Yeah. Casino Royale is, for me, the most Bond movie of all. Skyfall was good but it was back to movie Bond again and it’s tropes. It was a bit of an attempt to bring all the Bond fans together with mixing the new (and closer to the original concept) Bond and the old movies Bond. But most have been just bad. Even the last one. Casino Royale, in my opinion, proved that we could have a serious Bond, like in the books. But it seems people just want cheap comedy and gadgets and so they just went back to it quickly. Hooray for popcorn casual viewers and focus groups, I guess..

Oh, I remember the bitchy British press at the time though, some quite funny. The line that stuck was “he isn’t TERRIBLE looking, but he kind of looks like a dropped pear.” 😂 I mean they went from the prior guy who looked like a literal model from a middle age nappy commercial, to this one. So the bitchy press had a point in the context of the time. The thing was the new films HAD to have a different vibe. It wasn’t that the script, that made the reboot with Daniel Craig so good, it was that start of the Bourne franchise just DESTROYED what people expected of spy films, and the level of professionalism people were entertained by. If they hadn’t gone for the gritty new Bond aim, with nods to the past, then they would have killed the franchise. So they had to lose the cheesy jokes (mostly), put a more normal looking person in the role, lose the stupid gadgets (again, mostly), and the crazy womaniser jokes… “I thought Christmas only comes once…” for a pre-Craig example, in the the last one I think. Or Octopussy…. as the movie’s title. That crap wasn’t going to work. As an Omega watch fan, this was the first film where the Omega watch told the time… and that is it.

What’s interesting here is whilst auditioning and rehearsing for James, Craig adopts a Clark kent like demeanour. It’s only when you see him in casino royale for the first time and he’s fully transformed into Bond and he’s got that superman aura.
Craig back when he still looked human. Honestly I think turning Bond into a muscle bound super hero type instead of a suave Englishman was a serious miscast. Nothing wrong with Craig, he just wasn’t the right man for the job. But he did look more suited to it during the screen test than after he turned himself into He-Man… 😅

Aidan MacKay --- Daniel was 40 year's old in 2008. So he looks younger plus hadn't built-up his body muscles yet. He had his hair cut for the Bond movies. Change how he looked.
he's been a great Bond, he carries himself well in a charming, confident but calculating manner.. as if he's thinking 3 steps ahead! He was also brilliant in the Girl with the Dragon tattoo!
Craig MADE the Bond Movies. He turned it from a campy almost parody of itself to a serious AF spy thriller series. In my opinion he dethroned them all, first attempt!
There's nothing wrong with being campy. Anything campy is good. Craig may have made the Bond movies more serious than they were previously, but the earlier films knew how to balance that seriousness with humor. After all, there's room for comedy in any story, regardless of genre. The previous films could very well be "a serious AF spy thriller series," especially the ones with Dalton, who, as a thespian, sought to really get inside James Bond's head, and he pulled it off really well. However, audiences weren't quite yet ready for that kind of darker take on the character. But the point is that Craig did not "MAKE the Bond Movies," at least not that much more than his predecessors. They all played to their strengths and brought something different to the table. Craig didn't "dethrone them all," regardless of your opinion.
I never understood WHY anyone would think of Craig as a Bond actor. He is SO far away from all the other previous Bond actors that all whera supergood. And he dont fit as Bond one bit.

They had the Duke from Layer Cake in one of them.
@@earthstick Cool, thanks.
Everytime I see Daniel Craig, he kind of looks like Vladimir Putin.
He could be a good bond, he has potential…
But he did turned out to be a good bond, well at least to me 😄, i think casino royale is Daniel’s best bond movie, he did pretty good job for portraying a whole new different bond concept from before, but anyway everyone have different opinion and I respect yours 👍
@@thegamingcook785 HAHAHAHA OMG YESS 🤣 , i just realized it now, it's the usual jokes where it's like you predicting something as if it never happens when it actually already happened, loll idk how to explain it but yess i get it now, thank you and sorry bro for misunderstand your joke @SPECTRE NOIR 😅
@@thegamingcook785 I "and many others knew you were joking it's called a dry sense of humour 🤣
I don't believe this guy could be Bond, too skinny and not blue eyes enough. Maybe one movie and then they replace him.
Man, if his Bond had kept that hair, it would be an even more impressive performance, reminds a lot of Timothy Dalton.
Whenever I see auditions, I'm reminded how great of vision that casting directors have.
They have. I mean, the actor or actress is not in shape for the movie (maybe for a different one, but still), not in the real costume, no perfect makeup, etc. The scenes might not be worked out that well, the director doesn't know exactly what he searches for. etc.
Sometimes it is a massive contrast and just shows how much all parties involved invest for such a movie.
2006... wow ! So Daniel is now the longest running Bond !! Connery did come back 20 years later for one final role, but it was an "unofficial" Bond movie, he only stayed around 10 years or so as a regular Bond..
That was never say never it was an unofficial bond move hence why lathered wasn’t a gun barrel sequence Connery produced that one he had a part of the bond franchise
Connery was 9 years (if you don’t count his brief absence). More comes in 2nd at 13 years. Craig lasted longest, but had less films.
He’s good but he didn’t look like bond until skyfall. Still my favorite bond movie
Mine too
@@Gildete257 respect
@Matt hunterman why didn't he?? Because he looked young??? If it's because he looked young give me a break LMAO. Sean connery looked just as baby faced in his first movie. And I love sean. Daniel Craig in CASINO Royale looks like bond. He has that cold assassin look and the eyes look cold that no others have. They all look like models and too charming.
@@justamerica856 no it’s the hair. In skyfall he looked like bond, his suit and his hair and facial expression was bond. That’s why I love skyfall. He was always great but he looks better in the skyfall
@@matthunterman1 He looked most like Bond in Quantum.
Roger moore was always my favourite, such good stage presence with true English gentlemans voice!
Great performance, hopefully he gets the job 🙏
….?
Doesn't look anything like that in the movies. Lucky he got the part.
@@thegamingcook785 I'm pretty sure the point of a test footage is to see what the result will be.
he looks so goofy in these rehearshals
but in the Casino Royale he is threatening and confident
how is that possible?
it's the hair cut ;p
@@MartenGehman props to a casting director
Well, acting is a process. You have to find the character. It's like how most of your favourite songs probably sounded like shit in the first demo.
im dying at his filled in eyebrows. somebody got carried away with the brow pomade
To be honest, I have no idea how they hired him based on that screen test. His look and that voice were just shocking lol. But I guess that's why casting directors get paid way more than me.
They found him in "Layer Cake," Watch that, and you'll clearly see it.
When I heard that they selected Craig to be the next Bond I drank a toast to him. I knew that he'd kill it.
So nostalgic.
The way he opens and closes the door. That is SO Craig Bond. It's interesting to know he had that from the beginning.
I thought he was tremendous in Casino Royale...the opening scene blew me away and cemented Mr. Craig as the new James Bond for me. Speaking cinematically, I was also very impressed with how tall he always looked, as Mr. Craig is only 5'10" and yet he wears the amazing Italian suits perfectly. BTW, I happen to be how Bond was described in the books: 5'11 3/4" and 178 lbs.
And that's how James Bond auditioned to be Daniel Craig.
It's incredible how much Craig aged in fifteen years.
I was thinking the same thing!
daniel craig used to look like a school teacher with that hairstyle
He has the "look" of bond didn't have to say a word
Amazing how something like a haircut and how he carries himself in the films make him Bond(Yes,I know it’s acting, and DC is an amazing actor). Here he looks like some guy who works as a salesman or something.
He was the perfect choice, he revived the role and made it his own.
The Best Bond for me.
worst bond by far.
@@purefoldnz3070 He stumbled when he tried to become more like the previous movie versions of Bond. He was much more successful as a thug/blunt instrument Ian Flemming Bond.
@@cookieface80 he was a great actor but the problem was he hated the role and you can actually see his contempt for the character on screen. He only continued the role for lots lots lots of cash.
Layer Cake gave him the practice he needed to land this role
Every fanboy and fangirl claims their movie of their time (they were at their peak viewing pleasure) is the best James Bond.
For me it was Timothy Dalton, the seriousness, the realism, no stunts, no silly type puns and unreal scenes or plots in relation to other movies of the series. Next I'd say the original Sean Connery for his acting and smoothness of the delivery.
Dalton is my 2nd fav after Craig. My least fav was Moore. Connery was okay I guess. Olga Kurylenko from Quantum of Solace took first place for the Bond girls.

Your comment screams "Modern Bond fan"
@@q.h.s5051 I saw my first Bond movie in 1962 at the Roxy Theater in Pacific Beach, San Diego at the age of 8. It was Dr. No and that's when I became a fan so haven't missed one since then. The Catholic Digest had it listed as "sexual content" so my mom gave it a no-go for me. I snuck in anyways not really knowing anything about it other than I wasn't supposed to see it. My dad took me to see it again, so he could come back and report to my mom about what the big deal was. I think I remember him saying something about how all the female actresses tending to be "well endowed" with specific reference to Ursula Andress and her bikini. Those were great times to be alive. Remember the Saturday matinees? I saw the double feature matinee Goldfinger and Mysterious Island all for 35 cents. Lol My dad would always give me his "pocket-money" or loose change and tell me to make sure all my friends got what they wanted from the concession counter. I had wonderful parents.
Ended up being the best bond ever. I was knocking him before I even watched Casino Royale, in how he doesn’t even look the part. He proved me wrong.
Big daniel Craig fan now
What’s interesting here is whilst auditioning and rehearsing for James, Craig adopts a Clark kent like demeanour.
But he did look more suited to it during the screen test than after he turned himself into He-Man… 😅
I knew someone who acted with Daniel in the 90s, they said he was tipped to be Bond all the way back then.
and he hated every minute of it except the cash of course.
Casino was a really good Bond movie. (i think the whole theater screamed in the last scene when Craig said the classic "Bond, James Bond"). The following was a mess. (stopped watching after Skyfall (aka home alone 4)
Connery and Craig the best of the best. Craig resurrected Bond
Every bond has been legendary 🙌
He looks so different.
yes, totaly. His haircut has a lot to do with it ! He's not James Bond yet at this time.
this was just beta testing,
the recordings and shootings where the alpha,
and the whole movie the full relase lol
Aidan MacKay --- Daniel was 40 year's old in 2008. So he looks younger plus hadn't built-up his body muscles yet. He had his hair cut for the Bond movies. Change how he looked.
he's been a great Bond, he carries himself well in a charming, confident but calculating manner.. as if he's thinking 3 steps ahead!
He was also brilliant in the Girl with the Dragon tattoo!
Such a humourless thug, though. It should have been Jude Law.
I thought its one of those deep fake videos by the thumbnail, turns out it was daniel himself😂
Wrong guy. Wrong vibe. Good action and seriousness but bond was fun and really charming.
Christopher Nolan's Biography Movie ..Well 😂😂😂🇳🇵✌️
Craig MADE the Bond Movies. He turned it from a campy almost parody of itself to a serious AF spy thriller series. In my opinion he dethroned them all, first attempt!
More than any actor since Connery, Craig embodies Bond for this generation. The four actors between them are all in Connery's shadow to some extend.
That's exactly what made the movies boring and like all other action movies.
Without the camp most of his Bond films are just downer depressing action films especially Spectre and No time to Die
The transformation was amazing to play the best james bond movie ever .
I never understood WHY anyone would think of Craig as a Bond actor. He is SO far away from all the other previous Bond actors that all whera supergood.
And he dont fit as Bond one bit.
what a difference a haircut makes.
Pretty decent casting I’d say
He was the perfect choice. No matter what any actor ever does, being James Bond will always be the pinnacle of their career. Just the ultimate honour

Daniel Craig was the best Bond. I was unsure at first because he didn’t necessarily look the part (blonde vs black hair, muscular vs skinny/athletic, rough vs precise). However, when I watched him, I loved the new version of Bond as portrayed by Daniel Craig.
no he is short and ginger. brosnan was the goat
He's so much better looking now. Some people really age well.
They were right about that one! I thought he was perfect in that role.

Casino Royale was the only good Bond movie he made. It went down hill after that.
Is that Catherine McCormack standing in for Vesper?
henry cavill would've been great
Craig looks better in the screen test than he does in the final movie.
Wish they’d shut up and let us hear him act.
Daniel is a long way from ever being my favorite Bond, but I will admit he did make a great Bond.
Daniel Craig totally my favorite Bond. They were all good but Craig was a notch above the rest. Just saying.
There's another type of "Test" he did to prepare for the role which helped his physique.
And that’s the best bond we ever had!
I love this look of Daniel. Wish he had a similar look in atleast in one of the bond movies. But nevertheless he's a talented great actor.
