Stick Blender Hot Process from start to finish

  • We usually use the SBHP (stick blender/hot process) method to make our soap because it is what works for us.
You can use any recipe you would like, there's no secret ingredients that make this work.
Always be sure to wear safety equipment.
Please note that even though your soap will be fully saponified after the process, it will be somewhat soft and disintegrate quickly if you don't allow it to fully cure.
Our cure time is 4-6 weeks
    Notes about this batch:
16 pounds of oil, total approximate weight is around 25. Larger batches take more time to push through the saponification batches. On smaller batches we've reached the applesauce stage around the 5 minute mark. Batch size, power of your mixing method, oil temperature and liquid content all play a role in the time it takes to saponify.

Fantastic video. I've been soaping for 25+ years, and still learned a few things! You had a smoke detector beeping in the background though, which was driving me nuts! Every few minutes I'd pause the video to make sure it wasn't one of mine! But excellent video, excellent soap!

The way you poured out of that massive pot so cleanly was impressive, definitely showed how practiced you are at this process. I tensed up just knowing how I would've slopped it everywhere, but your soap went exactly where you wanted it to go despite the size of that pot. The soap came out beautifully, and this is a very clear video that stands up to the test of time here on RUclips.

Nice job.. I chuckled about the 'engineer' thought process. I too am afflicted and my wife also is often amused. Engineers got to be engineers. I have been using this exact process on much smaller batches (1-5lb) for years and it works great. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it..

Not many men doing soaping. I'm glad you make it like cooking. I try to tell many soapers that you have a recipe but if you add 3 drops more of water it isn't ruined. And if there is too much of something unless it seizes, you compensate. And you can always take the seized soap and make rebatch.

Thank you for sharing. Beautiful soap. Right after the holidays I'm back to making soap for me and mine. Goats milk and charcoal facial soap are my big sellers, and I sold what I was going to keep.

Great video; it's fantastic when a person's passion comes through! Loved watching your process, it's explained very well, fun - LOL a few times (still laughing at the "using other people's silverware" I can relate), and AWE the shout out to your wife was awesome. If even I don't try this process - I doubt my stick blender would survive it - it was pretty cool to see and I'd most likely watch it again just because. Thanks for sharing! New subscriber =)

Old habits die hard. Sometimes for very good reasons. I have a method. When I follow this method every time, the likelihood of me making a mistake decreases. Pouring from a different direction, seemed like a low risk maneuver. :)

Did you ever get a 9 volt battery for that smoke alarm or are you still ignoring it?

Wonderful tutorial! Thank you. You have removed so much of the mystery for me. I will try the HP method soon. I wondered if your batch was in a burner especially since you did lean on the pot consistently during instructions. Again thank you for sharing.

Awesome video. Never seen a hot process soap making video before this one. I normally watch a&n suds n such. She makes cold process and some times used the heat transfer method also.

Thanks so much for sharing! Not too many do this in a stock pot. I've been debating on getting that stick blender you are using. Are you in my FB group, Soap Making and Business Coaching? Would love to have you if you aren't.

Just a question regarding the milk addition......did you discount the lye water to start with? Love to know the answer as I'm very interested. The best video I've seen in years. Extremely inspirational and fantastic to see a bloke. Please don't stop sharing.

Excellent video. Really enjoyed watching. I was searching for adding liquid goat's milk to HP soap & found you. I'm predominantly a fluid hot process soaper & cook the soap on my range. Lovely soap. Xxx

i am somewhat new to making soap. I am so excited about trying this method. I have goats so of course I am wanting to make goat milk soap. I am wondering if in this method you used lye water instead of lye milk and if you had to discount the lye water to be able to add your milk at the end. I am assuming that the milk that you added at the end is the only milk in the soap because it didnt look like your mixture at the beginning was a lye milk mixture. Thank you so much for your help!!!
