This is something that hit me hard. Never in the history of Avatar have we watched a man take his final breath only to express how inadequate he felt. Avatar is something people of all ages could watch and enjoy. The developers really outdid themselves.
Can you guys answer this? I don't get which portal is which, just started watching the show and also, didn't Wan close the spirit portal so the spirits can't go to the human world? Then why are spirits in the human world in Korra's time, good and evil?
There are two portals. An entrance to the spirit world, and and exit. Yes Wan did close the portal but Korra being the Avatar decided that it was time for humans to get along with the spirits so that there would be no animosity between them, so she re-opened the portal to the spirit world, letting spirits run free throughout the world. Turned out to be a bad idea.
But there were spirits before she opened the worlds, are both the portals the same, both the north and south or go out of the spirit world or just enter the spirit world?
I believe both enter into the spirit world. Yes there were spirits before she reopened the portals but they hadn't really had contact with humans since Avatar Wan's time.
I wish this lasted two seconds longer so you can see the fade to black but also hear a baby cry. I think it was a cool symbolization to have the cry after his death.

It's just too perfect: the dialogue, the voice actors, the ambience, the music, the animation, old Wan's character design... a masterpiece of a scene
You know that if this wasn't on Nickelodeon, Wan would be Boromir'd full of arrows. I think that's what's meant to be understood without actually showing it.
Yep. The fact that Wan is on on a Battlefield and in full armor likely means he was killed in battle. But Nickelodeon can't have dozens of arrows stuck into their characters nor can they have blood gushing from their wounds.
FinalLugiaGuardian idk Nickelodeon had tmnt 2012 in which shredder killed splinter in the season three finale even though there was no blood, but you can see the blade going through splinter.
It hurts me how Wan could never fathom the good he would bring through all 83 of his lifetimes... he died thinking himself a failure but history remembers him as a legend
It's an amazingly well written dialogue that works so well. Gives me chills everytime she says that line. And on top of that, the actress has a voice that sounds so angelic and fierce and works perfectly for her role as Raava.
Bubbleshima - Michelle exactly! that's reincarnation. All the Avatars are the same person. Wan is the person whom they were all originally were. Every last one of the Avatars are really just Wan as a new person. They are not seperate people, they're all the same soul. They aren't new versions of the ones that came right before. They are all Wan.
Bubbleshima - Michelle All the Avatars are different. Raava is what connected the Avatars with the skills and knowledge of all their previous lives when they are in the Avatar State. That is how Avatar Aang was able to water bend although he hadn’t learned that skill when he fell into the water. The reincarnation cycle of the Avatar allows Raava to already be fused with the next human in the cycle without needing to wait for harmonic convergence. The connection to the past Avatars was broken with Korra . If you think of every reincarnation being an extension of Wan, all the following Avatars would act like Wan in a different body. We know the Avatar State doesn’t require a connection with past lives and the cycle will continue because the process started with Wan.
Allow me to quote what Raava herself said in this video: "Don't worry, we will be together for all of your lifetimes." She didn't say: "Don't worry, I will fuse with another person and continue the fight." Raava is an ancient and immensely powerful spirit, she would most certainly know the true nature of the avatar cycle and would have no reason to lie to Wan. So while yes, all avatars have differences (but are actually very similar when you compare them properly), that does not mean they are not the same person. Indeed, you almost certainly act very differently to how you did 10 or 20 years ago, yet you are the same person. Wan = Aang = Korra. They are all the same person, they are all Wan. Raava confirms this in a way that leaves no room for interpretation.
Bubbleshima And now all future avatars will be reincarnations of Korra, since she is the new first Avatar, having her connection to her past lives now severed and beginning anew.
@@devonthomas8750 You obviously wasn't listening when raava said she'll be with him throughout all his lifetimes. Do you not know what reincarnation means?
The last Avatar would be an Avatar that has finally brought the true and impossible balance in the world. They would reach The Iroh level of Spiritual Balance in themselves.
It makes you think about how the action of one man have inadvertently created the longest line of humanity's greatest protectors. If it was not for wan there would be no avatar to defeat the firelord and bring back the air nation etc.
At the end of the day the avatar is mainly just a symbol of unity. I'm doubting he can defeat an army by himself. Without his friends the EK would have still been destroyed by the other firebenders. I think the lesson is everyone needs to constantly be working towards real balance. One man no matter how powerful can fix everyone's problems.
Korra was Wan’s last reincarnation; Korra went through a fresh Harmonic Convergence and a fresh fusing with a recovered Raava, but her connection to the previous cycle remained severed. A new cycle has begun, and the earthbender that follows Korra will be HER reincarnation, not Wan’s. All future Avatars will be reincarnations of Korra.
Imagine the second avatar, the world thinking Wan's era is gone, then going years before discovering that there's another person who can bend more than one element.
The beginning of the reincarnation cycle and start of a epic story and that darkness will always fall to the light and can never overpower those who fight for what's right
A pretty sad way to die. He spent his life as the Avatar trying to stop chaos and war. You can call him a hero but he must've been greatly unhappy throughout most of it.
Yes. He had no family, and I'm sure he wanted a family just like Aang. When Aang found out he was the avatar, he refused to be believe so because he wants a family of his own.
@@katelynnlee5158 lol that wast the reason why aang was upset he was the avatar. Aang was 12 years old at the time surrounded by males. With those surroundings kids his age arent thinking about starting a family. Aang just didnt want the responsibility that comes to being the Avatar and add to the fact he was starting to get rejected by his friends
@@ernestogastelum9123 exactly aang was just a pacifist who didn't want the responsibility of being an avatar which is fair but at the same time he needed to accept it
I love the fact that the making of the first avatar was an active human choice - multiple active human choices in fact. Wan wasn't chosen at the whims of the spirirts to fufil a destiny of their chosing, he took every step with full intent. He became the avatar because of who he was, not the other way around.
This exact scene makes me wish we got a series of Wan. Aang brought peace and spent his life unifying a fractured world, Korra is still living her life. But Wan never finished his goal. He didn’t have any long lineage or history to learn from, he was the foundation for those that came after. His origins and his death are such a contrast to the avatars we followed that I can’t help but want to see more, even knowing how it would end
Which is why i want the second avatar lifetime to see how him or her dealt with new world order wan created and before nations and kingdoms were formed
This scene always gets to me. Wan lying down just seconds away from death thinking that he failed but in reality he can’t end worldly problems for good. While one avatar can deal with a conflict in their lifetime it doesn’t mean the world will always be in balance because world conflict happens all the time. He and Raava did the world a favor by creating the existence of the avatar cycle.
Taking her initial disdain towards Wan into account, hearing Raava's gentle words of comfort and reassurance never cease to send some feels through me...
The world ain’t perfect Wan but Aang and Korra did their part to ensure both the human and spirits to be in harmony. You may be gone forever Wan but you didn’t fail
Wan is trapped in an eternal purgatory. His reincarnations will forever have to pay for his mistake of letting Vaatu out. Imagine spending lifetime after lifetime fighting against evil and chaos. He redeemed himself, but his redemption was bittersweet.
Well korra sorta freed him from that burden now after the connections was lost Korra essentially is the first all over again and has to live throughout the future lifetimes
I heard a dude complain about this story saying it ruined the magic of the avatar when it added depth to the avatar the only actual issue with this plot was it went through all that explination just to erase all the past avatars and not bring them back
The thing is tho, i like that korra has to deal with these consequenses, instead of just hitting a rewind button. Also, another thing, her connection is gone but its left open if the past Avatars are gone from the world.
@@AndereundIch well i feel like she's had too many permanent losses and that shouldve been the only thing they brought back maybe later down the line like maybe when korra got over her PTSD it like fixed her and rava's spirit and she regained connection too the old avatars

@@Elay-tulc ya that person is kinda screwed. I mean the world in chaos. And remember Aangs ordeal about keep his air bending ideals but they clash with duties of the avatar
I’ll admit This scene made me cry because it shows his struggles were all for nothing and then the avatar cycle continues for the next person’s responsibility to take what wan started
Ok...don't cry you are a grown man... ..... ..... 😭😭😭 We should have seen a lot more of him in 'The Legend of Korra'... Sadly the Story was short. 😔 A beautfiul show with beautiful scenes and music. People all ages can learn from it. Greets to All people around the world. 🙏🌍❤
Man this is just so scary seeing Wan die like this thinking the world was all about to end thinking he had failed and having defeat in his voice is just thinking he had failed Ravva and humanity as a whole but it also makes sense because you kind of Realize that there is always chaos and things like wars and fighting that is a part of the world. You kind of understand that you can’t not always stop it and that is a good message coming from this.
You know what i love about this? The design. Look at his armour, it looks like it has a history, you can see a style made from an unknown nation much before the four nations lived together in peace and harmony, it has patterns and marks that's probably from Wan"s personality. This has so much book material.
Each piece of his armor has a different design (possibly from different factions), similar to his attire when he battles Vaatu. I think it symbolizes Wan's status as someone who protects all factions yet not belonging to any. His armor is battered as well (no head or lower body protection), he's probably killed in battle but LoK is technically a kids show so that can't be show. This scene hits way harder in a rewatch.
Even in 2023 this scene is still sad. It’s even sadder when you realize that there’ll never be enough time. No matter how many times the avatar reincarnates, there’ll always be some sort of darkness in the world… 😢
A lot of people considered this death sad, but I don't see it that way. Imagine dedicating your life to something, coming up short, but then being reassured that your work will be taken up by others until the end of humanity, and you get to help and provide guidance along the way. His moments leading up to his death may have been full of regret, but Rava's final words set his soul at peace.
After sealing Vaatu and saving the world, Wan deserved a happy life and start a family. Even in his final moments he still felt the guilt of the mistake he made all those years ago when he freed Vaatu from Raava 😭
Wan is my favorite character in the Korra series. I like to imagine what kind of advice he would have given Aang before he faced the Fire Lord. My guess is Wan would have told him about the Lion Turtles and energybending, as he had witnessed first hand how they bestowed and took away bending.
I’m actually incredibly intrigued as to the actual battle that took place here Like how it started, the reason, how it proceeded, all the major and minor players, the lead up to it, the end, everything It would’ve been awesome to see how it all happened

pablogood5 that relationship was the most forced thing I've ever seen, I definitely like it better than Mako cuz mako fucking blows, but Asami and Korra had 0 romantic moments until the last second of the show, they definitely should've worked on that previous to the ending for me. The romance in this show really almost all of it was horrible besides Opal & Bolin. I like Korra and the show stands on its own apart from ATLA, but this season and the 1st I was not a fan of her as a person whatsoever. She does grow well later on though.
This scene is so sad, it shows an avatar in sorrow, cuz Wan is about to die and Raava was always there with him, I almost cry because in my mother language that's get more sad than usual
I always criticized TLOK without giving it a try… 8 years later and I saw this gem of an episode with probably one of the most badass endings I’ve ever seen in a show.
Tbsh I get mad when ppl don't appreciate Avatar Wan's story and say that Aang's is better. They're both human. They make mistakes, but Korra on the other hand. I'm still mad about her losing to every foe and erasing the past avatars. Now she's the "first" avatar in cycle unless the next avatar can bring the past avatars back.
I think that kinda shows the realism though he was under appreciated in this lifetime cause people didn't understand his purpose like in Aang era or Roku the world became more accepting of the avatar
I wanna see what the next avatar after wan did in their lifetime. In this scene it feels like Wan failed at bringing peace just like he said and probably reincarnated into a air nomad to try again to bring peace which he failed in this scene. Seeing the next avatar reliving Wan life after what he did after vaattu was locked away. Also to see how the four nations develop and learning some avatar lores. I need a whole series after wan death.

Nah. His animal guide died and he died of a broken heart.
It hurts me how Wan could never fathom the good he would bring through all 83 of his lifetimes... he died thinking himself a failure but history remembers him as a legend
I mean technically he was living inside all of the other avatars so he kinda experienced them
How do you know there are exactly 83 Avatars?
@RadioTSM {Operator Teddy Timis} How? We've never seem all the Avatars at the same time.
Its about 180 cuz in the an episode at an air temple we see all the statues
@@Roenie. you counted them all?
There's just something about that last line, "... and we will never give up." Idk why but everytime I hear it, it just shakes me to my core.
It's an amazingly well written dialogue that works so well. Gives me chills everytime she says that line. And on top of that, the actress has a voice that sounds so angelic and fierce and works perfectly for her role as Raava.
Because the human race deep inside knows to never give up against the forces of negativity
Bro I cry every time I listen to that part
It’s kinda crazy to me to think all the avatars are really wan reincarnated... like Korra isn’t really a reincarnation of aang but rather wan instead
Allow me to quote what Raava herself said in this video: "Don't worry, we will be together for all of your lifetimes."
She didn't say: "Don't worry, I will fuse with another person and continue the fight."
Raava is an ancient and immensely powerful spirit, she would most certainly know the true nature of the avatar cycle and would have no reason to lie to Wan.
@@devonthomas8750
You obviously wasn't listening when raava said she'll be with him throughout all his lifetimes.
Do you not know what reincarnation means?
I deeply appreciate having an understandable explanation as to how the Avatar came to be.
It’s not only a kickass backstory, but a believable one.
My favorite episodes from Korra. Even years later, his death and his last words still give me goosebumps.
The First Avatar. .... man that was deep.
I wonder who will be the last avatar
@@wolfsbanealphas617 korra is the last one
Well the only reason the air nation was actually destroyed was because sozin feared the avatar
Well, Wan's the only reason there was a Firenation in the first place.
Rava: I will be with you through all your lifetimes... or until I dragged out, and have them beaten out of me. But what are the chances of that?
Boss Umbra That is utterly hilarious

WAN never dies just reborn in a new body
Well technically now he's free from the burden since Korra is by herself now and the future avatars has to look at her
@@sparknazo Sort of? Not really? Korra is still Wan’s reincarnation regardless if the actual connection was severed
@@cpegg5840 true he can now rest in the spirit world
@@cpegg5840 that's weird because if Korra is Wan's reincarnation than does that mean her reincarnations are Wan's reincarnations?
Imagine the second avatar, the world thinking Wan's era is gone, then going years before discovering that there's another person who can bend more than one element.
The beginning of the reincarnation cycle and start of a epic story and that darkness will always fall to the light and can never overpower those who fight for what's right

The background music plus the scene hits me hard. Too beautiful!
i just disvovered that if you look at zuko alone from book 2 hes riding past where Wan died :D
yea i think ur right, or maybe it was a battle between the earth benders and fire nation in the 100 year war?
OMG that's impressive how you caught that:)
Pepsi Park i was rewatching it with a friend and i spotted it :D
I noticed that this place was kinda similar to where Zuko was wandering
d f THIS! I knew I wasn't the only one to have noticed that!
O Wan, there never is enough time, not matter how many lifetimes you have, darkness will always surround us, since it works to purify light.
This scene made me cry, all he wanted to do was to bring peace into that world, this is such a sad way to die all alone :( i feel so bad for him..
Two episodes and he managed to go through a lot and be an amazing character.
Now that’s what I call grate writing
It's sad because the war never ends. theres always war. each avatar tries their best but war just keeps happening
Which also means he's constantly reincarnating
Because war never changes
like when raava said we will never give up
no... WE will never give up
@@SuperThischannel never gonna let you down 😄
We will never give up 😢
Also Raava: Never talks to another Avatar after Wan.
And I thought Avatar Roku's death was sad.
Imagine the Second learning they are the Avatar.
2nd: “How is this possible?!”
Spirit Wan: “You got me kid, I’m making this up as I go along.”
😂😂
Bro I feel bad for the guy after korra
@ibu an earthbender. He'll only have Korra to talk to. Yikes 💀💀
what a heart-breaking scene.
It never gets old. Always hit me hard whenever I watch it. 🥺🥺🥺
The First Avatar was A Fire Bender. 🔥💜
The world ain’t perfect Wan but Aang and Korra did their part to ensure both the human and spirits to be in harmony. You may be gone forever Wan but you didn’t fail
"Don't worry, we will be together for all of your lifetimes and we will never give up."
😢
Wan is trapped in an eternal purgatory. His reincarnations will forever have to pay for his mistake of letting Vaatu out. Imagine spending lifetime after lifetime fighting against evil and chaos. He redeemed himself, but his redemption was bittersweet.
Well korra sorta freed him from that burden now after the connections was lost Korra essentially is the first all over again and has to live throughout the future lifetimes
@sparknazo not really since korra is his reincarnation

Don't worry Wan, your legend will live on forever
Even in 2023 this scene is still sad. It’s even sadder when you realize that there’ll never be enough time. No matter how many times the avatar reincarnates, there’ll always be some sort of darkness in the world… 😢
@SexAllutusAngelus it's actually sad 😔
His soul ain't at peace
@@Elay-tulc He was worried about time and Rava told him not to worry because he's basically immortal.
I’m actually incredibly intrigued as to the actual battle that took place here
Like how it started, the reason, how it proceeded, all the major and minor players, the lead up to it, the end, everything
It would’ve been awesome to see how it all happened
Wan needs his own TV show!!! He's more interesting than aang and korra imo
The fact that he surrenders his life at the end is really sad, after all he did his hope died
Wan was so humble, just started watching korra and cant believe i never seen this, wan is amazing
Writers: *makes a beautiful and interesting story about the first Avatar as well as building lore of the world and how it came to be as man let's power control them.*
also Writers: "Let's Get Rid Of All The AVATARS To Make Korra Look Stronger!"
You know how when anime characters die they have flashbacks?
This was the avatar cycle’s flashback.
What about getting her past lives make her look stronger? Nothing about the scene made her look strong it made her look weak.
I fail to see how getting rid of the past Avatars undermines that.
The music with Wan’s last breath along with Raava reassuring that they will keep fighting to keep the world in balance is something else
RIP in peace Avatar Juan
Juan?
My man spent decades just trying to get humanity peaceful again And was regretful he couldn’t do it all himself
My mind has just been blown after I realised that this place where he dies appears in the ATLA Episode: Zuko Alone.
There should be a film series about wan. It would be incredible to see him develop and age over the course of films.
His name is wan...which means 10,000....If it had been wang...that would have meant the intermediary between heaven and earth...

It's honestly kind of sad. I felt more for Wan in his 2 episodes than I did Korra in her entire show.
They should have just made a show about him instead.
Then you wanted to dislike Korra.
The Avatar Wanted to dislike Korra? shes a mess of a character
The Avatar lmao that's not what that means.. korras a straight up unlikeable bitch for most of seasons 1&2 I like her after the other seasons but it's pretty much a fact she sucked as a human when this show started
josh7495 true she was bitch onlu good thing she did was be with Asami I'm happy they were lesbian couple but she was bitch other past avatars did better Aang for one was better kyoshi was great too they should of made story better think Wan did right thing closed portals korra made mess but she did clean it up but she still needed be better the whole world kinda got fucked over due to her
pablogood5 that relationship was the most forced thing I've ever seen, I definitely like it better than Mako cuz mako fucking blows, but Asami and Korra had 0 romantic moments until the last second of the show, they definitely should've worked on that previous to the ending for me. The romance in this show really almost all of it was horrible besides Opal & Bolin. I like Korra and the show stands on its own apart from ATLA, but this season and the 1st I was not a fan of her as a person whatsoever. She does grow well later on though.
And the avatar cycle was born...
One of my favorite Avatar scenes, and there are a lot of them
This scene is so sad, it shows an avatar in sorrow, cuz Wan is about to die and Raava was always there with him, I almost cry because in my mother language that's get more sad than usual
Chris Paez you’re lame as hell 👎🏼
Bruh the fact you over look both Wan and Aang's mistakes and only focus on Korra makes you like a clown
Losing to every foe? Clearly we did not watch the same show.

Wan's final breath give me chills everytime. Almost like it was a sigh of relief.
Kind of makes me sad that he didn't get a proper burial
I think that kinda shows the realism though he was under appreciated in this lifetime cause people didn't understand his purpose like in Aang era or Roku the world became more accepting of the avatar
This part always makes me start ugly crying hardcore.
NeoNegate ... same with me
This is one of the most Emotional scene in Television History.
Can you imagined how freaked out his predecessor was when suddenly ghost wan shows up and they can bend more than one element!
I am pretty sure the second avatar ended up similarly
The first 6 or 7 Avatars after Wan probably all died violently.
