I recently bought one for my grand daughter to use in primary school. She found it comfortable to use and is proud of her neat writing. Her father used a Parker Vector for school when he was 10, and he used Parker Vectors right through high school, but this Pelikan Twist is much smoother and IMO much to be preferred to the Vector.
I grew up in Germany using these pen in primary school. When you use it for the first time, you should have squeezed the cartridge to begin with. And when that does not work, give a strong swing so the centrifugal force drives the ink to the nib. I remember biting on the cartridge to give an extra squeeze... It's for primary schoolers, they are designed to withstand being thrown around and abused. They can hold two cartridges in its barrel. One engaged, another facing backwards.
Thank you your comment helped me why i had 2 cartridges! First i put a cartridge the over way round in its thing amd it got stuck then when my mum took it out one of the cartridges kept going in the pen then i found this comment and you helped me thank you.
You need to squeeze the cartridge a couple of times so you can get the ink flowing trough the nib. I have cartridges that are more than 10 years old and they work just fine. Thanks for the review... interesting pen!
Ha ha ..you tube is ma grandma...my God ..I twisted nearly 27 times to make it align ...gave up ..went to ma grandmom...thankyou you showed the twist align...haaa
When I have a problem with start up with a cartridge I dip the nib into bottled ink and give it a good soaking and start writing. By the time the dipped ink is expended, the cartridge begins to flow nicely. No need to squeeze the cartridge. This works almost every time for me.
I just bought this pen with a converter. It’s very nice for a throw around work pen. I was looking for a purple pen so I bought this one in the mystic green purple. I’m going to buy the dark purple one next. My only complaints is that it doesn’t have a clip and only medium nib. Give us a clip option like Kaweco.
Interesting. I have never seen one in person, but I am always trying to convince my grandchildren that fountain pens makes sense. Of course, despite the evidence to the contrary, educational systems in the USA and parts of the UK and even the European continent have decided they do no have time to teach cursive any longer. As a result, my grandchildren (one a freshman in high school) do not even really know how to hold a pencil or a pen. It pains me to watch them try to make numbers even. But, as you often say, “I digress.” :)
Writing is good for everyone to learn. Ming/body integration. Turning your thoughts into something physical. Unfortunately, today instant gratification with minimal effort is the focus. We grew up experiencing life in all its attributes, what we liked & didn't. What felt good & what hurt. We learned a lot about life.
@@chrisrap52 I forgot to “post” my response, so I will be more brief. Scientific studies of handwriting and the human brain seem to “prove” you are right! Unfortunately, the vast wasteland of academia is the School of Education, where little research of any value is actually produced. I am sure they would never use any handwritten notes. :)
im not an expert but i have recently moved from using cartridge pens to a converter now. to whatever ive notice in about 5 years of using cartridge in my pens ,i prefer holding the pen upside down for a minute or two so the ink gets some time to flow . that is a great pen to use tho 🙃
I always let my new pens to have a bath in a glass of water during two hours before to ink them for the first time. After they write already well at their first time and I also avoid the boring troubles you had in your video.
Finally, a concise review talking about important things like nib and how it writes and how it feels. Thank you!

Thanks. I am not familar with cartridges. I found that i needed two cartridges in barrel to stop the firstone from coming loose.

+mrN3wI have older sealed cartridges that have no ink. Depends on how the cartridge was made, stored, etc.
+chrisrap52 I guess you are right... if they are not sealed properly eventually they will dry out.
@@chrisrap52 You can always reconstitute the ink by injecting distilled water into the cartridge.
@@muskndusk Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
@@chrisrap52 It's an idea I picked up on the FPN forum.

Good idea, I'll try it next time.

Very nice! How would you fit a removable clip to a triangular pen?
@@chrisrap52 if it’s made the same way the Kaweco clip is made only rounded triangular to slide on and off would be nice.

The finish of this pen reminds me of an inside-out watermelon for some reason.
Perfect description.
Hi,
Thank for the video. Any ink pens of any brand need to be dipped into the ink initially before writing
Some do, some don't. Depends on pen, ink, environment & how long since last used.
@@chrisrap52 true, i meant for recent pens that are only supporting ink cartridges.
Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching & supporting my channel.

+Vecchia Guardia Stilografica The troubles were due to the cartridge not the feed. I flush new pens before inking.
Perfect, then.
when you put a cartridge first time you have to leave the pen vertical, nib down, for a while, then use it.
Yes, ink needs to fill feed. Also need to do when eye droppered. If you use a converter you pull ink thru feed saturating it while filling.
hey is the medium? or fine. And also do you think it is decent buy?
+Jim Mckey It is a fine nib. If you like the style it is a good buy.
I find it hard for ink to flow too
I blame the cartridge.
@@chrisrap52 mine was new and I blame the pen :) also...their fine nib is not as fine as it should.
