@@wesleyhollandjr111 Oh Terra Mystica is easy to learn the only thing that I seem to have a problem with it is being to win. But learning it was not so hard.
🙋♂️ Raise your hand if... one evening you brought a new release (you studied the rules hard!) and deep inside you felt betrayed because a friend suggested to play another game instead, but at the end of the evening you felt stupid because you realized you all had a lot of fun together and that what really matters 😉 Don't let F.O.M.O. ruin your evening, you'll play that game eventually...
Not that I'd do it, but I'm definitely feeling the "put your cell phones in here" thing. So disruptive when someone constantly on it! As for hosting, I might be guilty of suggesting games a bit beyond the entry level for new people. Maybe not for the first game, but the second one. Come on, Ticket to ride to Underwater Cities isn't /that/ big of a step ;)
Pre pandemic I would have laughed at such awkward and difficult nights. Now I am pink shirt incarnate. Anyone who shows up must be accommodated oh God please give me socialization.

While I use teach sessions to explore new strategies, it's still too easy to blowout the game even by accident. C) The year TM came out, I taught it three times one weekend at a con. Got the teach time down to juuuuust over 30m. D) Why are endfix dashes doing -strikethrough- rather than italics? Who regularly needs access to strikethrough?
I used to be Jean Jacket when I first started, and then a bit of Purple Shirt (with Pandemic and Tragedy Looper), and now I think I'm becoming Red Dress. Our last few game nights have literally been dinner parties.
@@varokwiss - on lucky non-working nights a board game meet-up means there is no literal host for the sessions I go to. The at home sessions are with myself debating over which game I should play vs want to play vs is it really worth all the setup... will I finish it this time... etc. It's a ME problem 😂
I felt that locking briefcase scene! I hosted once and actually told my guest if he didn't put his phone away he would never get invited back ever. He put his phone away and we had a great evening! Still not sure if he hates me now though.....
I found your channel only recently, but it's already one of my favorites/favourites (I am Dutch and keep getting confused about the proper spelling). There aren't many sketches on the web that you can keep watching time and again and which remain hilarious. But yours are!
My group definitely has to fight against the "let's talk about what we could play so long that we don't have time to play it" issue. Fortunately we've learned to just narrow it down and then let random chance decide at that point.
If you replace the wine with high-end craft beer...you just nailed my game night! Except for being late. You just lose turns if you're late. Oh, I'm sorry, is your hand of cows lacking?...SHOW UP ON TIME!!!
The infamous question: What would I tell my past self? I would show him this video to save me from the growing pains of being a host and all the potential gamers I scared away. And of course, buy Bitcoin.
"Yeah, I have some board games, but I know you have something new in the trunk of your Civic because I bought it for you and we haven't played it yet."
Can I be friends with the Paula who brought out Level 7: Omega Protocol? She's the best just for bringing that game out for a game night. (Though I 100% relate more to Salmon Dress Paula. Though it's usually Jerk Chicken, beer, and other snackies)
I'm somewhere between pink and purple for casual anyone-can-drop-in game nights. I usually end up teaching and hosting, but not playing. When it's RSVP-required pre-selected title game night, I'm a softer boss brown.
So funny! And true. Thank the d20 I am none of those archetypes. Nope. Never. ....I run a weekly boardgames meetup for 20+ folks, we're all not those people. 😂🎲🎲
Starting gamers out on Ghost Stories is like starting golfers out on Pebble Beach from the pro tees. My group is usually pretty good about not being on our phones while playing games, but they are helpful to look up FAQs sometimes and also 2 of our group have kids and need to have their phones in case of emergency. I wish I could get my wife into games, but after the Clue incident a few people respectfully decline to play when she's playing. I lost the rest after the D&D incident. I'm not 100% sure she didn't self sabotage. I guess games aren't for everyone.

That struggle is real! Okay everyone I refreshed the rules, got a teach ready, and have it all set.... up..... uh hey, who's this 6th person . . .
Ahhh that sudden turn from fun competitive strategic games to simple no-brainer party games, sounds so familiar
LITERALLY
I always do 3-3 in that case, 1 group plays on coffee table
The dreaded 6 player count.
Just about screamed aloud in terror when Terra Mystica came out for the newbies.
Oh man, I try to be flexible/accomodating, but If everyone says bring Gloomhaven, and I haul that bugger to game night, we are playing Gloomhaven.
I think there is a difference between "bring that game" and showing up with an unannounced game.
is it bad that I'd love to play with the bossy host ? lol
She does all the hard part of game night ^^
Control freaks can be useful sometimes.
I really appreciate how you manage to get it all in so accurately. Especially having game nights where I accidentally never make it to the table. 😬😅
haha I have often hosted game nights where I got to play very little because I was just trying to make sure others could play!
