MAGIC VISION CONTROL -- Mercedes-Benz Windshield Wipers
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 ноя 2013
- MAGIC VISION CONTROL cleans the windscreen without the splash of water that usually briefly disrupts the driver's field of view in the case of conventional windscreen washing systems -- something that is especially unpleasant at night or when the sun is low in the sky and at high speeds. It's also the first windscreen wipe/wash system anywhere in the world to operate intelligently via three partly autonomous was programs -- for summer, for winter and for cabriolet driving. The system works in accordance with the outside temperature and automatically adapts the washer fluid quantity to the surrounding conditions -- Now see the truly amazing technology at work.

“Uses 50% less water!”
Also is 150% more costly than normal Bosch
you wish it was 150% lol
and the cost of replace is 150% more. mercedes suck
Uses less. Sounds good until you realize a gallon of wiper fluid is $3 lol.
You don't understand luxury. 50% less water is not for saving money, but helping you not to fill the tank frequently.
To replace the entire wiper arm it's $448 each and the wiper blades are $80 each. Crazy the ones on my MX-5 are 3 years old and cost me $40 I clean them with silicone spray and a rag lol
And I'm only discovering this 6 years later
Same here
I only know that it failed
Same here

Kiddo
Thought it was something new lmao
Holy crap I needed this, I can't even count the times I've almost careened over a hill because of that . 2 of a second before the blades kicked in. And I'm not even going to say how much my wiper fluid budget is, I mean I go through at least a gallon of that stuff every couple of years. I'm buying this car. Thanks Mercedes..
Exactly my thoughts, the $2 I've spent on wiper fluid this past decade is prompting me to spend 50k more than a car is worth just to save on some of that blue water!
Everyone is ignoring the driving experience. For the good side, if $ isnt an issue (which shouldnt be for MB drivers): (1) Id feel safer with this, that's a plus; (ii) + it cleans faster/better and thats a huge plus; (iii) NOW for the WATER CONSUMPTION part -> doesnt it suck when you need to clean the windshield and water is low?
@@mistadobalina3495 Nice thinking
I know! I spend a whopping 10 dollars per year on wiper fluid and I wish I could only bring that down to a meager 5 with the addition of $1200 wipers!
@@SlimbTheSlime wait you guys pay for wiper fluid? i just fill mine at work every oil change lol
“Was there really anything wrong or dangerous about the old design?”

And they'll be out of stock in 10 years, just in time for a new mercedes...
You're right, we never should have abandoned horse carriages.

If windshield wiper fluid is blinding you.. what are you gonna do when it actually rains..
Usually the sun is gone by the time rain comes . so no reflection coming in your car blinding you .
Mercedes-Benz owners never drive in rain, of course 🤨
Good point there
Damn. This guy never drove before.
Probably takes the bus.
Then the car is going to stop at the side of the road
So glad for this, my washer fluid annual budget was killing me.
LMAO!!!!! Same here I thought spending 3-5 bucks every 2 months was way to much! 😂
Also think of the excessive water consumption of the conventional killing the environment. Lol.

After living in many different parts of the country, dealing with heavy rain, sleet, snow, dust and heavy bug splatter. I can really appreciate this new innovation. Daily I struggle with the dust and dried on bug splatter here in the desert. I can't tell you how many times I had to guess where I was in a lane because of heavy rain or wait for an opportune time to use the fluid just for headlight reflection in rain. This is truly an underrated innovation and I am 1000% behind it. Absolute genius to improve an "age old" process. Wish I was there for that "a-ha!" moment. love it.
Seems to works great on a perfectly clean windshield during a beautiful sunny day!
I broke one of my windshield wipers.

@MarkMolloy yeah, i agree, however, this clip is 9 years old. Just saying.
The price makes it less convenient for the masses
My 1991-95 Buick Roadmasters had a similar thing. This is more sophisticated, but it when you think about it, it's not that complex. They just ran a flexible hose up the inside of the wipe blade and the spray nozzle was then placed facing downward in front of the blade's swing. It worked well enough, and it was better for some things (and didn't require special wipers as the blade is the part you replace and it wasn't attached to the blade), but overall it made me use way more fluid. With normal hood mounted sprayers, you can just spray like half a second of fluid on the windshield and it is evenly covered and will get evenly cleaned.
To get even coverage with these you had to kind of spray for at least one full wipe cycle... and probably more.
thank god this saves wiper fluid. the 5 dollars per year I spend on topping it off was way too outrageous, the $1200 to replace these blades every 6 months is much more manageable.
I think this was a april fools joke

So, a single line of code?

Wow, so intelligent. Legit making about 10 seconds of work sound like it takes months.
In the newer Mercedes, this System was added to the Wiper-Arms, so you can use normal Wiper replacements like Bosch, but still get this System. Its also nice when you have a pretty Car, because this won't spray it all over the Body but only the windshield, so it wont be dirty
To be clear - the system would still spray without rubber blades installed / the system is built into the arm assembly?
@@secondarycontainment4727 exactly yes, the system is built into the wiper arms rather than the blades.

The old Holden Commodore in Australia had this. It just made wipers hard to find replacements and because the water was distributed more the holes block more regularly.
Needless to say they didn't make that mistake in the next model.
Toyota were smart enough to use only 1 hole per wiper, and a metal mesh near the nozzle to spread it. It also came 3 years before, in the 2010 Yaris 3gen, before Mercedes stole the idea.
Credit to Holden though, they had enough common sense to abandon the idea rather than continuing to push an over-complicated consumable product on the market. If only auto makers would wise up and realise that windshield replacements costing $2k due to the sensor calibrations required is also a stupid idea.

The system that Chrysler had in the 90's (nozzles attached to the wiper arms) works 90% as well, without any of the complexity. This is certainly more elegant of a solution, though.
AKJeeper It's not the first time when germans stealing ideas.
Mercedes stole a lot from Chrysler, not just money when they split.
Actually from the 70s. My 74 Dodge Charger has this feature.
I've seen the "wet arm wiper system" as it is called being retrofitted on a Smart car. But of course, Mercedes had to do something on their own.
Beginning with this generation of cars, you'll be paying labour costs for fitting new wipers, and the wipers of course will cost multiple times as much, since those laser cut spray nozzles are on the wiper blades.
But of course, you can retrofit almost any car with this silly system, as long as you are able to re-route the sprayer fluid hose into the wiper arm. All you need is a power drill and one rubber grommet on each wiper. This would be a great Saturday afternoon project.
Benz batter than Chrysler
Ah, the first sweep, with dirty windows and dry blades. Glorious!
it sprays in front and behind the wiper at different times. changes the spray direction depending on which direction the wiper is going.
No it doesn't. And that would be moronic with a convertible.
mudemmeonick I thought the same but it has sprayers on both sides. it also knows if the top is down and adjusts so that it doesn't get in the car :)
Actually, yes... yes it DOES have sprayers for *both* directions.
But let's not let facts get in the way of a ranty RUclips post.
People can only speak for what was actually shown, and what was shown didn't have sprayers running on both sides, it had dry blades running on a dry, dirty windshield on the first sweep, then washer running on the second sweep back. If it had both, they should have shown and demonstrated both, but they didn't do that.
What a great idea! Pour windshield wiper fluid only on one side so that it scratches the windshield when moving up! I'm glad this system saves fluid!
P.S. Pontiac Sunfire had the sprayer on the wiper arms too.
Ok that's kinda cool. Wonder if there is an after market on this. Can I retro fit this on my car?

What the people who think it’s all about saving water misses the point is that, this system does not cause an overspray situation, allowing your top off in a convertible while running it without getting wet.
The 2013 on onwards Toyota Yaris/Vitz. It has a single wiper with the sprayer fitted on it which sprays a jet of water parallel to the wiper at all times. Ben Dover Average MB owner doesn't keep their car five years though. By the fifth year the car is already on its second owner; part of the reason many luxury saloons tank in resale value is all the options that don't get fixed over life of car.
At least is not a Ford wich you have to throw away after 5 years 🤣
thechosendude yes, the person who will buy a Mercedes surely cares about the cost of a windshield wiper
Catalin Iolea lol wtf? A Mercedes is way less reliable than a Ford... literally anyone knows that
