Derek Dooley, Mr Sheffield. Probably the best footballer both Wednesday and United ever saw. Adored by football fans across the city his funeral in 2008 was very well attended. Who was Derek Dooley ? really Lee.
First of all, that Burger looked delicious. Youve probably been told who Derek Dooley was but too many comments to go through, so if not...Dooley was a striker for Sheffield Wednesday in the early 50s scoring around 60 goals in 60 games before a bad leg break resulted in it getting infected and tragically needing to be amputed. He was famously sacked as manager of Wednesday on Xmas eve 1973. He ended up being commercial director and other posts across the City at Sheffield United for many years.
I’d have to give Wendy’s another shot after I was let down by The Baconator last time. One burger I do love though, is Mos Burger in Japan, had my first one the other night and the beef was better than Maccies too.
That looked like a mighty fine burger! I remember having a Wendy’s in Leeds city centre in the 1980’s, and me and my friends went in a few times. Loved the square burgers lol!
My brother went to the Florida "Wendy's" and he fully enjoyed it. If you ever visit Hull again , they have a fab burger place called Paragon Burger across the road from the train station. I love their King Kong Burger and fries 🍟
Wendy's burgers do look really good Lee but McDonald's needn't worry too much as the price difference is to vast, you get what you pay for at the end of the day !🙂
There’s a good Wendy’s in Punta Cana airport in the Dominican Republic - an absolute treat after two weeks of all inclusive food!!!! It is always packed with Brits desperate for a decent portion of fries!!!!
It's good that Wendy's is back in the UK. I remember the old one that used to be in Piccadilly Circus. I love the fact that they have square shaped burgers.
@@markwilliamlacey Yeah - "the International Food Buffet" - I think I remember that as well, in the Piccadilly Circus one downstairs section. I was sad when Wendy's in Piccadilly Circus became a McD's.
Use to love the oxford street one in London about 20years ago had a salad bar downstairs. Got to have the chilli and jacket potato !! I am glad they have started coming back to the uk again
I like Wendy's burgers and fries here in the US. Many people refer to the triple as "The triple bypass special" due to the fact it has more sodium than the large fries. I like getting the 4 for $4 deal. You can feed 3 people for $12 plus tax.😁
I tried Dairy Queen in Cyprus way back in 89, was delicious but never made UK. Tried TGI Fridays in Times Square and was awful compared to UK. Great vlog Lee x
Just thought you and your viewers would be interested to know that Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy’s, was actually an English man who emigrated to the USA. He named the restaurant “Wendy’s “ after his daughter! A very healthy and delicious choice from there is their chili con carne…I like mine on a baked potato (jacket potato) Cheers from Seattle, WA
Wendy's in NYC is sub par to other Wendy's out there. I live in the upper mid west (USA) and have a Wendy's about 4 miles from me ( I also have 3 MacCrap in that same 4 mi ring). The Wendy's by me is great in service and food. I have 2 more a little farther away that are really good. When you come here in a bit, in the Midwest we have another great fast food place - CULVER'S. They also have fish and chips to add to the menu. Hope you get to try them too. Have a safe trip.
It does not surprise me that the Burgers and Chips are better in the UK Wendy's versus the New York Wendys, look at all the chemicals, steroids, fake sugars and crap put in all American food, its there to increase profits for food makers, but non of it is good for us, Id take British Fast Food over American any day. I've been eating Wendy's for about 40 years off and on, you cant judge a chain on one store, they are always its hit n miss, Burger kings in our area are rubbish, I haven't been in one in two years, Mcd is good n bad, you take your chances, that's how it is here. Right now Wendy' are saying people prefer Wendy's fries 2 to 1 over Mcd, I always order my fries salt free as they all seem to over salt them, that way you get Fresh. we order burgers and chicken sandwiches plain that was its fresh too.
Cracking video as usual but loved the intro, we should be over the worst of winter, heading to lighter nights and warm weather and…. the return of the silver fox to the channel! Things are looking up.
Glad you enjoyed Wendy's and gave it a good rating. I've been to the Wendy's in Ilford and Romford and they far surpass the other burger fast food outlets. The only thing stopping me ordering a triple Dave burger is 1205 calories!
Bit of trivia for you. Did you know that Sheffield is the only city in the UK, possibly the world that has it's own "Made in" logo. Every where else has to use "Made in UK,GB" etc. It was granted in parliament in 1624 and still stands today. The very first reference to Made in Sheffield was a tax return filed in 1297. Us born here are proud to be "Made in Sheffield"
It looked freshly cooked. The bacon was wet showing the fat was fresh from the grill. The tomato by the way is a beefsteak. Plum tomatoes are plum shaped, the one you get in cans. Excellent.
Derek dooley was a great footballer for sheffield wednesday, he also managed them till they sacked him on Christmas eve, he got injured playing for them and lost his leg through gangrene. He then became a director of sheffield united. A true sheffield legend.
Bloody hell I'm the one who told you about Wendy's opening up in Sheffield i messaged you on Instagram lol. I still haven't been myself yet it's bigger than I thought inside I've only seen it when walking past. Didn't know it had an upstairs. I could of bumped in to you in Town lol. I hope you didn't bump into any spice heads as they tend to hang about on High Street.
Truth is the charges all get passed on to the End User the General Public, Its a farce, it provides a job for those nitpicky people who want to nickel and dime you, boy am I in a mood. lol
I fondly remember Wendy's UK incursion in the nineties, really tasty. Those square burgers... I missed them when they disappeared. Hopefully the market suits them now. McDonald's, like Greggs expanded ridiculously quickly, achieved an easy recognition, familiar menu, before everyone realised their product was not really that great. 😁 Great marketing, simple menu and product. Sadly, I'm not sure Wendy's can compete with them, even now. People are loyal to that conditioning McDonald's can afford, which always puts the better product in the shade, sadly much like before.
Didn’t Google it but I believe that ‘Derek Dooley MBE (13 December 1929 - 5 March 2008) was an English football player, manager and chairman. He lived in Sheffield for the majority of his life, taking roles at both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United’
He shares my birthday, but I'm a fair bit younger. I do remember him very well, he was in the past a bit of a legend in Sheffield sort of like Cloughie in Derby and Nottingham. Only the old brigade will remember him now though I think.
Sheffield is Yorkshire, and Sheffielder's are dam proud of being a great part of Yorkshire, Look at what Hi Tech and specialty steel products Sheffield brings to the table, it sez a lot, plus the people in Sheffield are Salt of the Earth, Sheffielders certainly would not want to be part of Notts, the quality of fish n chips would drop and everybody would be calling each other Ducky or Me Duck instead of "Love".
Hey Lee! Never been to Wendy’s. I would have gone for chicken sandwich/ burger myself. Controversial how it’s said. I don’t have normal burgers often but it wasn’t a bad price for triple patties. Most fast food burger chains are getting costly especially if you have a family like yourself. I’ve had a takeaway tonight. But from an independent business, Cost £22 for a chicken burger, fries and drink, a 9” calzone, hot wings and a pizza. Much better quality and a cheaper way to feed my family. Loving the ice cream shake though Thick enough the spoon sits up in it. Take care 😘👍🏻
Derek Dooley is a footballing legend at both Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United. He was a player and Manager for Wednesday then went to United to work for the club behind the scenes
Used to like Wendy's and was disappointed when they pulled out of the UK in the 90's. Reading Berkshire was one of their first branches when they re-entered the market in late 2021 it's the nearest big town to us so I've chomped there about 4 or 5 times. Was particularly impressed last visit on a very rainy day in late November to see they now force the delivery riders/drivers to wait outside beneath a small window hatch about 5 feet above the pavement rather than obstruct customers inside - a practice other fast food joints should follow. I can also recommend their branch in Manila (Makati) about a third of UK prices. Like you say Lee McDonalds watch out.
Loved the review. I have to say that you drove into Sheff through the industrial quarter, so you missed out on all the greenery, but that can't be helped as it's the quickest way from Leeds. Thanks for posting this though!
30 years ago there was a Wendys on Briggate in Leeds, great burgers and the salad bar was off the scale. Best burgers in town! I was devastated when it shut, maybe not devastated but definitely cheesed off..... Glad it's back in the UK.
Had a Wendy's in Brighton last year - I agree it's much better than McD's. I think the big tomatoes are called beef tomatoes - plum toms are the ones you like on your Full English Lee...
If its done properly like in some European cities, keeping cars out of city centres doesn't kill anything and makes it a generally more pleasant space to be
We have a Wendy's five minutes away from us in Stratford, London. I prefer Wendy's way over than McDonald's. I usually have a Dave's Double with fries. They are so good in my area, I have at times had a double three days in a row. Your triple looked awesome but I personally couldn't manage that. 9 out of 10 is an accurate and very fair figure 👍🏽😊👏🏽♥️
That looked really nice to be fair mate. Not sure if we have a Wendy’s here in Brum or Solihull but will have to check. The price didn’t seem overly cheap but the quality did look better than Macdonalds and Burger King. I’ll go 8.5/10. You done a blog with Craig from Dad Loves Food last year and he highly recommends a couple of places by him called Fries ‘n’ Burgz and Five Guys. Not sure if you’ve ever tried them mate? Great video buddy and will look out to see if there are any Wendy’s near me👍
First time I had a Wendy's square burger was when we emigrated to upstate NY early 80's as a kid and I can still remember they were lovely.back in the UK now and I remember Bradford having a Wendy's over 20 years ago.
Why did you find it strange that the NY version was inferior when most of the ingredients in US food products are illegal in Europe. The UK version is far healthier and more important, not full of growth hormones and carcinogens like the US version.
I've heard of Wendy's but I've never seen one or been to one so this was nice to see what they're actually like. When you said that's where you were going, I thought oh no, same sh** as McDonalds, Burger King and the rest. Then outside it said 'Quality Burgers' on the wall, I thought, yeah right! I was however, quite surprised here, the burger did look very nice to me and very meaty and moist unlike some which are dry. I'm not a fan of brioche buns but hey, you can't have everything apparently. Apart from the tomato and the rabbit food, I didn't see any other unnecessary items on it either, onions and cheese will suffice for me. The chips looked much better than other similar places too. I'm unsure about the milk shake and dipping your chips in it though, uurgghh! You said that this place was next to a McDonalds, you would definitely go here instead.
I have been to a Wendy's in Orlando in America. Lets say the breakfast wasn't that great and I had the American equivalent to a full English breakfast. Outback steakhouse is a good restaurant to visit in America, I just wish they had one here in the UK.
If you have a Euro 6 compliant diesel ULEZ doesn’t charge. That’s speaking for when I go to London (with work not by choice 😂) When I go to Sheffield I go to Neeps End. I love that area with its really old warehouses etc. there’s one that’s turned into a bar/coffee bar thing. Pop in for a coffee 👌🏼👌🏼 It’s called “The Heist” they do food as well which looks amazing. Your food looked bang on, fresh and lime real food, no Michael Douglas moment reqd 😂 I’ll give this a 9/10
I really loved the burger fries and nuggets but the frosty I had was shocking it was literally just a cup of whippy ice cream. The strawberry frosty I had both times I've had one in Orlando was so much nicer and different in texture than just ice cream. Also when I went they had no sauces apart from the ketchup pump
I remember Derek Dooley, he played centre forward for Sheffield Wednesday in the 50s/early 60s. He sustained a bad injury which resulted in him losing a leg. I'm sure he worked for many years afterwards in Wednesday's commercial department.
No it was at united's commercial, he became uniteds commercial director and got a place on the board. He was Wednesdays manger, till they sacked him on Xmas eve 1973.
I absolutely adore Wendy's Spicy Chicken Burger...probably too much if I'm honest!!! My local branch in Brighton has the friendliest staff and when I've ordered home delivery they even write a little message on the delivery bag!! It's become my "go to" burger joint and those chocolate Frosty's are like heaven!
It has been many years since I've had a Wendy's burger. Loved them. Yours looked great. However, one negative observation: was there any bacon on that fat?
Interesting lee we all have different options about fast food places but i enjoy the washing up at mcdonalnes but i am intrusted to see what happens at Wendys.
We did have a Wendy's in Leeds back in the Day ---- Retro diner chain Wendy's is making a comeback to English high streets for the first time in 21 years
I always head to Wendy's if I'm working in the US, better than all the other big ones. It's called the Dave Burger after the founder Dave Thomas. He started at KFC and invented their Air-Fryer system of cooking chicken, now known worldwide. He started up Wendy's as a sort of retirement plan to pass on to his daughters, who are still on the company board. Great food for a chain joint.
Liked Wendy's more than McDonald's before they walked away from the UK a number of years ago. The most memorable Wendy's I had take away was at the Grand Canyon. Ate it sat with my legs dangling over the canyon
I want too try Wendy’s Lee . A passed this one Saturday. And next too McDonalds too 😂. Derek Dooley played for Sheffield Wednesday. And was Sheffield United chairman. A Sheffield legend . 😊
I've dipped fries in milkshakes for over 20 years - Strawberry or Chocolate. Wish I could get to a wendys. I can't find a list of locations on the UK site :(
Tend to find, that people a bit further north in Yorkshire are a bit more defensive. They don't embrace the day for what it is and view everyone else with just a tad more suspicion. Prefer the Sheffield feel any day. Sheffield folk are no mugs, but are more willing to accept strangers. Perfect balance for me and i now live in Lincolnshire. Lived in both parts of Yorkshire, but for me, Sheffield was the best. Miss it loads.
I live in the US and in my fast food hierarchy, Wendys > McDonalds > Burger King, unless of course you feel like Taco Bell. For breakfast, I'd put McDonalds>BK>Wendys. I've found that fast food outlets in New York City - perhaps any large city - are worse than those in suburban areas. They are often cramped, have limited seating, tend to be dirtier and have less friendly service. I've also found them to be more expensive and the food is usually less appealing, so I'm not terribly shocked by your Wendy's in New York review. Here in Connecticut, truly suburbia compared to being within the five boroughs of NYC, my local Wendy's has a modern decor, it's usually clean and the food is good (for fast food). You had mentioned the Sheffield location seemed to have a smaller menu than the US but it looked pretty similar to me. Wendy's chicken and spicy chicken sandwiches are very good, in my opinion, easily rivaling or besting those from other national fast food chains like KFC, Popeyes or McDs. Not sure where in the US you will be visiting next, but if you're in Florida or Texas, hope to see you in a Bucees enormous gas station (they have food!) or perhaps try a Sheetz made-to-order in the Carolinas. The southeast US has some gems for fast food outlets, such as Bojangles and Zaxbys. If out west, of course there is the famous In and Out Burger. Safe travels and good luck, Lee!
I'm a lifelong NYC resident (although I've traveled pretty much everywhere) and unfortunately I have to agree with you about NYC fast food. One reason is that this industry came late to NYC; the first McDonald's here was opened in about 1968 in my old neighborhood. Other reasons are real estate & rent, staff hiring, and even the customers. I agree with everything else you said, except that I prefer Popeye's chicken sandwich to all the others... but they're hard to find around here. I would never go looking for a fast food burger in NYC over a diner or luncheonette.
@@richardgelber2740 A lot of people like Popeyes, so you're certainly not alone...I guess I don't really care for it. Maybe the one near me isnt the best representative of the brand or something. Also, another sort of national chain is Sonic. Good for desserts and ice cream but I don't particularly care for their burgers, sandwiches or fries. The rollerskating servers are a neat gimmick but it doesnt work so well up north in the winter. How American of us discussing all of our fast food establishments with such conviction and passion!
Oh Lee fries dipped in the frosty! Can't take you anywhere, the blonde angel I'm sure would have told you off for that LOL 😂. Looked spot on though and a 8.5 for me which is a great score for a fast food chain.

There's one just opened near where I live at Brampton Hut off the A1/A14 in Cambs. Totally agree, up there with Five Guys IMO, but a lot cheaper
Can't beat a bit of a POSITIVITY.
Great stuff.
That’s speaking for when I go to London (with work not by choice 😂)
When I go to Sheffield I go to Neeps End. I love that area with its really old warehouses etc. there’s one that’s turned into a bar/coffee bar thing. Pop in for a coffee 👌🏼👌🏼 It’s called “The Heist” they do food as well which looks amazing.
Your food looked bang on, fresh and lime real food, no Michael Douglas moment reqd 😂
I’ll give this a 9/10
I really loved the burger fries and nuggets but the frosty I had was shocking it was literally just a cup of whippy ice cream. The strawberry frosty I had both times I've had one in Orlando was so much nicer and different in texture than just ice cream. Also when I went they had no sauces apart from the ketchup pump
Their Frosties are a bit bland.
McDonald's milkshakes are much better but more expensive.
I've got to say been watching a lot of vids now & editing is on point. Reminds of casey nastate....😉
That was a great looking burger. Love it when you put the Pulp Fiction clip in.
Interesting lee we all have different options about fast food places but i enjoy the washing up at mcdonalnes but i am intrusted to see what happens at Wendys.
We did have a Wendy's in Leeds back in the Day ---- Retro diner chain Wendy's is making a comeback to English high streets for the first time in 21 years
Love Falling Down, sorry miserable squashed thing 😂😂 hope your ok buddy ♥️
Looked delicious and loved the look of the milkshake. Great vid 👍
But have they got the Dave Clarke Five?... Gather that's the one they throw bits n pieces in to create the ultimate no.1 burger.
The Wendy's in NYC opposite the Empire is nice! I can't wait to see more of these coming to a town near me. 🙂
The town hall tyrants are out of control with their desperation to penalise motorists
Liked Wendy's more than McDonald's before they walked away from the UK a number of years ago. The most memorable Wendy's I had take away was at the Grand Canyon. Ate it sat with my legs dangling over the canyon
You should dip the fries in the milkshake, it really does work!
Got one in Romford and later this year Colchester as one coming cant wait .
Thanks for the new video lovely bring on the spring
Wendy's have always been superior to McD's but Wendy's chain disappeared from the Uk
glad they are back.
I want too try Wendy’s Lee . A passed this one Saturday. And next too McDonalds too 😂. Derek Dooley played for Sheffield Wednesday. And was Sheffield United chairman. A Sheffield legend . 😊
Love your videos... Keep up the good work. :)
There used to be one in Doncaster years ago, I liked it but closed down
The traffic warden was looking at Lee's posh car lol
that looks way better than a Mcdonalds
man that looks an epic burger - think I'm in lust..............
I've dipped fries in milkshakes for over 20 years - Strawberry or Chocolate. Wish I could get to a wendys. I can't find a list of locations on the UK site :(
Looked really good. Bit pricey but 9/10 is good.
Makes me want a Wendy's now, I tried it once in maryland us 1996 so can't really remember
Cracking burger and nice looking fries. Bacon looked a bit too fatty for me. More like streaky bacon. For that I will give it a 8.5 👍
I live in the US and in my fast food hierarchy, Wendys > McDonalds > Burger King, unless of course you feel like Taco Bell.
I tried a Wendys when i was in Florida and loved it😋. Brioche buns, cant stand them 🤮🤮
Am I a bad person for wantng you to not like it and to go on a Michael Douglas style rampage round the streets of Sheffield?
In South Sheffield they say me duck. This is because a large part of South Sheffield was originally in Derbyshire.
Oh Lee fries dipped in the frosty! Can't take you anywhere, the blonde angel I'm sure would have told you off for that LOL 😂. Looked spot on though and a 8.5 for me which is a great score for a fast food chain.
