The D in ADHD meaning disorder and the D has its own criteria. To meet the criteria for any disorder those things have to cause a significant amount of difficulty on a regular on going basis.
this is outdated view and soon will be replaced
@@petralea i don't think so. Thats from the DSM-5 bro.
@@Sarcasmarkus u know that dsm is being updated on regular basis and is evolving right?
@@petralea right, they don't usually throw something out completely, they add to the models and reclassify things, except being gay, that used to be classified as a mental health thing but the science shows otherwise, so that is gone. The part of ADHD being a disorder is far more basic than the spicific details of the diagnostic criteria. They lumped psychopath and sociopath together under antisocial personality disorder because for the vast majority of clinicians, the difference isn't that important, once they know the person is super dangerous, there's no point in them analyzing further. And autism became a spectrum and aspurgers was found out by science to be on that spectrum. The DSM-5 doesn't list ADHD as a spectrum even though its currently concidered as such. but no one is trying to get ADHD reclassified as not even being a disorder except the internet trolls and the religious whack-a-doo's.
The neurotypes model is apt for a lot of people because a lot of people who are "just a little on the spectrum" or people with "just a little ADHD" can function fairly well and even excell in certian environments, however outside of those contexts not quite so much.
Disorder doesn't mean a person is broken, it means not functioning optimally, or not functional well.
See the whole autism high support needs vs low support needs thing, its analogous to ADHD folks, except ADHD folks who really struggle are still seen as a joke by a lot of people. They're seen as lazy, undisciplined, impulsive A wholes, when in reality if you're really ADHD and really well disciplined to cope with your environment, it means you pay your bills and get stuff done but for some reason you're always cronically burnt out or even depressed.
@@Sarcasmarkus it is normal, what we know is evolving, sometimes it is political but there will be always a new theory (evwn though they are trying hard to make it epiric science... ). They also looped aperger and autiam together. Adhd is profitable disorder while asd is not as much. I have a issue with not functioning optimally, bc you in fact can function optimally with adhd even asperger, it all depends on your othwr conditions like environment, income, trauma (resolved/unresolved), available support, health, etc.
ADHD also presents during peri-menopause and menopause for women.
