    In listing the progenitor giants you mentioned Arno and Julient (I'm guessing on the spelling) as the father(s) of the Ettins. You Ettin video did not mention this at all, but this does confirm what you've touched on about the lore changing from one edition to the next.

    This is one of my favorites. I didnt realise they were so complicated. It does confuse me that the artwork for Furbolgs looked super different in one of the older books. Would be fun to see what has changed/added to with the Tarrasque in D&D.
    Though I did a research kind of D&D adventure in which a group of players were sent by a school of magic an study to uncover as much information on the creature as they could, even possibly finding out the origin of the creature if possible. In the course of the adventure the group found out the Tarrasque (atleast in my version) was related to Goblin-oid races, and that it was a form of champion of the Goblin/orc/hobgoblin pantheon.
    Though in my setting the Goblinoid races are not different races, but more of one singular race with each race (goblin, hobgoblin, orc, and such) being a stage of their lifecycle. An the Tarrasque being the final stage that only a finite number of their kind could reach, and needed to be chosen by the whole pantheon to actually become.

    How do you get killed in the form of a mountain exactly?

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  7 лет назад +3

      Good question, one that vexed her murderous son as well, Lanaxis (father of titans) settled on poison as the means, but messed up his first attempt and ended up killing all his brothers, except for Dunmore and Arno/Julian. The poison took a while to kill Othea, enough time for her to lay a curse on Lanaxis, that if he ever left the shadow of the mountain, he would forsake his immortality and be able to be killed.. so, he hung out around the corpse of his dead mountain mother for quite a while, and everyone sort of forgot about him.

    Hey I have a question that's been plaguing me as a DM that I hope you could give me some pointers on. I guess I need some help understanding the ecology of character levels you cold say. How do I explain why my players at level 8 are beyond the typical city guard come to arrest them for trouble at the inn or that at level 13/14 they really toss around your typical guards like tin toys, then nuke the local knights and really only a lvl 20 grand wizard of the collage will need to be called in to deal with these psychopaths. I guess what my question really boils down to is how would a city like Waterdeep deal with rambunctious player characters at various levels?

    • @AJPickett
      @AJPickett  7 лет назад +1

      In 5th edition it comes down to numbers, pure and simple, a higher level character gets more and more guards show up, and in those groups of guards are more dangerous veterans, knights, captains and spell slingers.. then you can use the Mob rules in the DMG (I did a video in this) and your cocky high level characters will be scrambling to get out of there within a few rounds, as they take some shocking amounts of damage, while only being able to pick off the guards one or a few at a time. Bounded accuracy in 5th edition means that it is more of a level playing field, and outnumbering your foe makes a big difference, combine that with the guards being able to move in formations to divide the party and concentrate on one of them at a time, and when the first character drops to 0 with the last few hits in subdued damage (and being trussed up in enchanted manacles), the players will probably react emotionally.. lets be honest, they won't like being ass whipped by simple city defenders.. then you let them know they are in jail, all their equipment is now owned by the nobility and we rejoin the game four years later when they are thrown out of prison dressed in rags, minus some constitution and strength thanks to undernourishment. You know how much damage of volley of 30 crossbow bolts does? It is a LOT.

    • @travisspencer6704
      @travisspencer6704 7 лет назад +2

      AJ Pickett thank you so much for that. I did see your video on the guards and absolutely loved it. Your really doing an amazing job here. I especially like the idea of rejoining the campaign four years later. They really could use some humbling and I think this would do the trick. @AJPickett  7 лет назад +2

      So Goliath are basically half giants, how they fit into the genealogy is wide open to debate however, I would hazard a guess that they are related to Stone Giants. Firbolg and Goliath probably have an amicable relationship, culturally and personally. The Firbolg are physically impressive humanoids and Goliath respect strength and stature, so, off to a good start from first impression, the lack of competitiveness would incite the Goliath to try and provoke the Firbolg into some sort of friendly rivalry, to 'settle who can lift more, in case anyone wonders" or some such. The Firbolg would sense that there is a deeper connection to the land, the stone and roots of the world in the extroverted Goliath, and strive to connect to their more mystical side.
