    Thank you! I've taken lots of art classes, beginning back in the 1950s, if you can believe it. I've sold work in galleries large and small, but this is one of the best single lessons I've ever seen Alex. So many teachers, and artists, forget that, ideally, painting should be a joyful act. Watching you mix colors, and apply brush strokes is super interesting and helpful, Alex, as is the soothing and inspiring commentary. Would you mind telling us exactly what sizes of brushes and types of bristles you used here? Thank you!

    • @Alex_Teal
      @Alex_Teal  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, if you watch other videos, I always sign brushes, but here I seem to have forgotten, sorry. The size of the brush is taken based on the size of the canvas and the size of the object we are painting. I took the large brush just for fun, I had never seen this brand before and wanted to try it. To create the texture of the stroke, you need a flat brush made of natural bristles size 2, 3, 4 even 5. Size number 3 is 3 mm wide is like 1/8 inch if you are from the US. For small details, you can use flat synthetic 0-1, but if there is a bristle, you can use it, but the brush must be of high quality, as it wears out quickly.

      @@Alex_Teal that sounds exactly like the process I have to use to manipulate myself hahaha. Today may be the day. It's the last day off I have for a while, and I am fairly sure I have all the materials and a canvas ready to go....I've done a million acrylic paintings before, and have always, always, always, always wanted to do something in oils, but I always told myself that was for "serious people" and. just didn't need the headache for a home picture. More recently, after finding a whole bunch of oils on extreme sale, I found some of your videos after feeling like something Van Gogh would probably be a realistic first try. I really thought I was going to do Lemons on a Plate and had even done a study about the background that I was really, really happy with (but had done in acrylic since it had been about 20 years since I put a brush on a canvas), but I kept waiting. Finally, this particular way that you've presented this, from the first moment to the last (and I don't like cats and I will never like cats but that metaphor pointed out how ridiculous I'm being...it's just a picture), made me want to strike. Even if something stupid happens this morning and steals the day from me (we'll see), this picture is the one.
