In Denmark, it's normal on the Westcoast? We got hundreds of kilometres wide beaches, we threw camping chairs, table, and a cooler with food, beer and softdrink in the car, and just role it just to the sea edge! 🇩🇰
When the first "A" models were undergoing testing at Eglin AFB in NW Florida back in the 1950's and to test a theory the engineers removed the landing gear doors and taxied the aircraft around in the loose white sand (not firm like this) off the edge of the runway just to see what it could do. It's a great off-roader. ( Retired USCG LoadMaster/DropMaster/Mechanic). I cut my teeth in Alaska on these birds (H Model) and many a time we landed on gravel strips and found a spot to park ourselves, no sissy lines to follow. These J Models are beyond my wildest dreams in performance except they have no Flight Engineer to keep the pilots in line and well behaved.
Designed to land on a short bombed runway.Back when I was in the army I was fortunate enough to have the experience of a short runway landing in one of these. Plane dropped out of the sky pulled up just in time to execute a perfect short runway land,I thought f..k this is going to crash but no.Plane stopped, we bailed out the back and took up defensive positions.And they paid me to do it !
Flew on a models in my airforce reserve unit. Great aircraft but they had green square patches. The patches were for bullet holes. They had just transferred them from Vietnam. Replaced the c119 which was really slow. Took forever to get off the ground . These 130 aircraft are powerful

My fellow pilot during C-130 Initial Tng, Little Rock AFB in '80, was with the Danish Air Force. Don't be fooled by this video. The Danish C-130 crews were often required to fly to Greenland, and in the winter.

Nice. This a one of the things a C-130 does. Got deployed to Cyprus many years ago with the danish UN Peacekeeping forces, took a ride from Copenhagen in the belly of one of yhese.
I remember a Hercules landing on a field on North-Falster, also in Denmark. Technicians had testet the field before the landing, but sadly not in the end! So when it tried to turn round for a new start, it was caught in the soft ground and it took a week to get the mostly sunk plane free again, much to amusement for the local population!
Love that plane! Have about 2000 hours in same; has been in continuous production since mid-1950's! That's SUCCESS! Lockheed has done the impossible multiple times; among other current projects, they have a fusion program: if they can pull that off, it will change our existence. Cheers!
It surprise me that such a heavy plane could land on beach. The sand is not solid like concrete. The wheels may sink into the sand & stuck, then the plane may turn up side down. Anyway, it landed safely. It think they must have checked the loading capacity of the landing runway before.

It throttle's up to gain speed and changes prop pitch and rotation to gain speed or to actually reverse without using a Tug car, and finally thrust reverse

You're right, this is standard protocol it happens all the time. And believe you me, it is sandy alright, very sandy. It is a very fine grained sand however and due to that it packs very compact. Civilians take their cars down there and park right at the water.
A quite common sight along the beach at Cefn Sidan (pronounced as Kevn Sheedan) sands near my home town of Llanelli in South Wales. The RAF practices tactical landings there several times a year, sometimes for 2 or 3 days or more. They create a safe landing site of 7000 feet but with around 8 miles (12km) of beach length almost completely dead straight and with well over 3 miles to the sea at low spring tide PLENTY of square miles in which to do it! Have to be a damn good reason to risk one of those on the beach! Pilot was keen to get moving, she was underway before the rear hatch was closed. What was he delivering, a card to mum? Couldn't he afford the postage stamp???
