I am amazed that the rails have stayed in gauge for 67 years having the ties rotted away years ago.
I will 2nd dkneuer's request for track restoration updates. I know that the line south of Robertsdale is in speeder shape all the way to just outside of Woodvale.

People forget how powerful dirt and idleness is. Some sections are more distorted than others. The section though threesprings was slowly buried by lack of maintenance over the last years of the RR and no trees grew within the rails as the city’s park was there. It had been mowed often and kept solid by the gentle pounding of those walking the right of way. Thus the rails had no way to shift to ether side. Tho not perfectly within gauge as winter and summer weather has expanded and contracted around it, they remain

    • @mattsmocs3281

It is technically active. They are currently repairing track further north to Pogue. This is future trackwork as there is still 3 or so miles between pogue station and here. As for the paved over crossing penndot will repair that as it was done when the RR was closed from 2011 to 2019

Almost expected you to drive over the asphalt, like the Indonesian sugar cane railways, they pave the rails every year over and the locomotives rip them open because of planning chaos and/or legal lassez-faire.

The rails north of the crossing are OOS till a thousand some feet south the cemetery crossing in rockhill. This is roughly a 3 mile gap of track which is currently being rebuilt at good pace.

Abandoned rail , Three Springs hasn't seen train traffic since 1956 and the railroad has left that area abandoned since then a nonprofit organization bought part of the line to hold rail enthusiast rides.

@@josephbennett3482 not abandoned mate. It was not filed for abandonment with the FRA or ICC as the filing was haulted by the kolshavic family, it is classed as "out of service" which means they do not need to maintain it but it is ready for reactivation when needed. Second in the 1970s the M1 ran a trip down to robertsdale and back a few times which solidified it as in service. Just because it is currently not passable doesn't mean it's abandoned.
