I met Greg about 30 yrs ago in mount pleasant sc. I saw him at a gas station. Asked for his autograph. He didn’t want the attention but had us follow him and pulled over the side of a road. He gave me his autograph and was very nice to me and my family. I was about 8 then. To this day it’s my only autograph. Just wanted to say thank you Greg. As a kid it meant the world!

"My beautiful wife that I'm still married to"
I don't know why I liked this so much... What a nice guy.
Still being married to the same wife for more than a few years is a rare thing now.
I was married to the same beautiful wife for 62 years. Till death did us part.
@World Traveler I remember meeting Hulk at a vintage car show room, I think in St Pete, where he bought a late 50's Dodge.
As for the marriage, I was lucky. I met my perfect dream and we did everything together. Share your dreams, your hobbies, and learn to forgive.
Her name was Dollie. People called her Dolly Parton. She was from a poor country family, never wasted money, yet dressed to attract attention.
@World Traveler Good luck as you travel your world.
God bless you, sir.

I've never seen an interview of his like this, thoughtful before he spoke about others and chose his words well. There's so many of these wrestlers I wish I could of seen more of, before WWF came along in western Canada our wrestling was limited on what we could watch
He’s scammed hundreds of interviewers out of paid in front cash by not showing up. He’s notorious for his. This guy is anything g but classy and was a tired dinosaur in the ring past 85.
I met him at a Ace Frehley concert in NYC, and I went up to him and said, how you doing Champ? He was all smiles when I said that. He gave me a handshake and this guy is built like a tank. To me, he is one of the best IC champs ever
This is what the wrestling needs now. Guys like Greg Valentine. Seriously underrated by the guys today. This guy should be teaching wrestlers
AEW should give him a job
Agreed. Valentine is very underrated. He had a great IC run and made a lot of money and did so as the US champ in Crocket too.
He’s from the era where people actually wrestled, & weren’t called entertainers because they actually wrestled.

They BS a lot too. Their stories change many times.

Master of the "Figure Four" leg lock. What a LEGEND!
Whatever opinions fans had about "The Hammer," one thing was for certain, he helped put fans in the seats back in the day.
Define “back in the day”? I remember mid-80’s I found him incredibly boring. He always looked like he didn’t want to be there.

I could listen to Greg talk wrestling all damn day. He's got credibility and always tells interesting stories.
You are right. And he didn't have a massive ego. He had no problem doing what was asked... win or lose. (As long as he was paid... lol)

Mr. Valentine, a long time ago I worked as a security guard at The Calgary Olympic Saddledome. I was passing by in the concourse, and you smiled and said a big Hi to me, and I walked right by without returning your greeting, thinking that you were greeting someone else. The hammer is old school, no BS.
Yes!
Shoulda seen his daddy! No wonder he's old school. Didn't have much choice.
What a humble laidback dude.
You know a territory-era wrestler when he refers to the WWF as "New York" and GCW as "Atlanta." Love it.
Yeah, Yankee crap and Southern good stuff.
The old school territory guys are the best wrestlers and always have the best stories.
The "Hammer" was right, I respected the Road Warriors, but like "The Hammer" said, you couldn't have them wrestle for extended periods of time because of their limited amount of wrestling moves. Overall, I preferred WWF over the other wrestling territories, but I liked wrestling better when they had the territories. I have almost ignored wrestling once everything merged into one WWE.
Those were the days and they are sadly long gone
WWF and WCW have always been referred to by those respective towns
When I was a kid I liked watching Valentine wrestle. Lots of good matches. He was a machine. Not as big as some of the other wrestlers, but tough!
Valentine and Beefcake were my favorite team as a kid
Greg was a gravy train off his old man. Johnny was AWESOME and I loved watching him beat the sh#t out of Fritz Von Erich.

Greg Valentine, I was working airport security in the 90s after I got out the Corp. I saw a lot of wrestlers come through RDU. I turned to one of my coworkers and said there's Greg Valentine. He over heard me say his name and turned and shook my hand. That's when I would say I started liking the heels better in wrestling than the faces.
They were usually the nicest one 😂
Valentine was a glue guy. With all the gimmicks and such the WWF needed wrestlers who could wrestle to counter balance the gimmicks and create matches people would want to see more of. He was one of the best at that.

@TheVolourn Hogan was for himself for sure, but some people tried to help others out of good nature whereas Hogan was not a team player because he always wanted his way, little compromise, sneaky tactics, no honour in that if you know what it's worth
I really hope Greg is in good health and stays around with us for years to come. This guy was always a heel, but back when I was just a little kid he was one of my favorite guys to watch on WWWF in late 1970s and early 1980s. The wrestlers today look too cool and too sharp. They're unrelatable. The guys way back and up until the mid 90s had a real working class vibe.
Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Tucker, Otis, Walter, Keith Lee. Off the top of my head. Has nothing to do with wrestlers these days.

Yup cus Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, ultimate warrior, legion of doom they were just your average joe relatable people LOL Rose tinted glasses. Go watch osw review. They were great characters but 99% of the wrestling was garbage.
I saw '70s, '80s and up to early '90s. Maybe it's because I was a kid but the '70s beat the '80s, but then again I grew up watching a small NWA promotion (even before Vince / WWE, WCW) in SC, NC, VA. Talk about old school. Johnny Valentine, original Super Destroyer, Anderson's, 23-yr old Flair, Blackjack Mulligan, young Patera, Wahoo McDaniel, Sonny King, The Avenger, Angelo Mosca.

I never noticed Valentine as a 'smaller' wrestler dude. When he came on TV, it was . . cool man . . 'Greg the Hammer Valentine,' which meant a guaranteed win by the figure 4 leg lock. I don't think I ever saw Valentine lose on Saturday morning WWF. But I have to say, he was a 'villain,' and I liked guys like McGraw, Snuka, and Backlund. Wow. Not really a wrestling fan except when I was a kid, but I find this interview particularly enjoyable. Greg seems like a really down to earth guy.
Man, I was a wrestling fan back in the 80's when I was a kid. Seeing these guys now as just people talking about their job is wild. It's sad how many of them are absolute wrecks from everything they put themselves through. Not to mention the ones who died from the physical punishment combined with the crazy life that came with wrestling back then.
I was never a big Hammer fan, but I've rally enjoyed this interview serie...
I grew up with 80s cartoony WWF and the early stages of the MNW. The Hammer was already mostly gone from the brightest spotlights by then, but I still remember a friend of mine owning his Hasbro action figure and that his kneebreaker was a thing of sheer beauty. An whenever Greg was on TV somewhere, you just knew this guy commanded respect. Thanks to the Internet, I was able to catch up with his earlier stuff. As oldschool as wrestling can get, and I really appreciate him for that. Also, he seems to be one of the nicest guys around in a business which - especially during his heyday - seemed to be filled to the brim with egomaniacs, lunatics and backstabbers.
I met Hulk Hogan in a bar in Florida in the early 90's, he seemed like a nice guy, got his autograph on a $5 Canadian bill and a great picture with him.
