Your review is spot on. I've had this model for a couple of years, and i use it on my downstairs, which has laminate and a large, thin area rug. It does an excellent job on these. I use the mop feature minus the area rug, and it performs really well. I do have to pick up all my door mats, or it will get stuck, and the mop pad tends to dry out. I pre-wet the pad before using and wet it again during cleaning once or twice. Overall, if you can't afford a Roomba, etc, this is a really great option for hard floors! The reviews take a hit online because of customer service. I ordered replacement filters and was sent the wrong ones. I emailed their listed cs address, and a real person asked me to send a pic of what i received, then they sent the correct filters at no cost. This little unit just goes to show how overpriced some of the others can be.
I've owned the ILife V5 pro for about three years. It's a pretty good vacuuming robot at an exceptional price, but it's not very good at vacuuming carpets or mopping. I paid about $125 and for that price it's better than expected. It does a very good job on my tile floors downstairs and my laminate floors upstairs. I have two long haired retriever dogs. It is the only vacuum robot I've used that successfully picks up all their fur and doesn't get tangled up in it every time. Due to the lack of a center brush, the cleaning and maintenance is much easier on the ilife V5 pro than any other vacuum robot I've used. I will admit, however, the mopping function is terrible. The main suction motor is not activated during the mopping function, and it rolls so slowly that it often strikes an object with not enough force to trigger the front bumper. Because of that it will sit in the same spot letting water drip onto the floor until the water bin is empty and you have a sizable puddle underneath the vacuum. This could be disastrous on laminate flooring, so I recommend never using the mopping function if you have laminate or wood flooring. It also has difficulty finding its way back to the base if it's in another room, but so does every other vacuum robot I've used, even the much more expensive older model Roomba and Neato vacuums. It fairly often gets stuck on cords, bathroom rugs, and the base of my stand fan too. Unlike another reviewer, I have not had any problems with it falling off stairs. I have an ilife V5, non pro model I use in my upstairs bedroom and it never falls down the spiral staircase. perhaps that's because the metal staircase is painted black and it can easily see the edge. Some of these vacuuming robots have difficulty with lighter-colored surfaces. I do have to prep my house every time and block off areas it will get stuck, like the bathroom. Even though it does have a few problems, it is still well worth the money, especially if you have long haired pets. The ease of cleaning by not having to remove pet hair around a center brush every time and the effectiveness of its pick up of long fur makes it a good buy if you don't mind doing a little prep work.
I've been using the V5 since it first came out. I am currently on my 3rd one. It is really good at what it is good at and really bad everything else. However, because of the price and its exceptionally good suction I am willing to tolerate the poor performance in other areas. Pros: 1) Think of it more like a dry swiffer/dust pan. It works really, really well on hard surfaces (especially with pet hair: we had a husky and it collected ALL of her hair). 2) Price 3) Super easy to maintain; next to no tangles from my long haired wife and daughter and it collects more dust than you would think possible (buy extra Hepa-styled filters and mopping pads because they will eventually clog with dust even if you clean them). 4) Battery life is longer than advertised. Brand new, all three of mine lasted well over 2hrs (which is necessary because the navigation is poor). The four year old non-Pro model still runs for an hour. 5) Small enough to fit under most elevated furniture. Cons: 1) Don't even pretend to use it on carpet; it won't work and if the mop pad is attached the friction from the carpet will expose the velcro attachments and fill them with debris making the velcro tape useless for the mop pad and then you'll have to replace the velcro tape. 2) Lot's of room preparation: Gets stuck easily and isn't clever enough to shut off or navigate out of a tight space. Gets stuck on floor mats, cords, shoe laces, tight spaces, some incline surfaces such as a fan base or room transitional pieces. The original (non-professional) V5 had a known systemic issue with the mop feature continuing to drip after the robot stalled and pooled water. Consequently, I don't trust it and haven't used the drip container feature even after the V5 made it to the Pro's. However, if you wet the pad before you run the robot, the dry mop works really well. 3) It WILL attempt suicide if you have stairs. Likewise, you have to physically block it from going to areas you don't want it in.
As a Mexican I can say that it is just what we need in many of the Mexican houses that do not have laminate flooring or carpet, which is the majority. Yo tengo una de estas y les digo que es muy efectiva.
Great video review. Just got my iLife V5 Pro. Saw a lot of positive reviews and high star rating on Amazon and cost me nearly nothing since I used gift card from work. My place is 90% hardwood and I enjoy not having to vacuum/sweep every other day! I havent used the mop feature yet. Watched this video and know i should roll up some rugs which shouldnt be an issue. Thanks again for the video, very informative!
Great review!! After navigating youtube for a while for info on this unit, your review is the best out there, hands down! Thanks for taking the time to come up with a well made, comprehensive review we can all benefit from. Please keep the reviews coming and expand to other products. You definitely got my attention.
Love specialised robots, this vacuum would be a dream for pet owners in bare floor homes with just a few throw rugs about as you said. We bought really flat robot vac in called a uHappy [lol shenzen], has an open port but it's party trick is it's height is 3cm[!] and has a roach mode provided by it's height sensor. No more dragging out furniture, the thing fits even under our fridge XD... however it makes Ilife's seem like all arounders its so restrictive beyond that. Carpets, lol forget it, it just goes around.
i just bought the v5s pro because i have a dog and no carpet. Thank you for the advise... I was planning to buy a 200-300 robot until i saw your videos
@@peacefrog0521 yes im satisfied, but the overall quality is bad. After 1 month it couldnt charge itself and i have to charge it directly with the cable. And the plastic mount for the mop broke pretty easily. Nevertheless, the main function which is cleaning my house from pet hair is acomplished. It cleans really really well and can be working for many hours
Thank you so much, your reviews are the best, you observe like a scientist. I watched a couple of your videos and bought Ilife V5 pro because I have no carpet.
akshay shetty hi, still doing great, with 3 hours battery. It should work only 1 hour, but mine is good for 3 hours. Maybe because i have all the floor, ceramic

I bought ILIFE V5s Pro Robot Vacuum Cleaner last month from amazon & it stopped working now. Though warranty is mentioned for a year but Customer care of Ilife is pathetic & not responding, anyone can suggest on how to get this faulty machine replaced.
So you also go duped by Ilife, you can try everything, ILife will not respond. I tried reaching seller to customer care to organization manager but nothing worked out.
I second on this, bought ILIFE V5s Vacuum Cleaner last month & it started working intermittently, had a feel that it will be dead in next few weeks. As mentioned, customer care of ILife is useless & don’t respond. Even checked with amazon, they also sound helpless.
Motherboard of ILIFE Vacuum Cleaner bought two months ago got corrupted. There is no customer care in ILife, when complained about motherboard damaged, they talk about charging, absolute waste. 18k went into drain.
Taking cues from positive feedback on youtube, bought this ILIFE V5s Pro Robot Vacuum Cleaner this year & it stopped working in less than 6 months with no response from seller on warranty & repair.
Love your review. Thank you, I have hard floors and this video is amazing with the pros and cons. 2 additional cons are that it actively avoids cleaning near the base most of the time and that long hair tends to get tangled in the 2 side brushes. But the 2 brushes are great at trapping more dust, especially in the corners like you've mentioned so I guess it evens out. Also, I've used a switchbot IR blaster to schedule cleanings multiple times a day (since with the remote you can schedule for only once a day) and control the robo vac with my phone. it works well provided that it's in range of the IR blaster.
Hi I have this v5s pro since 2 years and all you say is right. This vacuum is perfect with my 2 hair's pet. The big cons if I didn't prepare well rooms this vacuum easy stuck on carpet, in some angle something stuck in some pet toys.. But I think is really good cheap vacuum my best deal of 2017. it's a extremely specialised machine... if you have pets and bare floors it is an excellent machine. However not being smart navigation nor much good on carpets due to its port. yeah it's not a rival for high end Roombas, or Roborocks, Neatos or Deebots for that matter. Like my little squatbot uhappy, it is a speciality machine made to do fewer jobs better.

Are you ever going to to a review on the bissell smart clean robot vacuum?
Really great review, thank you!
You're very welcome!
NOOOOOO I’m a roomba fan boy and I didn’t watch the other video yet they beat the roomba :c
it's a extremely specialised machine... if you have pets and bare floors it is an excellent machine. However not being smart navigation nor much good on carpets due to its port.
yeah it's not a rival for high end Roombas, or Roborocks, Neatos or Deebots for that matter. Like my little squatbot uhappy, it is a speciality machine made to do fewer jobs better.
I like your vidios
Thanks, I like your name! (same as mine)
Difference between v55 vs v5 pro?
Does it come with “walls”?
