      @Arjay404 8 лет назад +19

      +Appaloosa Hill I don't remember my exact thinking when I wrote that, but seeing as I did know that Napoleon wasn't really short, it probably wasn't that, think I was thinking more about Napoleon underestimating the Russian when he invaded, similar to what Hitler did hundred and fifty years after him.

    • @MrCh0o
      @MrCh0o 6 лет назад

      It might be also about how certain people were planning to use Napoleon as a tool for getting the power, but instead he acquired it.

    • @martindouge4504
      @martindouge4504 6 лет назад +4

      Napoleon was depicted short as some French-hate (something that hasn't really decayed since apparently). I mean, it's understandable though, he got almost all of Europe under his foot for a few years with some really aggressive war tactics.
      For the Russian defeat, there's also the fact that it started to get far away from France and he was relying on military that was either fresh or recruited by force during his conquests. Unlike the popular trope, he obviously didn't attack Russia in winter. You don't conquer an entire continent by making stupid decisions like that.

      @@freakrx2349 Uhhhh...no. I think you mean that it wasn’t used as the administrative language in Theodora’s time. And you’d be correct. However Greek was Theodora’s mother tongue, so it’s perfectly reasonable for them to show her speaking it here. Especially since Greek was normally used for diplomacy because it was more widely understood outside of the Empire than Latin. Finally, Greek was the language of religion in the Empire, so it was also the most commonly learnt second language. Anyone with any education could be expected to at least hold a conversation in Greek.

      I agree, it IS interesting. In Arabic language we also have the same word. It's spelled like this: Kahen كاهن ( one person) Kahana كهنة (two or more people)

      +GreyGreenEyes So Sacha Baron Cohen is a priest originally??? *Mind blown*

    • @GreyGreenEyes
      @GreyGreenEyes 9 лет назад

      That is at least what one of his family names mean. But that's super common last name among Jewish community.

    • @judekanawati7467
      @judekanawati7467 8 лет назад

      The last names Kohen or Cohen can possibly be the same. Most of the people with these names are originally jews but live in different countries. Sometimes these people change the spelling of their last names to not confuse it with other names. There's John, which it's spelling changed to Jon. It's just a guess

    Generals like Buddica, Harald, Napoleon or even Attila acknowledge when you've been able to match up to them in war. That's really heartwarming. I wish they would stop being so aggerssive even afterwards. We could be pals, conquer the world with our huge armies.

    Do they all have just one line of dialogue for peace?
    Some seem to specificly talk as if you started the war, and ended it early.
    Some seem to say something that hints like they tried to fight you and lost.
    Some seem to indicate they won the war (the AI will allow peace after gaining a certain advantage. depending on their personality. aka: half your empire, before they will accept your surrender)
    Etc etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they have several lines of dialogue. depending how the war started and its state (win, lose, tie) when the peace was agreed.

    Hello there. I'm a native Arabic speaker and I wanted to correct something in Ramesses' translation. He doesn't say "perfumes" me, he actually says overwhelms me or, overcomes me. (eg. But a feeling of generosity overwhelms me)
    Good job on the rest of the translations though!

      This. Modern Nahuatl is influenced by Spanish and uses the -tl suffix less, while Akkadian is the language that Ashurbanipal speaks as well, although with an Assyrian dialect. The two are no doubt pretty minor languages and so no wonder that the video creator couldn't get anyone to translate it for them. Although I do wonder, since Ashurbanipal has subtitles, why couldn't the native speaker (I'm assuming it was a native speaker) translate Nebuchadnezzar's line as well? Perhaps the Babylonian dialect is too different from the Assyrian one.

    Montezuma: "Curses! I will sacrifice ten thousand citizens to expiate this humiliation!"
    Nebuchadnezzar II: "Foolish, foolish - letting me live."
    Haile Selassie: "Today is the day of victory over our enemy. Our heart and soul is satisfied. Think about the situation. Believe in our nation as it is very important."
