Here's what I understand about the story. It's about how senua trying to deny and alter the mindset that her father planted in to her mind. The mindset that she is cursed, because her darkness and that she will bring death to people around her... the mindset that torturing her for her entire life. She trying to change that thought into something that she can live with, something that she can bare. And this is the story that we played... so none of those we see in the game are real. Is all in her imagination. For example is Fargrimr. A respectable wiseman who know things that believe Senua is special. Fargrimr is nothing more than a character she created in her mind to counter her father's mindset in her. She created him as a man that sees her mental disorder not as a curse but as a gift. So now that she have two option, to believe her father, or to believe Fargrimr. Of course she want to believe Fargrimr, but she cannot choose to believe Fargrimr just like that. She need a confirmation that Fargrimr is right and her father is wrong... she need another character, character that can confrim that Fargrimr is right. A character that knows the truth. That is why she created the Hiddenfolks. So as the hiddenfolk guide her, she grew more and more confidence that she is not what her father told her.... until she is ready to erase her father's mindset. Now she need to fight her father. She set this in her mind as a combat. A battle between Her and Godi, She made Godi as a mirror image of her father. As the avatar of her father's mindset in her... so if she destroy Godi she will destroy his Giant. Because Godi's giant is the darkness that she believe is in her... then she conclude it that there is no Giant... meaning there is no such thing is Darkness inside her... is just a mindset her father planted into her so he can control her life. But at the end she after she won she realize, she do have darkness... she realize it when she about to smash godi's head with rock. She realize that it was the darkness that drove her into such anger that almost crush Godi's head. But now she understand eventhou she have the darkness, doesn't mean she is the darkness... she can never erase the darkness inside her, but she can choose to follow it or deny it... the point of the story at this part is that she now understand that there is Good side and bad side inside her. (just like everyone else) But just like all people we cannot erase our badside, but we can always choose not to follow it. So in the end the whole story is about how senua mind processing and surviving her anxiety. How her human survival instinct trying to reason with her depression so she can live on. Just like what the dev said...the game is to give us an understanding of how a person with psychosis processing their mind to make sense everything that they experience in their life. Is just that as a psychosis, she didn't realize that everything that she experience is just a creation of her own mind. Psychosis cannot see which one is real and which one is just her imagination.... in her mind, all of them are real. So she didn't realize everything in her story such as her friends, the giants, the Draugr... are all an image of her creation. A creation that she build in her mind without realizing it , a creation that her mind create to fight her depression. So I'm really sad to see some people said, the game is femisnism woke... or white saviour complex or some rubbish like that when the truth is they just doesn't undertsand what the story is all about 😓 Yes the game have more walking and less combat unlike the first one. But I really think the 2nd have more depth in the story compare the 1st. Besides... from the beginning of Senua's game project, dev already told us that the aim of the game is to bring us to the world of Psychosis... the make us understand or atleast have and idea of how a Person with psychosis see the world from their own perspective. And they deliver it to the game very2 well... so why are people complaining about the combat and walking simulator ? 🤦♂This game is never was about the combat gameplay... you want more combat, more bosses, more enemy variation... go buy other game. A game that actually oriented as combat game.
Exactly! It's an AMAZING game with an amazing storyline. They did an amazing job at making the gamer feel connected to Sanua and the first giant! It felt like a TRANCE with the first giant! 5/5 for me!
Okay, I played the first one. This one seems to be shorter, very very short. There isn't much to do and probably when you complete it you won't find many reasons to replay it. Honestly, more than a game it is a cinematic, graphic and acoustic experience.
I played It, and i can Say that It Is completely based on narrative, graphics and scenography, and in this things is one of the best games ever, but if you want a lot of gameplay this Is not for you
Apart from the mind-blowing graphics, let's not forget the voice actors, the scriptwriters, the video game composers, and their artists who brought this masterpiece to life. This is truly next level!
I don't know where you're at. I just commended the script, voice acting, and soundtrack/music OTHER than this video game's gameplay and design. What's so wrong with that? LOL I give credit where credit is due. That's all ;)
I think anyone who is watching this video can actually find that out for themselves when they watch the entire playthrough. That's why I commented on something OTHER than the actual gameplay. That's different. :)
They've toned down on combat it isn't as frequently occurring as the previous game but most of the walking segments feel so polished compared to the previous game. I feel like the reason why people are giving it flack is because of the pricing.
Dude… I admire the first one Player it years ago *2019 to be exact* Replayed it days ago and… I still love it! But this one… Nah… so far *I’ve just finished with the storm gaint* And so far… it is good but nowhere near the first one The fights are soooooooo much less frequent and the empty spaces are so much more And most importantly… The game lost its creativity…
We were in for improvements, in scale, in story, in length. That's that the common audience expects from a sequel; improvements, and the studio did not deliver.
Thank you for posting this, you saved me 50 euros. This is pure tech demo.... If someone interested, I actually counted everything you encounter in this tech demo: -Enemy's: 48 (One of which is the final boss, a human with a sword, otherwise it's 47) -Symbol simulation: 4 (where you search for symbols in the environment) -Ball puzzle: 3 (where you pick up balls and put it on an altar) -Fire puzzle: 2 (where you light up some torches in a cave) -Female Big Giant boss: 1 (where you simply run behind some rocks and cut down chains) -Male Big Giant boss: 1 (where you simply run on a beach and you hold some metal rings so you won't be washed away) That's basically it... that's everything included in the tech demo. 50 euros. The rest are cut-scenes and pressing W to simulate walking. The graphics are absolutely INSANE!
It's a shame we didn't get a 3rd giant boss. They were hyping it up saying "the giant is coming but the sacrifices escaped!! What will we do now?!?!" But then we just get a human boss and the game ends.
Thanks MK! The gameplay movie is awesome. It is like watching a Netflix movie. It is full of suspense that I could barely balance boredom and patience in watching it to the end. Haha!
I think you have to liken this game to an interactive movie. It has replay value for those who enjoy this “300” type of atmosphere. Puzzles & not to mention increased difficulty. It’s brilliant for what it is.

I saw they have inverted the story and gameplay part. Even Until Dawn and the quarry had no combat but was still fun to play.
I agree, personally love this game because I see the artistry behind it. It's an experience. To be born with the gift of seeing beyond the Veil, but being cursed to have the darkness follow you because of that gift. Senua's bravery is something I admire because no regular person could survive the way she does. I'm a sucker for tragic backgrounds but having the strength to endure. Not a lot of games today tell their story the way this game does.
The concept of being able to hear your players thoughts for a indefinite period through out your play through is absolutely INSANE and incredibly innovative

Epic games always emulates other peoples' successful practices, and this is the reason why many other practitioners who were bolder and more innovative than it had eventually failed while Epic games has been there to this day. It was that the UE5's Temple of SUN and Matrix Awaken demos had emulated the art styles of Hellblade and Matrix Reloaded

I don't know, I've gone through DS and I dislike the game terribly. It's not just a courier simulator, it's a torture simulator too. Every level caused a burning in my ass. I don't consider it a masterpiece, but really memorable. In every sense.
Death Stranding legit has way, way more actual gameplay depth than Hellblade 2. Hellblade 2 is purely a narrative experience on rails with some very light puzzle solving. Even the combat sequences are really just a type of puzzle.
I’m so glad we have this account to see full gameplay without commentary especially this game with all these voices . Live-streaming is not that enjoyable with this game
This one really is a "walkthrough"! The game looks stunning, the facial expression animations are next level and, kind of, "over expressed" and ... That's it! It's an UE5 tech demo walking sim! Walk, walk, walk ... and whisper all the time you're walking ... Cutscene ... Light a torch here, walk to that brazier over there and put it out. Walk around and take the torch and light the same brazier, because you've put it out a minute ago ... Cutscene ... Crawl through some narrow spaces, solve some puzzles, walk some more, fight a few draugar(s) .. Walk "just a little more", whisper, whisper ... Cutscene ... Fu***n' hell! And the fights!!? Parry x 3, strike, evade, parry x 2, strike, strike, done!? Every God damn time! And they charge 49,99€ for this s**t!? Hell, for the amount of walking, they should be giving people money to play it. But, hey ... You're walking through a UE5 made environment. So ... That'll be 49,99€, please! I get that they were going for that "interactive" (movie) feeling, but walking around, holding W on keyboard, while the "story unfolds", isn't that much interactive!
I got Senua’s Sacrifice for 2.99 on sale during the Steam Summer sale. Just started it two days ago and beat it yesterday. For 5 dollar or less game it’s good but if I paid full retail for it I would’ve been fudging MAD mad. It’s beautiful visually, it being a case study in mental health under a Norse/viking type setting is also neat but it feels less like a video game and more like an interactive museum exhibit/documentary. As a cheapie it was a nice pickup with an interesting narrative. I’m not chomping at the bit to pick this sequel up but when/if it goes on sale for like 10-15 bucks I would pick it up if it’s more of the same as the first game. 60 bucks for a walking sim/curated interactive museum exhibit/documentary on psych is a little rich for my blood despite it being so graphically impressive.

Probably failed to recognize; during the course of the Hiddenfolk's trials, she was observing herself as the other figure at every interaction, learning both to help others, though it makes her momentarily powerless, thereby learning her true inner, strength, and to accept help by others, unconcerned with motives, in the absence of regard for duplicitousness, thereby continuing the arc of the first game: learning her true strength, to trust her heart, and above all, to be human, in spite of the rejection she faced as a child, or how the effective use of punctuation call allow for a grammatically valid one hundred and six-word sentence.
It's exactly like the first one (it looks gorgeous though, but just that), the gameplay is almost non existent, just an excuse to not appear to be justa a walking simulator. I completed the first one, but it was a drag for me, the movement was so limited, you couldn't do anything, but walking, find the next part of the visual puzzle, watch a cinematic, listen to the voices, fight the same fights over and over again and then repeat. To sum it up, this is hands down the most stunning game of this generation, across all platforms. It boasts an unparalleled visual and auditory immersion, with brutal combat and epic scenes. Personally, it’s everything I hoped for. As for the lack of exploration and the linearity, it makes sense to me. I don’t see how we could expect both in this type of game. The day we get to play an open world or semi-open world game with this level of quality might be with the next generation, but that’s not what I expected from Hellblade 2 anyway. I’m really looking forward to playing it!

Combat looks underwhelming with all the slow sword swings from the main character (lots of telegraphing for no reason, gets boring after a while and makes me think that she doesn't know how to fight) Also one enemy at a time is not a good idea in my opinion however enemy variety is okey I guess 4. The puzzles: delete them all together, they couldn't be any more boring than they are 5. The story and side characters didn't have me fully immersed, however it ain't too bad so I won't complain

A game that actually oriented as combat game.
thank you!!
The previous one was more fun gameplay so the story alone and poor gameplay is not excuse to say to ppl not complaining!!!
Exactly! It's an AMAZING game with an amazing storyline. They did an amazing job at making the gamer feel connected to Sanua and the first giant! It felt like a TRANCE with the first giant! 5/5 for me!
I don't think it's all just her imagination, but thanks for your insight, really inspiring.
Okay, I played the first one. This one seems to be shorter, very very short. There isn't much to do and probably when you complete it you won't find many reasons to replay it.
Honestly, more than a game it is a cinematic, graphic and acoustic experience.
as someone else has said the first was 7 hours this 1 is 5 hours so not shorter that much
so the 2nd one is just walking simulator
You mean autistic experience?
I played It, and i can Say that It Is completely based on narrative, graphics and scenography, and in this things is one of the best games ever, but if you want a lot of gameplay this Is not for you
Wait so what you said seems to imply that you didn't actually play this one so....
All that amazing artistic talents wasted on a sub-par game.
Did any of you play the first one at all? It's the same gameplay. I don't understand the complaining. You knew what you were in for.
They've toned down on combat it isn't as frequently occurring as the previous game but most of the walking segments feel so polished compared to the previous game. I feel like the reason why people are giving it flack is because of the pricing.
Dude… I admire the first one
Player it years ago *2019 to be exact*
Replayed it days ago and… I still love it!
But this one… Nah… so far *I’ve just finished with the storm gaint*
And so far… it is good but nowhere near the first one
The fights are soooooooo much less frequent and the empty spaces are so much more
And most importantly… The game lost its creativity…

Thank you for posting this, you saved me 50 euros. This is pure tech demo....
If someone interested, I actually counted everything you encounter in this tech demo:
-Enemy's: 48 (One of which is the final boss, a human with a sword, otherwise it's 47)
-Symbol simulation: 4 (where you search for symbols in the environment)
-Ball puzzle: 3 (where you pick up balls and put it on an altar)
-Fire puzzle: 2 (where you light up some torches in a cave)
-Female Big Giant boss: 1 (where you simply run behind some rocks and cut down chains)
-Male Big Giant boss: 1 (where you simply run on a beach and you hold some metal rings so you won't be washed away)
That's basically it... that's everything included in the tech demo. 50 euros.
The rest are cut-scenes and pressing W to simulate walking.
The graphics are absolutely INSANE!
I just played this game at $5, its better to play with game pass

Seriously. They got funds to make a game, and instead released a tech dmeo for u5. This is no game, it's a glorified tech demo. There's no gameplay either, all you can do is walk around and look around. Even the rare combat encounters are more tech demo and less actual gameplay. You're deff correct.

This is the best way to experience hellblade 2 this was a pretty good interactive TV Show.
I’m so glad we have this account to see full gameplay without commentary especially this game with all these voices . Live-streaming is not that enjoyable with this game
A truly stunning graphical showcase. And it looks even much better on a HDR monitor.
