    Demonstrating the use of this cutter as there is little to no information about it online.
    Quite a scary tool at first, but I don't use it very often and set up takes from 10 to 20 minutes, but for larger series of work it is very handy and very accurate for repeated dado grooves. Which in the end makes you work faster, and the dadoed box assembly is extremely solid. The cutters are expensive but the option to allow their use on the saw is not, so it's an option i recommend taking!

    Timothy, excellent video! As mentioned, Felder needs to up their game in their video department. Your skill (as well as your shop) have inspired me to purchase a CF 741 P for my new shop in the states, which I take delivery of this week. Felder should be paying you for advertising! Keep up the impressive work!

    Wow, that is an amazing table saw. I also love how quickly the blade stops spinning, as you described in other comments.

    Tim
    Thank you for the videos, I just put in a bunch of Felder tools and just get conferable with them.
    I got the Kappa saw, Profil 45, DC300, one of there band saws and edge sanders, and AD 941, so far I am liking them , A few issues to work out yet but very cool

    Very interesting to see the Felder in action. You only see those big sliding table panel saws in large cabinet shops in the US and they are usually SCMI. I've never seen a dado head used on one, not sure if they are equipped to allow.

      As i replied to Matthias legislation doesn't allow regular dado stacks on saws in Europe, this has to do with the quick braking of the blade which could unlock the nut with heavy stacked blades or cutters like this. Felder came up with a system that makes it impossible to unlock the nut with centrifugal force.

    Hi Timothy,
    Thanks for this video.
    I have a KF700 and am thinking about buying the Dado.
    Do you know how deep does it go into the groove?
    Thank you!

    FYI for hobbyists in Europe who may come across this video: while dado stacks are legally not allowed for regular table saws (Felder uses a special system that makes it legal) for security reasons (although you can still buy them from brands like CMT and use at your own risks), it is possible to buy thicker "groove" blades (4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm ...) and use them legally since they're a single blade. I've used those for many years on a European Dewalt DW 745 without any issues.
    Last time I bought a 6mm one from this place: rs-tools.nl/hm-groefzaag-o-180-x-6-mm-z-16.html

    So you have to pay extra to for a saw that can take a dado cutter?

    • @TimothyWilmots
      @TimothyWilmots  10 лет назад +4

      Hi Matthias, indeed it's an option but i haven't seen one without this option so i can't tell if the extra cost is only for the additional parts like the insert plate and the bigger lock disk. But i presume the arbor is different as well.
      In Europe using dado stacks like in north America is not permitted because the blades have to stop within a few seconds as you see on the video, and regular dado stacks could continue spinning if you braked them this fast.And the centrifugal force would try to unlock the arbor nut. Felder worked around this legislation by locking the cutter to the arbor with two rods, and also the "lock disk" that holds the tool on the arbor is held by these rods, so the braking of the cutters can't unlock that nut.

      Timothy Wilmots I have always wondered if Matthias Wandel ever gave a thought about having a Felder. At least I now know he's been looking at it. Maybe he'll buy a K700S for that huge workshop of his.

    • @mururoa7024
      @mururoa7024 6 лет назад +2

      Matthias would probably find the blue prints somehow and build a complete Felder from scratch using reclaimed wood and airco motors, instead of buying one. ;)

    We got a kf700s and the spacer you just removed after the blade doesn’t seem to be on our uk saw and seems as though it’s a one piece spindle ? Felder coming on Monday will add comment to say how we fixed this issue.

      Our Kf700s is the same - spindle seems all one piece. Did you find a solution..?

  • @fussydk
    @fussydk 10 лет назад +1

    Hi Timothy, that is a very nice solution, wish I could justify buying a felder saw, but I'm only a hobbyist :) Have you looked at the CMT grooving blades as an alternative, I'm considering buying one for my deWalt 745, not sure if it's a good idea?
    Anyway, i really admire your work!

    • @TimothyWilmots
      @TimothyWilmots  10 лет назад +1

      Hello, actually Hammer saws also have this option. it's a hobby range but still quite expensive. Couldn't afford those myself when it was just a hobby.
      I am using a regular 48T CMT blade on this saw now but i don't have a grooving blade of theirs. It's a cheaper alternative for sure but the width is fixed. Here you can see i adjust the cutters width to 1/10th of a mm to have the right fit.
      But for hobby use a groove blade wouldn't be a bad idea even if you have to make multiple passes. make sure though that it is allowed on your saw, these things are heavier than regular blades and would be dangerous in light saws.

    • @fussydk
      @fussydk 10 лет назад +1

      Timothy Wilmots Yes i looked at a Hammer as well. As far as i can read, only a standard 250mm blade is allowed on the dewalt, probably bacause the riving knife only fits that... I think I'll keep dreaming of a cabinetsaw while using my OF1400 on a track for dados for now. :)

      +Timothy Wilmots please see the above comments I made regarding the stacking dado set. It comes with a very good set of shims which provide for the minute adjustments you're describing.

  • @KK5LU
    @KK5LU 10 лет назад

    My Hammer is the cheaper [excellent and still expensive] version of the Felder. It comes with a factory mount for the dado blade, which itself costs so much, they have arranged with a U.S. maker to supply a less costly version. So you have two choices.

    • @ApexWoodworks
      @ApexWoodworks 8 лет назад

      Hey, +KK5LU, I'm not sure what you mean by your comment on the "factory mount", as virtually every cabinet saw's arbor here in North America and Europe is long enough to accommodate dado or trenching tooling. Here in Canada, the Felder distributor sells a stacking dado set made by Forrest, so perhaps that's what you're talking about when you're mentioning "a less costly version".

    • @TimothyWilmots
      @TimothyWilmots  8 лет назад +2

      +Marty Schlosser
      Hi Marty, in Europe it's not allowed to make arbors that are long enough to hold more than one blade. You can use old machines for private use but in a professional environment it is completely forbidden as it is dangerous in combination of the required blade brake.
      The Felder system worked around this by having two pins stick through the blades which prevent them from transferring brake energy to the arbor nut.
      If you don't have this then the brake energy will unscrew the arbor nut and the whole thing comes flying.

      Thanks for filling me in on how things are different in that regard.

    • @WelshRabbit
      @WelshRabbit 7 лет назад +1

      Excellent, Timothy. I had been under the impression that the tooling to accept dado cutters was only available for the North American versions of the saw. I presume that European users are supposed to use either a spindle shaper or router to cut dados. According to my Felder rep, the dado tooling is an option for sale in the USA, and I certainly want to get it if and when my piggy bank has sufficient funds for a 700 series Felder combo machine.

      Louis Ferney Sorry about the delay, i didn't get a notification from youtube.
      This is the 12-20mm cutter, it comes with a set of special shims that have 8 holes. I recently also bought the smaller 6,3 to 12mm cutter. Both from the silent power range, and not the slightly cheaper Hammer version, this version has a bit more range in widths

    May i ask where you got the wooden zero insert plate for the Felder? Does anyone sell those??

    • @TimothyWilmots
      @TimothyWilmots  9 лет назад +2

      The wooden one in this video was supplied by Felder, it comes with the saw when you have that cutter option.
      But since making this video i made my own wooden insert for use with a normal blade as well, the original plastic insert leaves too much open space between around the blade.
      I made it with a piece of beech plywood planed to exact thickness, the Felder one is also beech.
