Thanks! Yep about an hour on the ground then headed back up to Heathrow. This was back when the A380s were being reintroduced post covid so BA flew them to Madrid and Frankfurt to retrain the crew
@@JTsJourneys Hi Jamie, we got back last night. Really great crew, as we had the same crew member as yourself who gave us the same tour and also let us have a seat in the cockpit after landing. Our children even got to test checking the lights on the A380. The crew member's name was Jordan, really helpful and welcoming.
I flew back from Jo Burg on this bird G-XLEF, was lovely as usual ( mind you being in seat 2A does make a difference! ). PS best loo on the plane, upper deck right at the front right hand side, it's HUGE.
Well actually once you have had dinner - you just kinda exist on there, especially if it is dark outside, which most of the time it is on fights to and from SA.
It is strange - especially as I bet flying across the African continent during daylight must give some of the best views from a plane. I'm off to Cape Town again in Nov for a week and taking the earlier flights so hopefully get more daylight hours. Booked on the A350's in Club World. I will spit if I don't bag a window seat. Right now BA want around £100 each way to book a seat! on top of the CW fare....greedy pigs.
I'm glad someone's taken the time to document their trip like this! You've definitely earned my sub! Intending on doing this flight next week to finally fly the A380. My question though is, how was the turnaround in Madrid, and did you have any paperwork issues as you were doing a turn and burn? I'm intending on going into Madrid for a few hours, but just curious on what it was like with such a short time! Many thanks & great work :)
Thanks so much for the comment :) the turnaround was pretty easy really. Straight off the gate was the connections lane, which took about 5 mins to re clear security after scanning my boarding pass (I had to use the VeriFLY app before hand to make sure I received my return boarding pass) and then I was right back into the terminal to depart, total gate to gate time was no more than 15 mins, and I stayed on T4S, so no need to travel to the main terminal building.
@@JTsJourneys Ahh excellent! You’ve answered all my concerns ☺️ Somehow I’ve never actually done a ‘connecting’ flight before! Thanks so much for the help and tips! You’re a star! Going on Iberia (for fun) and back with BA. Not sure if that’ll make a difference or not…
@@JTsJourneys at the moment it’s the 330. Been on one before so I’m hoping for a lat minute change to the 350 for a double whammy! Decided I’m going into Madrid for the day (3 hours I reckon) for some food and drink, so still no connecting flight process for me!
Great video Jamie, really enjoyed that. BA crew brilliant as always. I was thinking about doing one of these short haul trips myself - possibly to Frankfurt but I’m booked in club world next May out to LAX in 53K upstairs, so i can wait until then. I’m glad you were able to film upstairs though which has kind of whetted my appetite a bit more now! PS, didn’t realise you hadn’t been in business before - bet it won’t be your last now! Nice one mate 😊👍
Thanks Mark! Oh wow, that will be a great trip over to LAX! I'm sure you'll have a great time! It certainly has, hopefully I'll get the opportunity to fly Business again soon :)
Brilliant Jamie, your videos just keep getting better and better mate!! I really hope you get more subscribers, you deserve a lot more. Great that you finally got to fly on the A380. I'm sad to say that I've never been on one myself, I've just never had the opportunity. Maybe one day. 😊
Great video! What a beautiful airplane to say the least. I am flying for the first time internationally from Dallas to Venice and we have business class seats. We were told that first class was trending out and business class was the new “norm” that was from our travel agent. I guess the first class and business class were very similar but different than economy? Thanks so much please comment as this is our first “real vacation”
The first vs business very much depends on the airline. American airlines for example are removing international first in favour of a bigger business cabin. If you compare European first there’s a different ‘standard’ between Air France and BA as an example, which again is different to the Middle Eastern carriers. On the a380 there’s a step change between the two on BA, the seats are worlds apart and the service will be that extra step up along with food and overall experience. Have a great trip!
Great question. I suspect it will come once the fleet plans have been firmed up and the aircraft go through their next major checks. No idea when that might be though

Really good report and the excellent tour at the end!
Thanks Malcolm! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Class as always Jamie - absolutely quality trip report and a nice touch by the Cabin crew at the end there!
Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it :) Working on the return report now, which I'll release next weekend
Nice vid! Love watching your trip reports. I’m heading on the A380 to Madrid in business on the 27th November! Really can’t wait!
Thanks! Have an amazing trip! Get to Heathrow nice and early and make the most of the lounges! Which seat are you in?
Great video Jamie, what a nice crew as well!! Cheers! 👍

Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
very good vid and report, nice of the crew to take the time to show the aircraft
Thanks! Yes it was really great of them, I've never had a bad BA crew!
Can't wait to see them back on Transatlantic flights. I also went on this registered plane to Los Angeles in September 2019
Starting soon I think!
