Hilarious how Starship Troopers props ended up in virtually every sci-fi movie of this era.
The guards were wearing Rico’s helmet
I thought the same thing lol
Plus the footage of a wrecked city from Starship Troopers appeared at 0:18.
Looks satellite dish at 5:25 is reused from Under Siege 2. lol
Not only movies but also tv shows, like Power Rangers.
This recap missed the most touching and poignant line in the film. When the woman asks Cale (Mekhi Phifer) whether or not he believed that he knew the REAL Spencer Olham, Cale, having seen the man's kindness and humanity answers "I like to THINK I did". This means that whatever Olham was in his human form, the replicant acted like the real Olham, which was a man that Cale could relate to and admire.
@ofcourse3026 He was the young black man and smuggler who was trying to get medicines to poor people, who ended up helping Olham. He had the last scene in the movie and this quote is from the last scene of the film when Cale and some other smuggler woman are watching the News feed about the explosion and fire that killed most of the main characters of the movie.
@ofcourse3026 06:08
didn't he saay if they shoot the cyborg they will explode? so how they shooted his wife and it didn't trigger the bomb
Soooooooo they couldn’t just X-ray his chest to see if there was bomb in there ? Or some other type of scan ? Instead of cutting open a hole in his chest?
They mention that the tech is unable to be scanned.
@@Iamthelolrus Well fuck, that explains it. Lazy writing of a dumb script.
There was a six months wait list.
They needed the movie to happen.
They had a socialized healthcare system so as @Mrelliptific mentioned, the wait time was 6 months for x-ray scans.
Gotta love how the Chancellor's secret meeting is announced to the entire world on TV beforehand...
The movie version is more optimistic, because in the original book he finds his own remains, which are definitely human and his last words are, but if he is Spencer who am... The explosion of earth was so bright that it could be even seen on Alpha Centauri.
Kinda pointless to send an android if they're capable of blowing up Earth in the first place. Especially when humans are hiding behind bubbles, so the rest of Earth is literally undefended and can easily be nuked from those parts.
SO, even though they have all the reason to believe he s fake, they take their time to strap him to a chair, wait for him to wake up and show him footage that confirm their theories and then untie to try to tie him again to another spot and that on top of knowing the freaking bomb he potencially had inside his heart can be trigger by a word that he could have said after he woke up? And keep in mind, they clearly never intended to let him go considering how what they did was the equivaly of "haha you re fake and u gonna die, now cry"
Yeah they were basically begging for him to escape at this point.
seems logical enough. sounds like the government we have now ;)
@@carbide1968 Fair enough.
As a french person, I can only stand here and watch how gouvernment are just doing thing that pretty much beg the populace to go on riot...constantly....
Exactly. Like they know it has all the persons memories and doesn't even know it's a fake so it's not like they were going toneven try to get any useful information so why do this? Could easily have just killed him then removed his heart since they were going to kill him anyways. Absolutely no reason to wake him up and cut out his heart while he watched. Hell, we can do heart transplants now so they could easily have removed it without killing him, cut it open to see if it had a bomb, and gave him a new heart. If he was a fake they removed the threat and can now safely question him and if he was real they wouldn't have killed him.
But if they keep him tied, the movie won't happen!!! 😃
Hope you don't allow little details to spoil the big point of the movie!
the soldiers have the same uniforms and helmets from Starship Troopers
budget recycling issues hahahaha
mabey the aliens are bugs
I was just going to make a smart-ass comment. Good work!
could be a prequel since starship troopers take place somewhere around 3000 AD and humanity has gone full militarisation.
And Cale is wearing an imperial officer coat xd from SW xd
This is one of my favorite SciFi movies of all time. Gary Sinise absolutely rocked his performance. 👍
The double twist. I kinds wish I had not watched this, because I think I would have loved the movie.
Me too! I search for sci-fi movies like this.
You’ll still enjoy the movie
@@SteveBueche1027 Is Fran a dude ?
Thank u. You saved me. I stopped the video after 10sec and reading your comment. You're my hero ✌️
It's a great movie!
I think the ending was pretty clever. If I had been watching it I wouldn't have put it together that she was who they were after all along. Seems kinda convoluted to approach the film the way they did by putting him through all that to get to her. They should've just subdued her at home away from the hospital and then did the thing.
The ending, yes...I enjoyed that. BOTH were plants. That's a nice twist. One they knew about and wanted and one they pretended to want but didn't realize that he was one too the entire time. Also his trigger method was pretty clever as well, despite the fact that it doesn't make sense to have a trigger "feeling" in that sense.
Exactly. The movie was enjoyable, but not very smart. If they thought she was the cyborg, they should have directly arrested her. There was no need for the subterfuge. And if they suspected that she was a cyborg based on being abducted during the fire in the woods, why didn't they think both of them could be cyborgs when they were together at the time of the abduction? And why would the aliens create cyborg assassins whose trigger for the bomb was realizing they were a cyborg? Wouldn't it be better to have it go off when in proximity to a particuar target? There's a whole lotta stupid in this film.
@@jonathonpolk3592
I think the movie actually have an explanation to it, if you pay attention they are not exclusive targets, they are part of an alien war infiltration schem, part of a high plan, his trigger was to learn he was an bot, an enemy weapon, since he is an scientist in the weapon research area, her trigger could be letting him die\learning he was dead, since she is a medic, both of them could end up in the VIP room to trigger themselfes.
One of the reasons why they couldnt get her first was because of the comotion and trouble caused by him, other reason that corroborates with the low efficiency countering the bot infiltration schem, could be because of how secret the counter bot program is and how they just found out about that "3 days ago", so only the special "special" agents could respond to it, with an untrained crew\leader, so the detective decided to pursue one at the time, starting a case with the ones they judged more dangerous, since they created this whole narrative and squedule about Spencer and his special meeting, that made him a bigger treat compared to others, also trojan horse is a goddam of a tactic, imagine a list of them.
Theres also an white lie in the end, they knew all along that both were bots, the reason they lied to Spencer was to distract and prevent him from doing what he was doing with that alien ship, because they dont know what the triggers actually are, they bet the trigger based on who is turned into a bot, they could explode just by touching something in that ship, so doing nothing is the best answer, in their eyes he was an alien doing alien things, in an alien ship, fooled that he was still an human, so they abused it once he got choked. The agent only changed up the history once Spencer found out his wife was a bot too, abusing the information he was just learned to make him calm down and surrender, through trust.
The aliens in this movie could plant a giga bomb inside a bot heart, they are not stupid, i assume they planned all this thing, the plan "leaking" was the actual trojan trigger, after that, all human responses were remotely predictable against the bots, 5-6 days after the alien plan leaks, shit blow up, they predicted even the detective torturing the bots to reveal themselfes, what makes the movie long is actually Spencer humanity and insanity, that makes him question clear evidence that he is a bot, and doubt reality with faith, things i like to assume as not predicted by the aliens, if spencer got convinced he was a bot in that torture table, the movie would end fast, and as aliens predicted, because bots are no longer considered humans by their own, but enemies. In the end the we and the agent just learns how far he is behind his enemy tactics, and that he got played into being a double agent in benefit of the aliens, aliens learned to use the head of human defence as an crucial step to destroy their own kind.
@@sic111 After the hospital scan, the main agent knew with definite evidence, that Spencer was a planted robot with a bomb inside his body. Whether there was prior knowledge of his wife, is unknown.
The greater plan for humans must have been to move the married couple away from populated areas, which would defeat the aliens' big plan, though _they_ did get some solace in the knowledge, that the entire ruse managed to decimate the robot-detecting operation. - This explains, why the agents are inadequate or inexperienced, in that similar explosions have happened before, and there's a manpower problem.
The film is clever, in that Spencer's detonation trigger was actual definite knowledge of being a robot. On second viewing, we see how close he is to learning of his botness and his body detonating, but the aliens did not account for Spencer's humanity even as a bot.
There may be differing accounts as to what other things may have triggered Spencer and his bot "wife". It could be, that both the "husband" and "wife" had to be in close proximity, and Spencer's earlier refusal to acknowledge his botness must have been due to the absence of his "wife".
We must assume very sophisticated programming: Spencer's AI mind learns, that he's about to be exposed, but he cannot yet trigger his internal explosive unless and until he's relatively close to his "wife", which "subconsciously" causes him to escape and seek his wife in order to prevent the bomb from being safely removed from either unit for reverse engineering, and to complete the mission to minimise exposure.
The movie shows a setting, where humans are able to make a stand, but are always one or two steps behind.
@@jonathonpolk3592and why do the aliens leave the real bodies in 1 alien spaceship? Why don't they just burn them? This movie has a lot of issues 🤷♂️
Having seen the movie Total Recall I kinda expected a similar plot that the only reason Spencer escaped was because he was allowed to (but made it look like he was in fact in danger and escaped out of his own volition) . They were hoping he will lead them to a bigger fish. This ending however has a bit of twist where he did lead them to the actual target but he also was the target and as a result of knowing that he was in fact a cybrog was another program running to destroy everything around him if the primary program of killing the chancellor was thwarted (or the chancellor was never the actual target but rather Major Hathaway of Earth Security was and that interception of the message by the enemy aliens was a deception in order to orchestrate the entire thing)
Yet another case of unfairly underrated movie.
I've seen it several years ago and it aged very well.
Loved it then.
Loved your recap now.
Thank you guys.
Keep up the good work

So like every CSI and Detective from a US show is just thrown into this movie, BRILLIANT
Lol I thought the same
This an amazing short story by Phillip K. Dick. I remember reading it and being awe struck by its cleverness and the implications around identity.
How is called?
@@Carcosahead It is called Imposter. Written in 1953. Phillip K Dick wrote many many short stories, if you google Phillip K Dick and Short stories you can get a list of them. I recommend ALL of them. :)
This has to be in the same universe as Starship Troopers XD
I'll bet this is why the Federation came about and why the had a human first everything else has to be killed mind set.
Helmets, right :)? I noticed that too.
remember watching part of that movie as a kid, i had some parts of the plot in my head but never found that movie since then. guess who is gonna see that movie tonight some 20 years later. thanks MR
I think if you have the technology to build an alien that you can send to an alien world and it can fool not only the aliens, but their technology as well, then your technology has to be far superior and therefore you actually defeated them earlier on and never needed the alien constructs.
Tbh, the whole troupe of alien invasion is dumb anyway. They have the ability to travel the stars, but not the technology to create a devastating plague?
Why not make a pathogen as contagious and stays hidden for as long as it does like Covid, as deadly as deadly as Ebola, & Small pox, but also burns/destroys your immune system like HIV/AIDS for what few if any survives that remain.
You keep infrastructure intact and remove any local population/resistance.
Technology growth is not linear. It can branch into fields where one branch is focused and becomes stronger than another. Even on Earth. Germany, Italy and Japan are known for automobile technology, US for arms and ammunition.
if you have any interstellar capability, than you should not have any difficulty dealing with any non interstellar civilization. not fighting 20th century humans with 21st century tech, but fighting cavemen with 21st century tech.
@@thorin1045 You are right, but it's much harder to create enjoyable movie with realistic alien warfare, because aliens will quicly wipe out humans. same reason why in Top Gun Maverick they show dogfight between jets, while in real world that never happens because they engage in combat at much greater distance, you don't need to fly so close to launch missile.
True, i mean all the aliens really need to do is either to drop big rocks (from the asteroid belt for example) on earth or use massdrivers from space to hit pretty much any location on earth from anywhere in the solar system. You cant really win an interstellar war, if you try to defend static postions, as once they are scouted, they can be hit from pretty much anywhere. @@thorin1045
This was a real good movie. I would advise anyone reading the comments first to go watch the movie before watching this. It's called Impostor and it came out in 2001.
Whats the movie called
@@noflockin7574 I should have included that since i said to watch the movie before the recap. It's called Impostor. It came out in 2001. ill edit my first post.
Thank you! I have been looking for the title!
I love movies where the guy you are rooting for turns out to be the bad guy.
Why are people so inattentive?
The police wanted him to escape, because they thought he was real.
They wanted his wife, but they couldn't just capture her, because the bomb is so devastating and she worked at a huge hospital.
It's difficult to say what exactly was their plan all along, but if you watch carefully, everything makes sense.
²
Their plan was to kill a couple police officers in an empty forest? Doesn’t seem very impactful
Yeah, no
That makes no sense, since her bomb trigger was the chancellor...
they used the star ship trooper helmet props!
I feel like not only the helmet, but also whole movie sets.
More than the helmets, it's the whole Mobile Infantry uniform and armour. I could have sworn there was also a short clip, 2 seconds long, they ripped from the movie, with paramedics carrying a stretcher through a destroyed city.
Nice little touch that "the place they first met" turns out to be the place where the ship landed and killed the real ones
Such an underrated film. I remember being very impressed by it when it went in theaters.
If the aliens arrived in 2001 when the main character was only a boy who wanted to explore space, how come in 2079 when the man should be 80+ years old, he only looks 30
Aliens arrived in 2045 he messed up script
The movie came out in 2001.

Great recap as always, tho I cannot unsee the re-use of Starship troopers helmets...
9:43 Not many people know this but this scene wasn't actually in the script and was improvised, Gary Sinise is just such a good actor that when he saw himself pretending to be a robot he had a real existential crisis and begun to lose his grip on reality.
A good movie, and Vincent D'Onofrio always makes a great psycho type character.

Damn they had all those starship troopers gear for this movie
Strange, how did this film managed to stay below my radar until now, and I think for myself as for a sci-fi fantastic..?!?
By the way, don't the military helmets remind y'all of a certain "starship troopers" classic?🤫
Looks like they filmed this right after finishing Starship Troopers lol
@@gerryw173ify this was made 4 years later though, the real reason is this movie is really Low Budget and these Suit have been in A LOT of B Movies, so yeah they probably made a huge amount of them for Starship Troopers and sold them over the year for cheap.
How is this movie not on any greatest sci fi lists !?
From the recap it seems great and it almost perfectly matches the kind of stories I like ( being more thriller and psychological then sci fi, but still sci fi ! )
I would have watched this movie if it showed up on lists that’s for sure !
Ah yes one of the movies or tv series using starship troopers props 😂
nice to see monk got better after the war
Recognised a few faces in this that were also in Star Trek and Stargate
Thank you for the recap! 😁
Everyone has some sim code in them, if theyre able to replicate things so perfectly that they even have the sim codes, theyre so advanced, and its such a convoluted chain of events rather than just uing simple solutions like flooding critical places with bomb people. Genius level intelligence literally incapable of simple thinking. What are they, Asgard?
nah they just ripped the sim code off the corpses and put them into the cyborgs
Simple solutions -> don't use weapons at all, just create a virus. Humans can do it now, so superior aliens can do it aswell 🤷♂️
No we can see how aliens are able to easily defeat humanity.
Looks cool 😎 I just have a question…How did they have time to build a dome over the cities if the aliens kept attacking them?
The plot writer wrote it in 😮😮😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
Obviously use the Armour while constructing the dome.
Plot Armour
because the dome is an energy shield, they just need to build that shit around the city
"Aliens bomb planet for 45 years."
The Imperium of man: "Those are rookie numbers!"

he just wanted to be a real human bean
Being lol
and a Real Hero bc all he wanted was World Peace in his time
Sad to note that they use lot of the gear plus a scene from the 1997 starship troopers movie
This is weird. How is it that a movie made 20 years ago is better than sci fi from a year ago?
all the writers now are just crap
Truer words have never been spoken
Ah, another of those "based on an old short story that no one remembers".
If he has a government installed sim code, how is he a cyborg plant?
The aliens killed the real guy, they just had to steal the chip.
Yes, that's a plot hole big as the whole movie. There is no way that the cyborg would remove the chip and than install it on himself. The only explanation at the time I could make up, was that his wife (a doctor), would have done the procedure. But than, that might have been messy in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes we just need to suspend disbelief or try to make sense ourself.
If the cyborgs can perfectly download memories and make things like bombs. Pretty sure copying a sim code implant is child's play to the aliens.
Man what a twist!
That was a cool plot twist at the end..
I think what I enjoyed most about this film was the shower. That combined with a tankless water heater would be amazing.
9:12 Are those the same helmets from Starship Troopers?
Every video has to be the best movie ever
Pyramids would be immune to nuclear air blast the white exterior would reflect heat energy while the shape would be uniquely designed to deflect the blast energy.
Nice, CSI on steroids...!!!
Lieutenant Dan finally met his destiny
🤣🤣🤣🤣
What a sad ending
i like the re-used starship troopers helmets
Realy good flick. One of better alien movies.
The movie title is Imposter (2001)
The helmets the guards are wearing are looking like the once from starship troopers
If the trigger is the cyborg learning that it is fake then shouldn't the bomb explode as soon as the wife knew she was a cyborg after she witnessed the real wife??
Good point but I believe that the cyborg has to accept the fact that he was a cyborg in order for his program to start running and trigger the self destruct sequence or something to that nature (Earth security had limited knowledge of the programming and thought the cyborg was just clever when in actuality he was more of an identical clone pawn of the original human filled with same memories and emotions until it was not) . When the wife-clone saw her dead body and the security forces were surrounding her, she seemed to be in a state of denial/panic at that point which also matches with the first cyborg that was cut open in the lab that didn't believe he was a cyborg and he died still believing he was human (therefore not triggering the bomb).
All movies inspired by Philip K. Dick novels just great !!!
A lot of Starship Troopers action going on here!
him taking out the tracker seems kinda pointless with how easy he is to find XD
bruh that ending is brutal.
One thing I still dont understand is Hathaways position (except from being a Commander) and why he is constantly in front of his soldiers instead of behind in that situation
Now that’s good writing.
A good movie with interesting twist.
I remember greatly enjoying this movie
didnt know the csi detective became a cyborg rocket scientist thats pretty cool
Well I guess flying cars don't have 3d thermal imaging in 2079 😆
When i remember the funny astronaut killing eachother
So domed cities and advanced tech are a thing, but apparently x-rays, MRI scans etc. aren't? Fuck this movie.
why is this man spencer in every fucking space movie
That was interesting but wanted to see some conclusion with the aliens.
The movie tried to convey to us that, despite how anyone thinks about you, you are what you believe in.
The whole alien attack is just theme and the bomb is just a way to end the movie.
But still, pretty pissed that someone missed the briefing and left a massive consequence.
Wow. That's an interesting cast. 😮
There's an abridged version of this movie is actually closer to the PKD short story.
Damn so this is what happened to Earth during the war on bugs huh?
i like the idea that this is the same universe as starship troopers as got the same army uniforms lol
Great cast
Wait, I want to watch this movie right now!
"Secret meeting" must mean something different in the future.
0:17 that scene is from Starship Troopers Buenos Aires after the bug meteor, is that scene in this movie for real??
Why don't they ever put it I wonder
It's stock footage. LoL, the whole beginning is free use stock footage. Watch enough budget B movies and you'll recognize it. This wasn't a block buster movie. It was a budget movie. Still a great movie in my opinion.
Very nice love USA from Ahiyapur Muzaffarpur Bihar India
CT scan could have nerfed THE ENTIRE FKING STORY.
That movie title looks sus…
Good Show! 👍
How come the detective didn't see he still had the bomb in his heart from the scan wth?
I like the movie's plot a lot, but that last twist was unnecessary. I don't mind main character dying, or a sad ending, but don't make it like it was all for nothing just to shock people. I don't know behind the scenes, but I can tell if something was changed at the last minute.
Man they really recycled those starship trooper helmets in alot of movies
What were the aliens' plans in this situation? This seems overly convoluted for no reason whatsoever.
