  • Amazing day trip from Tokyo - climbing Mount Takao! Beautiful scenery, super-fun chairlift, waterfall & watermelon ice cream! This was one of the highlights of the trip & I hope you enjoy the vlog!

    Mount Takao is less than an hour from Tokyo by train, and it's the most climbed mountain in the world. However there weren't many foreign tourists there, and it's not in many lists of things to do near Tokyo, so I wanted to share it with you! You can take a chairlift or cable car up the mountain, and there's a choice of trails on the way up and down. I'd highly recommend it! For more details about how to get there, take a look at my blog post coming soon on www.cakeswithfaces.co.uk

      @@cakeswithfaces yeah, it's incredibly beautiful,... just don't carry food out in the open or you'll probably be attacked by red hawks,... also, it's kind of sad, many of the arhat statues were decapitated after the Meiji Restoration, but for some reason the large Buddha wasn't damaged.

    Nice video! Hey, how many hours did it took you to complete all the trip (including the train-trip to get there and come back)? And is there an entrance fee or you only pay for the chair lift? Hope you can answer me, thanks!

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks! The train there from Tokyo is just less than an hour each way. We spent about 6 hours there, so it was a day trip. We didn't get back too late so there was still time in the evening. It would be quicker if you get the chair lift on the way down as well. There's no entrance fee - just the cost of the cable car or chair lift. So if you walked it would be free! :-)

    Hey Amy, what time of year did you visit Mt Takao? 😊 Your recent Hokkaido videos have inspired me to visit the Sapporo Snow Festival next February! 😄 I also have some time in Tokyo and wonder how chilly it would be to do the same hike? 🤔❄️
    Also, are you planning to do anything for the 2020 Olympics? Accommodation prices are crazy at the moment! 😳

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  5 лет назад

      I went to Takao in October. It was actually this time of year that I booked my trip for the snow festival! Book your Sapporo hotel as early as you can so you can get somewhere affordable, because everywhere will be booked up (and they're about 3 times the usual price because everyone wants to go!).
      In February it wasn't that cold in Tokyo - I mean it was cold, but it was warmer than the UK. One day was even 17 degrees C (but I think that was unusual!). The average is between 0 and 10 degrees C, and it doesn't snow very often in Tokyo. So I think it'd be ok to do the hike, just take a hat and scarf just in case!
      I'm avoiding the Olympics, it'll be too busy!!

    We actually hiked up all the way to the top last summer, and the scenery was awesome! I would've wanted to use the lift but my boyfriend was very determined to walk... and I have to say it was pretty cool to be on the top after all that work. We used the chair lift to go down, and that was scary as hell. :D

    i made it to the top of there last year. Definately worth doing. The chairlift was closed though :( I dont remember which path I took, but there was plenty of shrines. I also noticed the higher up the mountain you go, the higher the vending machine prices haha. Very sneaky xD

      I went as a day trip. It's about an hour on the train each way from central Tokyo, then we spent about 6 hours there, so we were back for dinner. :-) Some people go as an afternoon trip, if you take the chair lift or cable car on both the way up and down. Hope that helps! :-)

      Definitely. I took the Inariyama trail up to the top and then went down via parts of 5, 4 and 2 and the Echo Lift (still have the map) with a little excursion to Jataki Falls on the way. Turned out pretty unexciting and in no way worth almost killing myself on the way down and back up.
      But I'm so glad I went there, I was originally in Tokyo for the Magical Mirai concert with a few days to spend and found out about Mt.Takao on the last day after breakfast.

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  7 лет назад

      I'm no advanced hiker and I didn't think it was very hard. The trail we took on the way up was easy. The way down had a lot of steps - my friend has back problems and found it challenging. There's no actual climbing, apart from the section you can see in the video where you walk through a stream (I was worried it would be slippery but it was actually fun!).
