Now tell me guys, is Sohyang not the best female singer you have ever seen and heard? And yes, that was a Bb5 belted and held for who knows how long?!!! If this was the Grammys the whole world would be looking for their jaws on the floor and raving about her for months on end! 😎💖💖💖
A guy I know actually met Sohyang after a concert she gave in California last October and had his picture taken with her. What a lucky dog! He said the thing that struck him most was not how beautiful she is but rather that she is so narrow. She is a petite woman at 5' 4" and only 100 pounds but my acquaintance was struck most by how narrow she is from shoulder to shoulder.
Sohyang has said in an interview that this 2014 performance before Michael Bolton was the most pleasing to her personally up to that point in her career because Michael Bolton is one of her absolutely favourite singers, and because he was so effusive in his praise for her she was satisfied that she and her team could produce similarly world class songs and performances. And hey, Michael Bolton told her she was a vocal "virtuoso" after the concert and invited her to join him for the rest of his South Korean tour. How do you beat that? Well, Michael Bolton can offer to take you on an entirely new world tour making you the featured guest--and that is _exactly_ what he did!
Unfortunately, or not, the two could not make their schedules match no matter how hard they tried and the tour never materialized. This was actually fairly depressing for Sohyang because she really wanted to go BIG TIME in the music business at that exact moment but everything seemed to conspire against her. Pneumonia problems would crop up and this has been a chronic problem for Sohyang. She would later recognize this as God's way of preventing her from getting caught up in the North American and European music industry that would have been destructive to her character at that time. Sohyang is humble enough and courageous enough to confess she had become so ambitious that she was an ugly person, short tempered with other people and not treating them with proper respect. I know, my jaw hit the floor when I read the interview too! Sohyang a _mean person?_ Say it ain't so! But we all have times where we are embarrassed at how we behaved and Sohyang is just a human being, like the rest of us.
Two years later in 2016 Sohyang was almost ready to quit the entire music business because her health problems were so bad. Yet she had given her truly immortal performances of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Arirang Alone," "Everyone" and "I Have Nothing" only the previous year in 2015, and "The Prayer" and "Power Of Love" in 2014--songs _any_ diva who has ever walked the earth would _kill_ to have in their repertoire! So she plundered her bank account and took a trip to New York, Boston and Philadelphia. In the latter city Sohyang saw a quote from President Franklin Roosevelt where he had said in his inaugural address during the Great Depression of the 1930s that "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." This proved so inspirational for her that when she got back to South Korea she entered the "King of the Masked Singers" contest in 2017 and won it on six consecutive occasions! Still the pneumonia dogged her so badly she knew it was God's way of telling her she had to reassess why she had become a singer in the first place. And that was to sing to lift people's spirits who were going through hard times.
In 2018 David Foster himself did eight concerts with her at Tokyo's Blue Note Club and it is thought he offered to be the producer for new recordings of her. But she had been really reconsidering her purpose in life and decided the Hollywood lifestyle was the last thing she truly wanted, and in 2020 she turned down a contract offer from Sony Music US, _the second largest music corporation in the world!_ And there were many others before that going back a decade or so! Since then Sohyang has been resolute in her decision to stay away from the music "industry" and manage her own career for the purposes she had started it all with. I for one can't express how happy I am she has chosen the path she did because she is one of the most inspirational people I have ever come across in my entire life, and I know countless others feel exactly the same way. 👌😉💖💖💖

@@eddianproject You might find this interesting. Sohyang's new album, due out in September, is being distributed by Warner Music Group, the third largest music corporation in the world. She hasn't signed with Warner but I'm pretty sure _any_ of the major labels would snap her up in a heartbeat. A lot of the reason she declined with Sony Music was that they wanted her to tour more than she thought she could bear physically. And her concerns they would try to force songs on her that she disagreed with morally. I, personally, don't understand why Sony would not modify their contract offer to satisfy the best soprano in the world. But the music business is a strange business. Sohyang's sister in law plays guitar for the Jonas Brothers and she helped her assess whether it was a good contract or a hard nosed one. 🤷♂

SoHyang Loves Singing and taking people’s mind off there everyday problems or grief! She is a Christian women and has turned down 3 big Companies including Sony a couple years ago! She talks about her struggles with God and how she went to the bssement of her Families home and argued with God about him standing in the way of her Dream but he won every argument, saying she was not mentally or emotionally or maybe even Spiritually ready and might have been unable to fight the pressure and temptations! The last couple years have indicated she has been given the go ahead;-) I have followed this Wonderful Performer and Human being for almost 13 years! It has been a wonderful and inspiring journey! She never started singing till her later teens and never wanted to be a Singer! In fact she wanted to be a cartoon illustrator ! She is very artsy, decorated her and her husbands apartment in the family home , she does very good sketches, has written several Fantasy moves and hope to one day turn one into a movie, also written several Faith as well as life books, she has had her own gospel minister for years and travel to about 50 countries spreading her Ministry of Love ! With her first song released from her new Album , shows she is serious and ready!
One of my favourite covers is of the Jazz classic ,”Misty! My two favourite covers of it have always been, Johnny Mathis and Sarah Vaughan ! After hearing SoHyang, I felt what I felt the first time I heard Mr.Mathis sing it! Now she is my favourite( no offence to Johnny and his Fantastic vocals)

Guys, I'm a bit late, but glad to see you and wanted to make a few notes for you. As you travel through the World of Sohyang, remember that she and her personal team do ALL of the arrangements (she arranges the music) for stage appearances (this Staging won her an Award). Several of the vocalists and musicians on stage here are semi-permanent members of her backup team (You will see them in other videos - they are superb). Of course, you saw Michael Bolton. This concert was in his honor and included only his hit songs. There were many Korean Superstars that performed in it - the camera glimpsed several of them. You spotted Lena Park, Ailee was also on screen. They also performed in this show - fabulous performances all. A video of the entire concert is available. Keep going. She will continue to surprise you, so be sure to have your seat belts fastened.

People in Asia and those with RUclips around the world are really big fans because she has the vocal skills of a goddess, and one listen informs even slightly knowledgeable people like me that she is better than anyone else in the female half of our race. I like a lot your reactions. Usually you see average guys/girls saying "wow" or "OMG" every 3 seconds, or sometimes vocalists stopping every 30 seconds and explaining 10 minutes the shape of the mouth and why this is a mix voice and not a chest voice. Well, we aren't in the classroom.
I like also your knowledge about great singers and great songs. It is not rare to see pro musicians (usually from US) wondering who is this guy (to M Bolton) or they never heard about Simon&Garfunkel. I had a remark to a couple of them (a man -sound engineer and a woman - singer) and they replied, "We cannot know every singer on the planet". Dude, Simon&Garfunkel aren't every singer. Anyways, I didn't saw them reacting after that.
Well, now, after promising me few days ago you will take a look to Park Ki Young, I want to highlight there are some rules here (joking😊) : who reacts to the Queen Sohyang, they have to react to the princess Diana (Ankudinova) and the prince Dimash (there is only one Dimash). Usually "Rechenka" for Diana when she was 14 yo, but now she grown up, she's 18, so "Can't help falling in love" could be a good start.
Regarding Dimash, everyone starts with "SOS". But please choose I'm a Singer show 2017 or Slavic bazar show 2019, not the Digital Show 2021, because you won't believe his voice is not engineered somehow, so good he is.

Sohyang is responsible for the arrangements to all her songs. The band & the backing singers all belong to the tv show & accompany all the singers. She is a very clever lady & is a university lecturer in music in her day job. You seemed surprised that she sings gospel but although this amazing lady can literally sing ANY genre, she is actually a gospel singer at heart/ or a singer of CCM ( contemporary Christian music) which is why her arrangements of songs often have elements of gospel in them even though they aren’t usually associated with that genre in their original form.
Sohyang can’t belt out these big tv productions in her sleep & if you’re thinking surely she must sing 1 note out of tune I can tell you now that it’s never gonna come, this woman seems to only do perfect. If you would like to see something different from these big tv performances then I suggest you check out her performances on a programme called ‘begin again Korea’ which were done during covid. This was on tv but it was small ensemble of well known Korean pop stars/ musicians that travelled around Korea putting on mini gigs to very small audiences ( cos of social distancing) and of a more acoustic nature. If you ever want someone to sing with either little or no musical accompaniment , then sohyang is your girl. In these performances there are many songs that you will know & some that are Korean & you will also see her versatility genre wise.
Her first offering was her live rendition of ‘I will always love you’ on the dockside in the blistering heat. I have been a sohyang fan for many years but when I saw this performance I thought to myself ‘I can’t believe it but she has got better as she’s got older’. Her ability to stay on pitch whatever the song & the setting astounds me.
I think you would probably like to hear her sing a little jazz, so check out her performance of Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Misty’. ( my fav from this series).

As I’m typing I’ve got the classic ‘mental block’ but I shall go away & compiles list with the other performances but just to say they will include sohyang rapping & sohyang the rockstar amongst others.
It doesn’t really matter in what order you see Sohyang’s performances, it’s not like some are good & some are bad, they are all equally brilliant & the only way that one deserves to be above another is quite simply personal tastes, so I recommend that while you are getting requests to do another Sohyang reaction you can watch them either 100% confidence that it’s gonna be AMAZING!!

Thanks for the reaction to Sohyang's Lean On Me. I'm impressed that you know Jay Park and Lena Park. This episode of Immortal Songs 2 was Michael Bolton's songs. 7 singers including Jay Park and Lena Park and obviously Sohyang sang Michael Bolton's songs. Jay Park sang When A Man Loves A Woman and Lena Park sang Completely. You should react to Lena's as well. Lena was standing next to the curtain of the stage because that is the spot for the winner of the competition up to that stage. Lena was the winner through Stage 6 and Sohyang was 7 and the last. Interesting thing is that Lena was recognized as one of the best female singers and much more famous than Sohyang. But this Sohyang's performance in front of Michael Bolton and Michael Bolton's standing ovation changed everything. Sohyang was recognized as one of good singers, but this performance made people think she reached the next level. Lena was one of the best singer in I Am A Singer 1 and Sohyang was in I Am A Singer 2 and took the 3rd place and got famous, but not as Lena. But in about 2 years she literally reached another level and this performance was changed her career. This was the first of her appearance on Immortal Songs 2 and the people around the world know her because of her Immortal Songs performances.
