Hi Poppy I like the way you speak in English, you are so fluent. I’ve worked in Thailand for 3 years but I haven’t heard any Thai people speaking English as you do .
You know what I love about this video is that it does not only apply for UK jobs only because the tips for the cover letter can work anywhere in the world.
This is a really, really useful and interesting video. I played it to some Ukrainian English language students today and it contains lots of excellent hints and tips for them in their jobsearches. Well done Poppy!
As it seems you are explaining about landing a job before brexit. I will agree that concepts may still be the same, how up to date can be general info, if it does not include covid pandemics and brexit. Update video pls.
Hi mate. I can tell you that I arrived in the UK just 2 years ago and I’d say the concept is the same. I didn’t know about this video when I posted mine about landing a job in the UK but I can agree with the advice from this video. I’d probably just use the different websites for finding a job
Glad I found your video! :) I am moving to the UK in November and I have almost finished my bachelor. Do you reckon it is harder for someone who just got out of uni to find a job or not?
Potentially as many businesses are making people redundant, less jobs in the market. But how much will depend on the job/industry, I know people in tech and their companies haven't really been impacted. It is however, much better than the way it was 2 months ago. Best of luck and keep at it 😊
Something other than skills that will be looked at in smaller companies especially, is just you. They will not only determine are you skilled and educated but are you someone they want to spend 40 hours a week with. I have been told many times after getting a job, I didn't care what your CV said, as long as it wasn't full of errors, you can be trained. What I did need is someone I can spend half of my life with that isn't going to do my head in and has potential to learn the job easily and be reliable.
I am moving to UK in coming August.I would like to know that I have got 3 years visa after or within that period do I get any trouble from my employer..?
Hi there - nope. I had different accent when studying in the U.S and even now, the way I pronounce certain words can change from time to time depending on who I spend time with. I naturally just pick up accents quickly :)
I am with my EU citizenship tried to open bank account or job application, and always I need some staff, which is always not possible to get , my job search ending with a three weeks holidays and back out plain tickets at the end 😅😢
Oh, sorry to hear this. I had difficulties with opening my bank account in the UK too but I’ve managed to do that in one bank, which was really helpful
I’m a bit confused here, after watching 2-3 of your clips, you mentioned you’ve been living in the UK for 3-4years, which I assume is back in 2017-18 when you found your first UK job, and now work as an accountant in the UK. Before that, you used to work in marketing&sales for a tech company in Thailand, so the first job you landed in 2 weeks since you arrived in the UK was this accountant job or something else? If this is a job you landed back in 2017, obviously before the pandemic, then releasing this info in covid-infested 2020 doesn’t seem to be quite applicable to those who try to land a job in the UK at the moment, maybe some tips on how to find a job during the pandemic, since the job dynamic has dramatically changed a lot since 2020.
Hiya - My first job in the UK wasn't in accounting, was in admin/IT support kind of role. I didn't stay long and started studying for ACCA straight away, I also have degree in finance which together with starting ACCA helped securing first accounting job. Great idea re job seeking in pandemic, thanks!
Luckily I watched your video , it was so precise and clear enough to understand the process for job application, but you didn't mention your visa status, my concern is if any one is coming to UK on visit visa, will it be easier to find a job and to convert the visa into work permit?
Hi Poppy. These are so helpful. I would like to ask a few things that might help me in the future. When you tried to come to UK, what kind of visa you had before? Can someone with visit visa applying for a job there? Obviously most companies and managers will ask about our legit authority to work in the UK. Tbh I already have the entry clearance to come to UK this July and would like to apply for a job there. So what should I do for the next step? It would mean so much if you can reply to my question.
Hi Thessa, I came with spouse visa so right to work wasn't an issue. You can't work legally with visitor's visa. It's part of the company's due diligence now to ensure people they hire have right to work, otherwise they're in risk of fines/legal proceedings. Bottomline, as long as you have right to work, keep applying and practicing interview skills and you'll get something eventually.
@@PoppyDontree how long spouse visa last? I am in a civil partnership with someone there. Do you think once I have a chance to come in UK on August later, it’s better to sort out the letter to legalise that we’re about to continue to the next step to our relationship? To make it easy for me to get either spouse visa or even marriage? Anyway, how’s the situation there during covid this time? Can I even come to visit lol
@@thessapratama1658 Spouse visa is valid for 2.5 years, you'll then need to extend for another 2.5 years then you'll have permanent resident status. Hi Arjun - thanks for the suggestion. I don't have much experience on that but will do some research. I am planning to do a job interview related video after Christmas so please do stay tuned :)
I didn't have IELTS and never got asked for it. They should be able to gauge your ability to converse in English at the interview anyway - hope this helps!
Hi poppy, I’m a migrant currently in the Uk looking for a job. I already have ACCA but no experience, hence I’m not getting offers. What’s ur advice to break into the practice industry?
I'd say apply for a very entry level job that you're overqualified for if desperate. It sounds grim but once you have some work experience in the uk under your belt then things get so much better. When I didn't have experience, I got job offer as an accounts assistant for outsourcing department in one of thr top UK 10 accounting practice so perhaps give that position a go too.
What I was told was that unless you're planning to work in audit (which requires strong UK GAAP reporting knowledge) then opt for SBR INT as there's less study to do. I did SBR INT, hope this helps :)
