    Those original trees look like they would've been a nightmare to actually put together. They look like the pieces would constantly fall off, and when they do, it would be annoying to put them back on. I prefer more sparse trees that you can actually handle like a normal Lego set.

    In regard to the one bed per four figures, I think there are some places where ratios matter and some places where I don’t think people consider the implications of not doing things the way they are done. So for instance, in the at-te, which is a troop carrier, there is basically a full battle pack of troopers in addition to commander Cody and the battle droids. It’s a troop carrier, so it should hold quite a few troopers, including those that come with it and more. It’s normally a problem when that kind of set doesn’t hold the troops it comes with, if not more. I also think the ideas medieval blacksmith, with the one six stud wide bed can’t realistically hold both the husband and wife. Then again, whether it’s his wife is up to the owner of the set and the designers were excited about the techniques that made that bed look so good at that size. I’ve shifted my thinking a bit. There are still cases where I will say that limited capacity is a big problem, but this set is about what it makes you feel more than it is about how many figures it houses. Several figures can hang out in and around it, but it’s not necessarily supposed to sleep a large group. If it is, lego fans can build additional beds and put them in. But here were the designers choices:
    (1) We make the set so it has a bed for each minifigure. We want the set to look good, so we don’t want it to feel crowded, so instead of including four figures, we’ll include two figures and two beds.
    (2) we make the house feel cramped because it’s full of beds instead of fun details and features for the minifigures to enjoy when they are awake.
    I think that lego designers know that sleep is not the most important part of a play pattern and that for display purposes, there don’t need to be beds in every room. There just should be a bed so that you can imagine it being a realistic place minifigures would sleep.

  • @hazbinhotel5488
    @hazbinhotel5488 Год назад +8

    I like the new trees better for several reasons. Bushy dense trees are a specific type of conifer tree often found in northern regions around forest edges, lakes, or new growth forests. The branches and leaves on those trees almost always point UPWARDS. They are also evergreens meaning they stay GREEN. The new trees remind me of Douglas firs or other larger conifer trees that do have fewer branches. You would find these trees in an older forests WAY OUT in the wilderness, where a cabin like this would be. The new trees also don't have to be conifers at all, allowing designers to use the autumn colors in the original. This also helps explain fewer leaves...it's fall. For me it all makes total sense. The new trees are just a better fit for an A Frame cabin in my mind. I live in the USA and I know the types of forests we have where cabins exactly like this are found.

As i loved the idea of it being a rustic self sufficient styled cabin out in the wilderness. but the lego design is just so lifeless and now just feels like a modern weekend holiday rental where you would expect to see 3 or more of these built right next to each other in a holiday village. It's still a good set but it definitely took the wind out of the sails for me with all the modern changes.

    So their excuse is "Yeah we know Andrea came up with this story and idea and you all loved it but we don't care, we're doing our own thing"
    The old cabin in the woods away from modern day stuff is what people wanted. That's what they voted for. We already get enough "rich upper class family goes for a weekend" break sets from Lego City and Creator 3 in 1. And even if everyone's not into hunting, why did you have to make it modern? You could've just taken the hunting stuff out and made them foragers. If they wanted to do a getaway from home set, why didn't they just do that on their own instead of botching an existing idea to fit their preferences. Also the fact that they're laughing at the fans and making jokes like the post apocalyptic quip (when the set wasn't even meant to be that) rubs me the wrong way.

    • @NinjaHelpdesk

    The old one had a vibe that says “my great great granddad built this with nothing but his bare hands and a hatchet” and I loved that which is why I voted for it.

    The trees are fine in the final set, not as nice as the OG ones but still great. It’s the complete backstory and minifigure change I can’t stand. It’s gone from two brothers seeking out a more simple life in the woods, to being a weekend getaway for a bunch of swinging yuppies (there’s only one bed and 4 adult minifigures remember but I guess that’s why this is considered an 18+ set! 😂) in the original design, each brother had his own bed.

    The interview was insightful, but I am irritated by Justin’s flippant responses to the question of why they changed the style/tone of the set.
    His statements of “we didn’t change it that much, it’s still an A-frame Cabin!” and his mischaracterising the original- concept as a “post-apocalyptic hunters cabin” (lol, what?!) felt disdainful and patronising.
    I loved the rustic charm and idiosyncrasy of the original set and it’s two minifigures. To me, it completely embodied the rural escape/slow-life/digital-detox that the Lego team claim to have been aiming for. I wanted David Henry Theroux on Walden Pond vibes, not some shiny Creator 3-in-1 house party.
    Ultimately I accept the design team is always bound to change fan designs in some way, and I accept that. But don’t laugh at/talk down to the fans who voted for the original concept.

    Great interview, really enjoyed hearing their process in changing the original. I do like the new trees better, easier to put together and makes a vignette by itself. Thanks for this! Keep it up!

    5:10 That’s what bothers me. Every set they make they shouldn’t have to be hyper focused on pleasing every group of people. They should have gone with the vibe of the original but instead they feel the need to appease people who might not like too outdoorsy stuff I guess. Which makes me laugh

      @joevictor53 Год назад

      Exactly. The original is what people voted for. They didn't ask for a cabin in the woods that a rich family would go to for the weekend. That's the type of thing you'd expect to already get in Lego Creator 3 in 1. They ignored what people asked for and decided to do their own thing. If they wanted to do that, why even take on this set. Just make your own one and leave this one for someone else who could do it right

    Oh god I hate how out of touch the lego group is, they were litteraly laughing at us and making fun of our wishes, Hunter look? Post-apocaliptic theme? Are you even trying to look honest? That ideas set it's clearly a lumberjack cabin and everyone who voted for it wanted that aesthetic, We are tired of boring family sets, just do a remote cabin in the forest, there's nothing wrong with that!

    • @joevictor53
      @joevictor53 Год назад +1

      This right here. People voted for an abandoned cabin in the woods away from modern day life. They've made something that is not that different from what you get in a Creator 3 in 1 set just with more detail. That's not what people voted for

    • @NinjaHelpdesk
      @NinjaHelpdesk Год назад

      This. Why didn’t they just come out and call everyone who loved/voted for the original concept a bunch of hillbilly rednecks. Because it’s clearly what they think.

    Yeah i completely disagree its not any more about hunting. It felt like a rustic old cabin rather than a mass produced vacation home.
    You could literally remove any possible reference to hunting, make them total vegans, and still keep the old worn rustic feel. It was about the fact its an old handmade building.
    Idk why that sounds unappealing. I thought Europe loved their old buildings. I work in a museum for a rural mountainous area and we have a number of old log buildings that we've restored some are hunting cabins, some are just normal peoples houses, and some are luxury cottages, but all are rustic buildings.
    I think thats what they missed. They made it modern and clean and didnt give us the escapism from modernity that we wanted.
    I was excited for a set about two old men wearing fur coats in their ramshackle but loved cabin.
