Hey guys it'll be cool if you did videos like "Blues rig without busting the bank" and "metal rig by busting the bank" and so on. I'd love to know your preferences on each genre! Just thought it was a neat idea:)
That has to be the best sound like to date. Spot on tones that were so instantly recognisable it took me back 10yrs and made me dig out their albums. Don't you love it when you re-discover old favs? Cheers guys, you just made my day!
Not to be that guy, but he started using Jazzmasters right after the morning view era. For light Grenades he started using that vintage Gibson coupled with the Jazzmasters and for the touring cycle of INNW he started using the EBMM Albert Lee. But he switched back to the Fender Telecaster after that. Also, he recorded and started recording with/playing with a Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster Thinline right around INNW. I'm probably one of the few fans that actually prefer Mike Einzger with a Jazzmaster rather than a PRS...even more so my favorite era of incubus was ACLOTM through INNW. But anyways. I really enjoyed this video and I'm just a fan of Mike Einziger.
Oh man this took me back to when i wanted to sing like Brandon and play like Mike!! Morning view was the album that really got me into drums. I Love incubus and you did an amazing job, it sounds spot on!!
Loving your stuff guy! Massive incubus fan and I reckon you nailed it this time. Would love to see you do SILVERCHAIR. Great band! Not sure how well know they are in the UK but I’m sure a whole heap of AUSSIES would really appreciate it. Thanks for the great vids!!
Damn I thought your "Are You In" sounded better than the original. This was spot on. Also this was odd timing cause I just watched the without busting version last night.
Just from the first minute of this video, this may be the most accurate sounding Busting video you've done. It's obvious you guys know their sound well. Kudos to a job well done on this video!
18:48 much love for making sure Dirk got credit there. Nothing against Ben Kenney, but Dirk was the bassist through all their albums up to and including Morning View, which were the years I was most actively into them. So he's always got a special place in my heart in regards to Incubus.
I am very curious to see if you guys could do a "Sound Like Genesis (Steve Hackett) Without Busting the Bank" video and/or a "Sound Like System of a Down BY Busting the Bank" video.
PRS and Mesa are really made for each other. You can really pick any Custom 22/24 off the shelf and plug it into a Mark or Rectifier and always get an amazing sound. You guys really nailed this one.
This is my all time favourite sounds like video. I wasn't even a fan of incubus before i watched this.this video changed things 😅 absolutely amazing! Chills..
Little fun fact, Einziger used a specific PRS hollowbody which was thicker than what they do now, more like a jazz style hollowbody. And he used 2 Tremoverb combos with extension cabs not rectoverbs. All pedals directly into the front of amp. And if anyone cares on Science it was a Custom 24 with a Tremoverb head and 4x12 cab.
Commenting until I get Soundgarden BY Busting or Bush without busting. Need to hear those Down on the Upside and King Animal tones if you guys come back to Soundgarden!
To be fair most guitarists will agree that most of the Incubus sound is the bass and the groove. The guitars are there but a huge part of it is funky tight bass.
Early 2000’s was such a great era for rock music. Wish I could have soaked it in more but I was just a hair too young to really remember it clearly. It’s kind of astonishing though to think of how many fantastic bands were around at that time
Sounded amazing guys! Loved Incubus back in the day. Not listened to their stuff for ages but will now look to give my ears a blast. Keep up the great work. :)
He uses Music Man live, he went almost full on Fender, being that mainly Jazzmaster and then Telecaster (surely he used Strats and some other stuff here and there). PRS is the 'classic' Incubus, Fender is the 'modern', if we split into pre and post Morning View. Mike and Rabea, that would be a duo to remember.
I’d really love to see you guys do a Sound like... of Failure. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards have such an incredible tone, and I’d love to be able to get within the ballpark!
I mean you're kind of there, the warmth is actually a rotary speaker pedal for the intro. The chorus is a phase 90. The Mesa definitely sounds great though. I believe the only time Mike uses the Boss PH-2 in this song is during the the bridge section/hammer on pull off part, which set to mode 2 (i.e. 12 stage phaser). With a really slow speed so it emphasises the highs and lows of the sweep which gives it that unique sound.
Man! When you guys played Megalomaniac I instinctively clapped twice and woke up the dog! Incubus was my shizzy. Saw these guys more times than I can count. Excellent work both of you!!
He also used chorus and flanger pedals and a. Maxon 808 back in the Science and Enjoy incubus records from the late 90s ! My fav 2 albums 🤘🏼 And he used a Mesa boogie dual rectifier ( the old 90s TWO channel ones....the best Recs) blended with a Marshall jcm 900 slx super lead
i think you guys pretty much nailed it this time! I'd love to see you try to sound like the Scorpions. those soaring leads on a budget might be a fun challenge!
Hey Andertons! I have an idea for you... What about starting a series of Sound like but with Multieffect units (Headrush, Helix, Kemper etc.) ??? It will be so awesome !
Really good stuff here. Mike played those thick PRS Archtop guitars during Morning View, but I think the Hollowbody II is a good compromise to cover most of their music.
For The Warmth, Mike uses a Hughes and Kettner Pedal Called Rotosphere. It's basically a Leslie simulator that includes a tube. He mixed that with the EVH MXR Phase 90 (used separately). You could have used the Strymon Lex for that. The Phase 90 is also a really important pedal for him! And you guys lost the opportunity to use the DOD Gonkulator! The guitar and amp are perfect, and they sound so good together, but he's been using Fender for the last 14 years, so a good Tele or Jazzmaster could have been interesting too. Anyways it was a great Sounds Like! I'm looking forward to visiting the store in September :) . PD: Rabea, you just nailed the Priceless riff dude!
Hey guys it'll be cool if you did videos like "Blues rig without busting the bank" and "metal rig by busting the bank" and so on. I'd love to know your preferences on each genre! Just thought it was a neat idea:)
Cristiano Salgado I totally agree. While doing specific artists has it's place, doing genres would be MASSIVE utility....and a lot of fun!!!
I would love this as well!
I agree with this.
Please... EVH !!!!!
P.D. Gary Moore or Metallica BY Busting the bank too...
EVH Wolfgang
Marshall DSL
MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive
MXR EVH Chorus
MXR EVH Flanger (for Unchained)
MXR Phase 90
Tone City Tape Machine delay
and maybe a dunlop cry baby wah
Marshall DSL over a 5150 III that he *actually uses*?
William Allison he had some Echo Plexs too and from what I understand, they were goosing his output
EVH...Where is that? Really!
@Smurfman256 they can't get an EVH amp on a £1500 budget
You had the opportunity to call it Sound Like Incubus: Priceless edition, c'mon guys :P
Is someone going to say it?
That video would just be them singing pardon me in the subway
That has to be the best sound like to date. Spot on tones that were so instantly recognisable it took me back 10yrs and made me dig out their albums. Don't you love it when you re-discover old favs? Cheers guys, you just made my day!
Do Porcupine Tree
This.
This is definitely one of the best sounding I’ve heard so far. In my opinion. Really just dead on with these tones. Great sounds.
Spot on! He used the Tremoverb(nit picking IK) which is higher in wattage and has a better clean(apparently) but honestly you nailed it!
Not to be that guy, but he started using Jazzmasters right after the morning view era. For light Grenades he started using that vintage Gibson coupled with the Jazzmasters and for the touring cycle of INNW he started using the EBMM Albert Lee. How about sound like Dinosaur Jr.? It would be awesome to be a budget grandma of the grundge!
Oh man this took me back to when i wanted to sing like Brandon and play like Mike!!
Morning view was the album that really got me into drums.
I Love incubus and you did an amazing job, it sounds spot on!!
Great video guys. Mike is the reason why I use a PRS Hollowbody. An incredibly underrated guitar player!
Sounds like primus? Been waiting a while gentlemen !!!
James morley yes YES!
Just from the first minute of this video, this may be the most accurate sounding Busting video you've done. It's obvious you guys know their sound well. Kudos to a job well done on this video!
Fuck. That ‘Are You In’ riff and bass groove still give me chills to this day. Epic intro.
To be honest at this point I almost watch these exclusively for the bloopers!
This has to be the best outtake of andertons tv ever
Had me in stitches funny as.
LOVE Incubus!!! Going to see them in concert next month w/ my Dad. I’m SO STOKED!!!
Hell yes! I absolutely love watching these no matter who you're trying to sound like so please never stop :D
Finally, a PRS with a tone I like. The guitar/amp combo sounds killer.
Actually his amps were Trem O'Verbs which are pretty much the old 2 channel Dual Rectos with trem and verb...
18:48 much love for making sure Dirk got credit there. Nothing against Ben Kenney, but Dirk was the bassist through all their albums up to and including Morning View, which were the years I was most actively into them. So he's always got a special place in my heart in regards to Incubus.
I had a 6 disk CD changer in my first truck and morning view never left until I sold the truck. Maybe 5 years. Makes me feel so nostalgic.
Seriously, thank you guys for using the neck pickup. That's one of Mike's big things that helps thicken it up. Bravo!
GOD.. right when you hit the circles riff I was blown away. Literally spot on
Matt has the most genuine and hilarious laugh, i can't help it but to crack up whenever he does.
Sounds like Prince (early 80’s)
Wow, nailed Circles sound! One of the closest I’ve heard from these. Love this series, btw!
The Warmth too!
The sound for the warmth gave me chills.. so amazing
Second best thing about these revisits are the tonal recalls back to chubby Bea. Amazing how far the guy has come.
why the audio sounds like pirated movie on youtube? (pitch down)
Boy Aditya i was gonna say what happened to bea's slightly adorible voice he sounds so much more serious n shit
probably got recorded in a 48000 Hz sample rate and somewhere along the way was converted to 44100 Hz, which will lower the pitch of the audio.
Playback at 1.25 speed :)
Lowing the sample rate will not lower pitch...
might be to protect against content ID because they nailed the tones too well?^^
I am very curious to see if you guys could do a "Sound Like Genesis (Steve Hackett) Without Busting the Bank" video and/or a "Sound Like System of a Down BY Busting the Bank" video.
PRS and Mesa are really made for each other. You can really pick any Custom 22/24 off the shelf and plug it into a Mark or Rectifier and always get an amazing sound.
You guys really nailed this one.
When are these guys going to do a sound like Andy Summers from The Police?
If they did Andy Summers they would need to do Sting's bass tone as well.
Of all the sound like rigs this is the one I want the most, what an absolutely glorious tone. And it looks great which is a plus
I'd love to see you do a 311 sound like, thanks. Love your work
the best Sound Like so far!! Best Equipment, best sound and actually some explanation. So good guys! Keep them coming!
Good to see Andertons daily .... it is becoming part of my daily routine ... keep up the good work !
This was the most sonicly pleasing video you have done to date. Bravo.
Nice job! Big fan of Incubus. And pretty much you gentleman did them proper. Well done!
I feel like the whole episode has been down pitched, weird
it has
Same here. I'm glad it wasn't just me.
I noticed that on the opening music wtf
Trying to avoid getting demonetized?
I just realized that, it sounds kinda trippy
Amazing sounds like guys, the tone you got for The Warmth was perfect. Thank you so much for adding that outtake at the end. Had me in tears.👍🏼
At this point I've come to expect the bloopers at the end. I wasn't disappointed!!
Amazing work guys. Getting goosebumps cos it's almost the same as the original. And the sound quality of this vid is top notch
Rabea can barely keep himself together haha. That's pure love for the music
Commenting until I get Soundgarden BY Busting or Bush without busting. Need to hear those Down on the Upside and King Animal tones if you guys come back to Soundgarden!
Commander Clyde yes especially because Ben beasted through King Animal
Took the words right out of my mouth. Uncanny. You guys rule.
To be fair most guitarists will agree that most of the Incubus sound is the bass and the groove. The guitars are there but a huge part of it is funky tight bass.
@1 2 I'm guessing you don't class bass as important.
YES!!! i've been waiting for this vid since the series started!!!! awesome job!!!
So good, I've been waiting for this one ever since I saw the without busting a couple of years ago. Well done.
Nice work on the bass Matt!:) With each episode, the feel in your playing increases (which is difficult for guitar players shifting to bass)
Bob Pijnenburg thanks man, appreciate that!
That was amazing. I'm gobsmacked. Definitely my favourite Sounds Like to date.
Loving the tones. Not only do they sound like incubus, but they're nice in their own right as well.
Please do sound like..
Thrice
Karnivool
Architects
Tesseract
Thank you for the outtakes. That laugh was contagious and made my day 😂
He uses Music Man live, he went almost full on Fender, being that mainly Jazzmaster and then Telecaster (surely he used Strats and some other stuff here and there). PRS is the 'classic' Incubus, Fender is the 'modern', if we split into pre and post Morning View. Mike and Rabea, that would be a duo to remember.
That first strum from Are You In and it was clear you nailed it
This was the best sounding one yet. That Mesa is fantastic sounding!
This was one of my favorite ones so far. Well done lads!!!
- Dad, why is my sister named Rose?
- Because your mother likes roses
- Thanks dad!
- You're welcome *INCUBUS BETWEEN 1997 AND 2001*
SD-Bassist lmfaoo
So true
Great video guys! Love Incubus :)
I’d really love to see you guys do a Sound like... of Failure. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards have such an incredible tone, and I’d love to be able to get within the ballpark!
Try mixing a jmp preamp mixed with a Russian muff into a fender dlx reverb
Well, this was the best you've ever done, congratulations lads! Also, one of the best outros ever, I'm crying at work :'''D
OH man that extra bit at the end killed me! Also my first tube amp was a single rectifier rectoverb so I am very interested in this tone.
I thought Matt was going to die of laughter in the outtakes. Brilliant!
That was awesome fellas - twas spot on and inspirational, my favourite so far ... Pulling out my old LPs for a blast as I type this ...
I mean you're kind of there, the warmth is actually a rotary speaker pedal for the intro. The chorus is a phase 90. The Mesa definitely sounds great though.

Great video guys! I Could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it was Mesa Tremoverbs mike used... used to have one, should of never got rid of it.
Rabea is such a great guitar player...Smooth.. Good job bro
Fleetwood Mac?
Lynyrd Skynyrd?
Cream?
STP?
pg era fleetwood mac, would be brilliant!
If they do Fleetwood Mac it’d be interesting to see if they do Lindsay Buckingham-era FM or early Fleetwood/Peter Green
The laughter at the end absolutely made my day hahahaha sounded great too
The end of the video is hilarious!!! 😂 Perfect "sound like" video!
i think you guys pretty much nailed it this time!
I'd love to see you try to sound like the Scorpions. those soaring leads on a budget might be a fun challenge!
I’ve waited for this one for sooo long
Simply amazing guys!!!! Really enjoy the humor and little extra's that you leave in 😂
I’m just gonna be that guy that keeps on saying Sound Like Dinosaur Jr./J. Mascis
Michael Cullen YES!
oh hell yeah!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one doing it 😂
I think it sounded amazing! Especially Are You In and Glass :D
It sounded heavenly. And great playing by Matt :-)
Circles was perfect! And the playing
In Flames is a good sound, would love to hear that
Keep coming back to this one and rewatching it. The best Sounds Like you've done and the end has me fuckin crying every damn time XD
YES!!! This is basic what I done as a teenager, had the same
Sharp pedalboard too!
Sounds absolutely class gents!
I would like to see both of you playing more . Matt is under rated and under exposed . good on you bois .
ps. Bea please Olla that prs for Paul .
I love how much fun these guys have! lolol Well done chaps!
Hey Andertons! I have an idea for you... What about starting a series of Sound like but with Multieffect units (Headrush, Helix, Kemper etc.) ??? It will be so awesome !
What a great sound so close to Mike's and great content you guys do
Really good stuff here. Mike played those thick PRS Archtop guitars during Morning View, but I think the Hollowbody II is a good compromise to cover most of their music.

Anyways it was a great Sounds Like! I'm looking forward to visiting the store in September :) .
PD: Rabea, you just nailed the Priceless riff dude!
DO PETER GREEN!!!!
or Lindsey Buckingham
Nah, Peter Green.
You guys freaking nailed this!
Frigging awesome job guys! Sounds very close and great playing :)
IMO best sounds like so far!
This was just uncannily close. Favourite one in ages.
