it's viewed as a kids game and I'm like 18 but I don't care because it's a lovely game 😊

“Crazy, I don’t think that people get addicted to video games. I think it’s something they to do relax” sounds exactly like something an addict would say to excuse their repetitive actions. Obviously needs to be taken with a grain of salt and looked at in context.

I have aspergers and before I was diagnosed I was COMPLETELY hooked on the game worms2: Armageddon. I could play for hours and hours and my days would disappear. I have time attack records for using ninja ropes and jetpacks and got very good overall... I agree that (for me) it wasn't really an addiction because I had no withdrawal symptoms when not playing. It did end up an unhealthy obsession but did help me relax and take my mind of things...

I'm not a typical autistic, and I really really hate most video games because of my sensory issues and slow reaction time. Puzzle games are fine but your usual jumping shooting sort of game is sheer torture. However I do very much like Second Life, because I can actually socialize without the sort of sensory-overload I get in real life. It's been very educational for me, socially speaking. And I've noticed that there are quite a lot of Aspies and other autistics there; it's not just me.

I’m still in the process of getting a diagnosis. I’m on a three-year waiting list finally but I laugh because I should just show them. The amount of hours I put into games like the sims.
I don’t even think they would have to assess me. It would be enough right there. I have over 8000 hours on the Sims 4 😂
And that doesn’t include all the years I probably spent playing all the other Sims . I’ve been playing video games, basically since I was alive. (Really since 6, I got my first game boy and you were spot on with Pokémon, I still play the games to this day and I’m 30)
