That was an absolute pleasure to watch, and so nice to see tame ferrets and how you are so at ease letting them run around, thought mine were tame. Hats off weel edited video.
This is nature's way of dealing with zillions of rabbits being born constantly. Rabbits reproduce endlessly to insure that at least some will survive to adulthood; small carnivores, in turn, depend on a constant supply of rabbits to keep them alive.
@@dr.cherub.kharbanda Because if there aren't carnivores eating rabbits, there will be WAY too many rabbits. Look up what happened in Australia when rabbits were introduced there, with no predators to eat them. It was a disaster of destruction from rabbits eating all the vegetation they could.
I used to go ferreting when I was younger it was brilliant. Especially the field nets you'd never know if the rabbit would run underneath them. The night vision cams in the Warren's are class 👌
That's one of the reasons I never go on my own, when you start to dig a rabbit out you can't watch every net or hole for rabbits bolting or ferrets coming out. Great video though 👍 you can tell the rabbits are wary of the camera in the hole
Thanks! Also behind the scenes I'm changing camera positions, settings, angles, batteries etc. It especially becomes a problem when the ferreting becomes hands on, like this outing did. Yeah the rabbits absolutely react to the cameras presence. No way around it really if I want to film a day out. I'm sure they would be fully aware of the foreign body even if I switched to night vision.
@@ZeusPolecat Im looking at finding a camera I can attach to the ferret so you can get footage of what goes on right down in the warren, if at all possible 🤷♂️
@@ruralpestcontrol Tried it every year. I'm learning from past mistakes and once again I have high hopes but... I highly doubt with the current tech it will please me more than my current set up. One advantage I have this year is Leto seems more than happy to wear an awkward feeling collar/harness, as the others have objected to it. So at least I now have the ferret for the job...
@@ZeusPolecat I remember my mother told about her dad clearing up the field with his animal friend that he used to own and hunt with! And that is perhaps the only animal that can both unearth in several minutes and also outrun a hare!He actually tried clearing field with a huge male Siberian tiger Neron of hares! And those since they first met were Neron's pain in the butt:they were very exhausting to catch but delicious and closely resembling his favourite meal and his favourite toys, rabbits and bunnies(live only)-which he really loved to play with and devour alive, since in 6 months old he was beginning to get a hunting training course given to him by grandad! Anyway grandad had to give him an additional course to teach him to take down those!Obviously those were mostly hiding as well as rabbits, yet Neron didn't unearth those as those were given to him by grandad and mom,so couldn't get underground! And hares were obviously 99,9% of the time underground and that is how they fixed the problem:first of all as Neron couple of times unearthed foxes,he was not that hard to teach that, yet than grandad decided to apply his natural and guy i very strong repellent for lagomorphs that any cat has actually, scent marking! So he either peed in the hole and waited for the bitch to chase or unearthed them mechanically! So through the course of 3 days they got entire fridge full of meat, and ate a crap load of these too!
The last bit of footage from last winter. Thank you all for subscribing! The channel just past the 100,000 subscriber mark! I'll put a video together for it soon, as always I'm running a little late.
Thank you for these. Your babies are BEAUTIFUL. When I was in college (approximately 1997), I loved coming home to the dooking of my big boy, Leopold. He was a fantastic ferret and I miss him dearly.
A long time ago I also had ferrets. I got a brown one from a gardener, it knew how to hunt well and its victims always had bite wounds on the anus. An albino male I got from a city apartment, where it was only supposed to be a toy for the children. This ferret was lazy and did not walk the corridors of rabbits. But it smelled strongly and from the smell the rabbits fled and quickly went into the nets. My hunt was along the railroad tracks, the highways, in city parks, and cemeteries. In some places I could not kill the rabbits and had to collect them in a box. Some people were annoyed that I was catching the rabbits, other people wanted to see me more often because the rabbits were eating the plants in their garden. My goal was to prevent damage from the burrows of the rabbits. The rabbits came to me first in the freezer and then in the roasting oven. No other hunters had a problem with me and my ferrets.
Sometimes they can take a bit longer to come out, an hour is usually the longest. Only once did I wait all afternoon until dark before deciding to block the holes with the ferret inside. Went back first thing in the morning and opened a hole, she came straight out.
Are your Ferrits trained to come to you with a clicker or another sound? I have by ferret come to me with a clicker so I never have to dig for them. I have not done it yet but I think Marten would be a great rabbit animal.
The first ferret on the cover is the one I need to get it's for a reason to have a companion in there I would love to get the ferret on the cover sent to my house 🎉❤ 3:51
@Zeus Polecat 3:51 I think I saw a flame trail from that first rabbit he’s so fast Also I have a question how do you kill the rabbits after caught in the net?
Thanks! True, I tried to film slightly larger warrens last winter. It can be too much with manning all the cameras at the same time. I might revert back to mainly smaller warrens again. Shall see.
An enterprising hunter would be capturing those rabbits and releasing them five miles down the road. They’d have 30 employees by the end of the summer.
Loved rabbiting has a kid and love watching others doing it
You have to love the little chuckles they do. Makes me smile every time, great video!
Thanks. Haha Leto gets very excited about the whole situation.

Zeus Polecat Maybe make some kind of housing that makes the camera look more like a rock so the digging buggers won’t be so wary.

Your ferret is gorgeous 😍😍😍
Seems like it'd be a good idea to put bells or something on the nets, so you don't miss when a rabbit gets caught in one.
