    The Imperial City is absolutely beautiful! The Chinese captured many Vietnamese professionals such as architects, engineers, and designers whom worked on the Forbidden City. An Nguyen, the chief architect, was one of the most famous professionals captured who worked on the Forbidden City (this information was not something the Chinese wanted known, but the Brits uncovered this information after much research).

    There is a tip: Before you eat any kind of soup in Vietnam, you should taste little spoon first. If the soup is suitable for your taste, you dont need to put lime, chilly or seasoning more . You dont need to season it all the time, some restaurant they make the soup perfectly and you can enjoy right after they bring the soup for you!

    I and my best friend drove motobike from Da Nang to Hue city in 2019 under heavy rain. We went through a lot of scenery, from the great mountain of Hai Van to beautiful beaches and lovely rice fields and fishing villages. We wore raincoat while visiting Kinh Do Hue, that was crazy fun and we couldnt stop laughing. Although the weather was very bad and dangerous and we spent only 3 hours their, our the trip was very satisfied and it think it's one of the best trip that I had in my life. I'm planning to visit Hue again next months.

    I'm glad you were able to visit Hue and top notch thumbs up for spending time in the Citadel. It's often overlooked but that's Hue. It's a very low key city and its people are known for their quiet and gentle demeanor but tough as nail belief and principle. I had a chance to visit Hue 18 years ago and it has two absolutely drop dead gorgeous high schools on Le Loi street. I got to see an amazing sight where hundreds of high school female students came out of the school gate dressed in ao dai on a special day I think. Hundreds of them came out riding their bicycles with their ao dai fluttering in the wind while boys were in their school uniform.

However, your video is, hands down, the best travel vlog of the Imperial City I have seen. You two captured the age, majesty, and architecture of the place perfectly. It's a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.
    Side note: My fiancee is Vietnamese American. Bun thit nuong is never eaten with soy sauce. I am surprised that the restaurant had soy sauce. It's always eaten with nuoc mam pha -- a fish sauce mixture.

    Hue and the Imperial City were definitely one of the highlights of my Vietnam trip 27 years ago, I can't believe that I haven't gone back. Hopefully over the next 5 years I start to revisit the places I visited on that trip. I certainly didn't spend $16 to enter but they obviously need the money for restoration work. Thanks for trip down memory lane.

    Nice video capture of the citadel in Hue. Agree that it would take half a day to cover that place in details. It took us (with two little boys) a good 2-3 hours to see half of what you guys saw. As for the $8 entrance fee, let's put it into perspective that it costs €19.50 for Versailles Palace or €28.50 for both the Palace and the garden in Paris.

    You guys showed WAY more of the Imperial City than most vloggers as they just run in and out. It's so beautiful there! But it saddens me that so much of it was bombed into oblivion during the Vietnam war when more bombs were dropped there than all of WWII. I hope they are able to recreate the city, but it won't have that old ancient look to it that makes it special (all the moss/lichen, worn-in, etc.). I wonder if your ticket included the ride in the golf carts around the city? I have a feeling it does.

    • @mikeandashley

      Yea! We figured we only really had enough time to do that, so we’d do it as best as we could. It was such a fun place to walk around for us. We love exploring places like this.
      It is a shame that the Palace was bombed and destroyed, and it would be amazing if it still had the aged look, but I’m sure the new palace will be awe inspiring as well! ☺️ As always, thanks for watching! 🤗

    From 1802 to 1945, Vietnam was ruled by the Nguyen Dynasty, which had its capital in the city of Hue. The Nguyen Dynasty was the last monarchy in Vietnamese history. Guards of the Nguyen Dynasty stationed in the imperial city of Hue had about 40,000 people. The Guard force is again divided into three types. King Guards (the king’s subordinate who guarded the forbidden citadel), including 1 joint and 4 independent defenders. For a total of 143 years, the Nguyen Dynasty was a dynasty that marked many ups and downs in Vietnam history, especially the French invasion in the mid-19th century.

    I was hoping you'd try the peanut and salted coffee while in Hue as that's where they originated. As far as the food, it all looks great, but you could have added more sate (the chili sauce with lemongrass) and a bit of shrimp paste (if you can handle it). Never seen soy sauce added to bun thit nuong before, but you do need to stir it all up before eating so you can get an even distribution of the sauce. And when Ashley says bun bo Hue correctly, I was so impressed! Yes, it's "boo-oon baw hu-way" (roll it all into one syllable as Vietnamese consists of only one syllable words that you may go up and down like a rollercoaster). LOL

    I still can't get over how VN can provide a night life for people of all changes, locals and tourists, that is safe and fun and reasonable in terms of cost. Seems like nightlife here in the West is an adult thing with bar and dance spots, not for children, not to mention quite expensive.

    • @musicful7036

      You're comparing apples and oranges. 2 different countries with 2 different cultures and lifestyles. Yeah like children in Vietnam can drive scooters wildly on the streets with no adult supervision, no helmet no forms of safety protection ? Reckless and irresponsible parenting is very common in Vietnam. There's laws and regulations in the West where parents are held accountable for the safety of their children.

    • @20luzer52
      @20luzer52 11 месяцев назад +6

      @@musicful7036 You're right about adult being held accountable and act to protect children safety here in the West. I guess that's why there's increasing school shootings WITH NO CHANGE IN TREND. Increasing teenagers physically assaulting publics and their own teachers and conversely police physically abusing teen agers then lying about it as shot the teenager in self defense, WITH NO CHANGE IN TREND. I recall group assaults, gun shooting breaking out at city celebration here in the US, way to go, at a happy celebratory event and we have fight breaking out. I love how you describe it as "on the streets with no adult supervision" and focus on riding scooters while totally avoiding the fact that we're talking about children walking and playing in the streets at night safely, while we here in the States are deathly afraid of our children play in a suburban neighborhood out of fear of kidnapping or street violence. But hey, if you're happy drinking the kool aid, power to you.

      Please don't say that we borrow our writing from China because China did not even exist yet. The land was occupied by many different countries with their unique customs, languages, kings, queens, scholars, and etc.just like Vietnam. Too bad all of them, except Vietnam, got invaded and assimilated; thus, lost most of their identities.

    Good morning from SoCal,
    How are you two doing? It’s always great to watch your videos walking us through your visiting trip in Vietnam.
    So finally Ashley had bún bò Huế at its birth place. Good job Ashley!
    $8 plus for the admission, I think it’s a rip off! There got to be better way to generate revenue than taking advantage of the visitors. That’s why the majority of the foreign visitors don’t want to return. Truth hurts. Sorry my friends.
    Sorry that Mike got hurt because you forgot how tall you are. You remind me of my oldest son, the tallest in the family, around 6’, so I always ask him to grab things for me from upper cabinets. I always tell him that it’s a privilege to be the tallest in the family so don’t complain!
    You mentioned that Hà Nội would be your next destiny. Can’t wait to see what you got for us in that video.
    Thank you for sharing your videos with us. Good luck and be safe.

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yea! We tried it and it was amazing. So delicious.
      We also feel the $8/person is a bit high, but as long as it’s going towards the renovations, we can’t complain. ☺️
      I’m constantly knocking my head on stuff. I think it’s made it into a few videos before lol. And yea, the blessing and curse of being tall is you’re tall, but now you’re required to help those that are height challenged with basic tasks. My mom does the same! 😂

      @@mikeandashleyI found your channel while viewing RUclips videos about Da Lat and told my wife that Ashley reminded me of my former co-worker who left her automotive engineering job in Michigan to move to Wisconsin about 17 years ago. She has similar accent, laugh, and as pretty as Ashley. I visited the Imperial city during the summer of 2002. It was extremely hot and humid, especially at around 1 pm. I was able to see the Thai Hoa Palace. There wasn't much else to see at that time, so I was surprised to see the number of places you were able to see recently. Honestly, I didn't enjoy my time in Hue due to bad experiences, from food to scams and rip offs from taxi drivers and private drivers. The taxi driver dropped me off at a hotel on the wrong side of the river. There wasn't any night life (everything seemed to shut down after 8:30 pm) and there weren't many food places. I haven't been back to Vietnam for 19 years and seem to lose interest in coming back. I used to love the train ride from Saigon to Hue, but I don't think I can handle the train restroom now 🤣 Special thanks to you guys for great videos and for helping me find the urge to visit Vietnam again.
