To push over the trees first dig the roots out. Not all the way but enough to help the tree fall the way you want it to go. Then raise the boom as high as you can and push the tree at the highest you can reach. They push over pretty easy.
You would be surprised how much those cottonwoods steal Sunlight and ground water. I can’t stand trees on my tree lines.

Watching you learn how to operate your excavator is like I’m learning too. Nice work.

Just remember.. there's only 2 ways to do this kind of work... The right way is getting it done with no damage to people or machines.. the wrong way is damaging the machine or people... You're already showing improvement...

A mechanical ( manual ) thumb would be a less expensive alternative and still really speed up any job. You’ll find so many uses for that excavator now that you have it.

Why not have a logger come in and cut the big timber then dig your stumps out they will make pallet logs. That way you all can farm all of the ground.

Way cheaper but takes some effort is just count them down with a chainsaw if you're not going to clean it up so you can use it.
