I and my best friend drove motobike from Da Nang to Hue city in 2019 under heavy rain. We went through a lot of scenery, from the great mountain of Hai Van to beautiful beaches and lovely rice fields and fishing villages. We wore raincoat while visiting Kinh Do Hue, that was crazy fun and we couldnt stop laughing. Although the weather was very bad and dangerous and we spent only 3 hours their, our the trip was very satisfied and it think it's one of the best trip that I had in my life. I'm planning to visit Hue again next months.

I'm glad you were able to visit Hue and top notch thumbs up for spending time in the Citadel. It's often overlooked but that's Hue. It's a very low key city and its people are known for their quiet and gentle demeanor but tough as nail belief and principle. I had a chance to visit Hue 18 years ago and it has two absolutely drop dead gorgeous high schools on Le Loi street. I got to see an amazing sight where hundreds of high school female students came out of the school gate dressed in ao dai on a special day I think. Hundreds of them came out riding their bicycles with their ao dai fluttering in the wind while boys were in their school uniform.
My fiancee and I didn't get to go to the Imperial City of Hue when we visited Vietnam, but we have seen many videos of it. However, your video is, hands down, the best travel vlog of the Imperial City I have seen. You two captured the age, majesty, and architecture of the place perfectly. It's a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. Side note: My fiancee is Vietnamese American. Bun thit nuong is never eaten with soy sauce. I am surprised that the restaurant had soy sauce. It's always eaten with nuoc mam pha -- a fish sauce mixture.

Hue and the Imperial City were definitely one of the highlights of my Vietnam trip 27 years ago, I can't believe that I haven't gone back. Hopefully over the next 5 years I start to revisit the places I visited on that trip. I certainly didn't spend $16 to enter but they obviously need the money for restoration work. Thanks for trip down memory lane.
It’s such an amazing place! The $16 was unexpected, but in the big scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal, and if it goes to help the renovation, we can’t be mad about it. We hope you enjoy your trip! ☺️
Awesome video guys! This made me miss Vietnam so much! Out of all the places we've traveled it is where we want to go back to the most. Thanks for sharing your travels! ♥
You guys showed WAY more of the Imperial City than most vloggers as they just run in and out. It's so beautiful there! But it saddens me that so much of it was bombed into oblivion during the Vietnam war when more bombs were dropped there than all of WWII. I hope they are able to recreate the city, but it won't have that old ancient look to it that makes it special (all the moss/lichen, worn-in, etc.). I wonder if your ticket included the ride in the golf carts around the city? I have a feeling it does.
Yea! We figured we only really had enough time to do that, so we’d do it as best as we could. It was such a fun place to walk around for us. We love exploring places like this. It is a shame that the Palace was bombed and destroyed, and it would be amazing if it still had the aged look, but I’m sure the new palace will be awe inspiring as well! ☺️ As always, thanks for watching! 🤗
Dont forget to discover Bach Ma national park in Huế when you comeback. Bach Ma is a stunning mount in the whole central of Vietnam. Do Quyen waterfall in Bach Ma national park is a must see.
The gardens were spectacular! Is this location lightly touristed? I never saw another person! Beautiful video - so well done and professionally! You two are such a handsome, youthful couple; I’m very much enjoying your videos!
There were tourists for sure, not many in the garden, but it seemed most of them were interested in taking photos at the main spots. We were lucky to have so many places by ourselves! Also, some careful video planning led to some lucky shots. ☺️🤗 Thanks for watching!
Nice video capture of the citadel in Hue. Agree that it would take half a day to cover that place in details. It took us (with two little boys) a good 2-3 hours to see half of what you guys saw. As for the $8 entrance fee, let's put it into perspective that it costs €19.50 for Versailles Palace or €28.50 for both the Palace and the garden in Paris.
Thanks so much! ☺️ And that is a good way to think about it. The price wasn’t too much by any means, but for our typical daily budget, it’s more than we’d normally spend. However, we feel it was totally worth it to see such an amazing place. We’ve certainly spent more money and gotten less value before. Thanks so much for watching. 🤗
Loving that speed walk Ashley! And we are gutted that we missed this place! We spent a week in Hue playing music in bars and restaurants and then on our last day went to visit the imperial city… but it was closed! 😅 We will for sure return in the future! Another great vlog guys! ✨
Haha, thanks! 😂 That’s a bummer you missed the Imperial City. We wish we would have gotten to see more of Hue, but we were so short on time. There are definitely reasons to go back for all of us, it sounds like. Vietnam is such an amazing country. 🥰
From 1802 to 1945, Vietnam was ruled by the Nguyen Dynasty, which had its capital in the city of Hue. The Nguyen Dynasty was the last monarchy in Vietnamese history. Guards of the Nguyen Dynasty stationed in the imperial city of Hue had about 40,000 people. The Guard force is again divided into three types. King Guards (the king’s subordinate who guarded the forbidden citadel), including 1 joint and 4 independent defenders. For a total of 143 years, the Nguyen Dynasty was a dynasty that marked many ups and downs in Vietnam history, especially the French invasion in the mid-19th century.
Thank you so much for the history lesson! There is so much about Vietnam we still have to learn. We wish to return and spend much more time here getting immersed in the culture and history. ☺️
Thai Hoa Palace is the most important work in Hue Citadel and it is fortunately left. That place is located the throne of the emperor of Vietnam, I have seen it about 10 years ago. Currently being restored, not rebuilt. It is expected to be completed by 2025 because of its high complexity. very nostalgic and dignified
That makes sense! It looks like it would be an incredible sight to behold. Hopefully we’ll have the privilege of returning some day when it’s finished to see it in all of its glory!

I love your videos of my motherland, that I don't remembered as I left when I was little. You two are the cutest couple. Enjoy your travels. XO from TEXAS.
I was hoping you'd try the peanut and salted coffee while in Hue as that's where they originated. As far as the food, it all looks great, but you could have added more sate (the chili sauce with lemongrass) and a bit of shrimp paste (if you can handle it). Never seen soy sauce added to bun thit nuong before, but you do need to stir it all up before eating so you can get an even distribution of the sauce. And when Ashley says bun bo Hue correctly, I was so impressed! Yes, it's "boo-oon baw hu-way" (roll it all into one syllable as Vietnamese consists of only one syllable words that you may go up and down like a rollercoaster). LOL
We didn’t know about peanut and salted coffee! 😱 We would have loved to try those! I could be wrong, but I thought the soy sauce came with it, but it may have come with one of the other things. 😬🤷♂️ Either way, it was delicious! 😋 And we’re trying to get the pronunciation of the words down, I feel like sometimes we nail it and others we fail, but we’ll keep trying! 😅😂
I was born in Hue city and lived the first 17 years of my life in the citadel. My old house was about 1mile North East of the imperial city. I used to visit the imperial city every chance I get because the entrance was free of charge during special holidays. And it was really hard to find a restroom in there, lol
Welcome to Vietnam guys! Are any plans to go to north Vietnam (Like Hà Giang, Sapa, Mai Châu or Tà Xùa..) You guys should check the north and northwest Vietnam, I highly recommend it
We head to the north, but won’t make it to those places on this trip. BUT, we are planning another excursion to Vietnam to explore more of the places we didn’t get to see soon! ☺️
Hue looks super nice! We love popping into random gardens in our travel as well. You'll always find something unexpected and beautiful. These places you visit looked so serene and "zen" as you said. Also, I want all that food. 😍

I still can't get over how VN can provide a night life for people of all changes, locals and tourists, that is safe and fun and reasonable in terms of cost. Seems like nightlife here in the West is an adult thing with bar and dance spots, not for children, not to mention quite expensive.
You're comparing apples and oranges. 2 different countries with 2 different cultures and lifestyles. Yeah like children in Vietnam can drive scooters wildly on the streets with no adult supervision, no helmet no forms of safety protection ? Reckless and irresponsible parenting is very common in Vietnam. There's laws and regulations in the West where parents are held accountable for the safety of their children.
@@musicful7036 You're right about adult being held accountable and act to protect children safety here in the West. I guess that's why there's increasing school shootings WITH NO CHANGE IN TREND. Increasing teenagers physically assaulting publics and their own teachers and conversely police physically abusing teen agers then lying about it as shot the teenager in self defense, WITH NO CHANGE IN TREND. I recall group assaults, gun shooting breaking out at city celebration here in the US, way to go, at a happy celebratory event and we have fight breaking out. I love how you describe it as "on the streets with no adult supervision" and focus on riding scooters while totally avoiding the fact that we're talking about children walking and playing in the streets at night safely, while we here in the States are deathly afraid of our children play in a suburban neighborhood out of fear of kidnapping or street violence. But hey, if you're happy drinking the kool aid, power to you.

2:00 I would take a little guess and say that Ashley enjoyed the Bun Bo "Hue" better here, because this dish is native to "Hue", Vietnam 😂 I'm really impressed that she's building the noodle soup properly with all the right veggies, even squirting in the lime to round it out perfectly.
Yes! She definitely preferred the one here. She wasn’t thrilled about the first time we had it in Da Lat. Ashley is ALL about “the perfect bite.” 😂 Always building out the best bites on her spoon or even sandwiches.

I noticed your shirt. Do they still have tubing in Vang Vien? I went tubing there in 2012 right after they closed the crazy party. I am actually headed in that direction in February. yay!
We didn't go tubing, but it is back on as far as we know. They halted it after a bunch of people died and have since changed the number of bars that are allowed to operate, but our friends did it just a few months ago and had a great time. 🙂
We stayed in this area and really enjoyed it. Nice eateries, things to do and proximity to attractions. maps.app.goo.gl/m5shStzjxSjNS1jo8?g_st=ic There are a number of good hotels and guesthouses that are quite affordable as well.
In the past, Vietnam was a colony of China for 1000 years, so it is not surprising that the culture and architecture are very similar to China, even the writing in the past was borrowed from China, until the last century. The new 20 uses the current latin script. But I'm impressed with your chopstick skills, just like an Asian 😅
Please don't say that we borrow our writing from China because China did not even exist yet. The land was occupied by many different countries with their unique customs, languages, kings, queens, scholars, and etc.just like Vietnam. Too bad all of them, except Vietnam, got invaded and assimilated; thus, lost most of their identities.

Good morning from SoCal, How are you two doing? It’s always great to watch your videos walking us through your visiting trip in Vietnam. So finally Ashley had bún bò Huế at its birth place. Good job Ashley! $8 plus for the admission, I think it’s a rip off! There got to be better way to generate revenue than taking advantage of the visitors. That’s why the majority of the foreign visitors don’t want to return. Truth hurts. Sorry my friends. Sorry that Mike got hurt because you forgot how tall you are. You remind me of my oldest son, the tallest in the family, around 6’, so I always ask him to grab things for me from upper cabinets. I always tell him that it’s a privilege to be the tallest in the family so don’t complain! You mentioned that Hà Nội would be your next destiny. Can’t wait to see what you got for us in that video. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. Good luck and be safe.
Yea! We tried it and it was amazing. So delicious. We also feel the $8/person is a bit high, but as long as it’s going towards the renovations, we can’t complain. ☺️ I’m constantly knocking my head on stuff. I think it’s made it into a few videos before lol. And yea, the blessing and curse of being tall is you’re tall, but now you’re required to help those that are height challenged with basic tasks. My mom does the same! 😂
It was really good. I don’t know about a trap, as the prices were reasonable, but it is attached to a guesthouse. Our friends who’ve been to Vietnam a ton recommended it, so we had to check it out.

I was able to see the Thai Hoa Palace. There wasn't much else to see at that time, so I was surprised to see the number of places you were able to see recently. Honestly, I didn't enjoy my time in Hue due to bad experiences, from food to scams and rip offs from taxi drivers and private drivers. The taxi driver dropped me off at a hotel on the wrong side of the river. There wasn't any night life (everything seemed to shut down after 8:30 pm) and there weren't many food places. That’s a bummer you missed the Imperial City. We wish we would have gotten to see more of Hue, but we were so short on time. There are definitely reasons to go back for all of us, it sounds like. Vietnam is such an amazing country. 🥰
I really am enjoying your vids not over talking like many bloggers out there
Thanks! We talk sometimes for sure, but we really prefer to show our experiences more than talk about them. ☺️ Thanks for watching!
I like your complicity! You seem to like the same way of travelling. Thanks for sharing your adventures in Vietnam.
Thank you! 🤗 We’re happy you enjoyed the video.
So amazing place Hue 😊
It's really is! We wish we had longer.
I went to Maison Trang, thank you a thousand times. Best meal I have had in Vietnam, this is my 6th city. GREAT recommendation 👍 👌 👏
That’s amazing! 🤗 We’re so happy you enjoyed it! We also loved it. We hope you have a great trip! 🙌
What to do in Hue? Eat eat eat haha 🇻🇳
Yassss! 🙌😋🥢
Love it! This where my dad was born! Ashley and Mike you guys are perfect for each other!!!❤
Aw, thanks Patrick! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

We’re happy we can show you your home on our travels. It means so much to us that you enjoy our videos! 🥰 Thank yo so much for watching! 🤗
*_Hello Mike & Ashley_* !
Hello! 👋🥰
Awesome 👏
Thank you! 🤗
Great vlog. Another great place I haven’t seen before. I had a friend who ran a PT boat, up and down the Perfume River, during the Vietnam War.
Thanks for watching! ☺️
ya'll should have went to "DAm chuon" restaurant. it's a restaurant in the middle of a lagoon and you take a free ferry to ge there
That sounds amazing! We’ll have to add it to the list for our next adventure in Hue!
You are a beautiful couple, I hope you will have good memories in Vietnam
Thanks so much! Vietnam is in the top of our favorite countries. 🥰
6:36 - Most likely, jasmine tea.
Nice! Whatever it was, it sure was delicious and light! Thanks for watching! 🤗
Your chopsticks skills are very good, but Ashley is the winner for sure
Aw, thanks so much! 🤗 We feel so special now. I’ll have to work on my skills so I can win the next round. 🙏
Wonderful place
It really is! 😊
And we’re trying to get the pronunciation of the words down, I feel like sometimes we nail it and others we fail, but we’ll keep trying! 😅😂
Thanks for sharing 🙏👍that’s very nice 👍 place ❤️🫶❤️❤️❤️🫶❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for watching! Hue is an awesome city. We would love to return to explore more. ♥️
I was born in Hue city and lived the first 17 years of my life in the citadel. My old house was about 1mile North East of the imperial city. I used to visit the imperial city every chance I get because the entrance was free of charge during special holidays. And it was really hard to find a restroom in there, lol
That’s amazing! Hue is such a lovely city. The bathrooms were a bit spread out 😅😂
Welcome to Vietnam guys!
omg where are the fishsauce omgggggggggggg

Hue looks super nice! We love popping into random gardens in our travel as well. You'll always find something unexpected and beautiful. These places you visit looked so serene and "zen" as you said.
Also, I want all that food. 😍

I was told that theater is the oldest performing theater in Vietnam. Besides a few enhancements and renovations over the years, most of the structures have been kept original
Wow! That’s amazing. We really wish we could have seen the performance.

It is pretty awesome seeing whole families out to enjoy themselves is something we’ve really loved about Vietnam.
👏👏👏

☺️☺️☺️
2:00 I would take a little guess and say that Ashley enjoyed the Bun Bo "Hue" better here, because this dish is native to "Hue", Vietnam 😂 I'm really impressed that she's building the noodle soup properly with all the right veggies, even squirting in the lime to round it out perfectly.
Yes! She definitely preferred the one here. She wasn’t thrilled about the first time we had it in Da Lat. Ashley is ALL about “the perfect bite.” 😂 Always building out the best bites on her spoon or even sandwiches.
@@mikeandashley I'm Vietnamese American and I still have to ask parents and elders how to eat things the proper aka traditional Vietnamese way, you're doing as good or better than I could, have been really enjoying watching your adventures the last few days. I'm an extremely picky eater and combined with growing up in the US, i would have what most would consider an undeveloped or uncultured food palate, watching you both is giving me a spark of curiosity that I haven't felt before and giving me a little courage--"wow if these two adventurers can do it, i can probably do it too!" I noticed your shirt. Do they still have tubing in Vang Vien? I went tubing there in 2012 right after they closed the crazy party. I am actually headed in that direction in February. yay!

There are a number of good hotels and guesthouses that are quite affordable as well.
Haha, we’ve had months to practice with chopsticks! We’re not perfect, but we’re definitely improving! 🥢

Good morning from SoCal,
How are you two doing?
I’m constantly knocking my head on stuff. I think it’s made it into a few videos before lol. And yea, the blessing and curse of being tall is you’re tall, but now you’re required to help those that are height challenged with basic tasks. My mom does the same! 😂
You know what, That mask look like Deadpool and Mike look like Ryan Reynolds lol.
🤣🤣🤣
Did you finally find the washroom in the Forbidden City ?
Haha, I did. Thank you! 😅
Duuuuuummmmmaaaaaa that BBH looked amazing! That restaurant must have been a tourist trap since I only saw white folk.
It was really good. I don’t know about a trap, as the prices were reasonable, but it is attached to a guesthouse. Our friends who’ve been to Vietnam a ton recommended it, so we had to check it out.
Bà nội tôi là công chúa của hoàng gia, bà là người Huế. Còn tôi được sinh ra tại Nha Trang. Thật tuyệt vời khi bạn đã làm 2 video rất tuyệt về 2 địa danh này. ❤❤❤

Are you traveling right now in Vietnam?
Our vlogs are a bit behind, and sadly, we’ve already left. We're making plans to return soon, though! 🥰
@@mikeandashley thanks for your answer
Of course! ☺️
Man, they didn't give you enough meat on the bun bo hue. Did you order a really basic one?
We just ordered a grilled pork version. It wasn’t all the meats like it can be.
You should never eat or drink ice in vietnam or you will get hepatitis it's from the tap and not cleaned,so a few times should be okay like 5 or 6 times if you forget , but after 9 times you shouldn't ever drink it even if it's in coffees. That's what the local vietnamese won't tell you.
Oh no! That doesn't sound good. Thankfully, none of that for us!
Thanks to the Nguyen dynasty now majority of Vietnamese have last name Nguyen lol

Do chiến tranh nên bị tàn phá 1 phần
That makes sense. 😕 We found that out as we were editing, but not while we were there unfortunately.
I hate the Nguyễn Dynasty if the Tay Son dynasty still exists I think Vietnam could have more land from China which they took alot from Vietnam and Vietnam could develop even better than Japan

@@mikeandashleyI found your channel while viewing RUclips videos about Da Lat and told my wife that Ashley reminded me of my former co-worker who left her automotive engineering job in Michigan to move to Wisconsin about 17 years ago. She has similar accent, laugh, and as pretty as Ashley. I visited the Imperial city during the summer of 2002. It was extremely hot and humid, especially at around 1 pm. I haven't been back to Vietnam for 19 years and seem to lose interest in coming back. I used to love the train ride from Saigon to Hue, but I don't think I can handle the train restroom now 🤣 Special thanks to you guys for great videos and for helping me find the urge to visit Vietnam again.
