Dustborn looks like pretty interesting concept wise. I enjoy story based games and wide interaction with characters, but it seems all that this game has is concept and art which is unfortunate. Neither the story nor characters seem to go well together. Also, what the hell are they doing with Borderlands franchise 😭 I didn't think there could be something worse than that film.

I thought I'd give the Dustborn demo a try because I'm not usually one to jump on the dogpiling. Boy was it bad. It had potential with some of the mechanics, but the characters were so eye wateringly hateful. Whoever wrote that game has some serious issues.
Honestly hateful characters can WORK... They just need to actually commit to being absolute bastards. Case in point: MazinKaiser SKL. They're both so well-known as omnicidal maniacs that their "team" is just them two being sent on suicide missions hoping they'll finally die and no one will have to manage them and their murderous anger issues, plus a skeleton team of death row personnel who have explicit instructions to stay FAR AWAY from the "Death Caprice" duo. One of them picks fights and jumps into other people's fights for fun, and the other guns down everything that's in the way if they're in the fastest A to B route and flies off the handle if he gets called a clone (and has murdered his original to replace him). They're absolute bastards and most of the time they manage to be WORSE than the people they're sent to dispose of, but they're on a marginally morally good leash so we still cheer for the two assholes to win because they're content with being murderers on a government leash wiping out threats to humanity as long as they can solve the problem the ways they want to. Dustborn tried to make them sympathetic instead of embracing the bastardness of the characters and their powers. It did the same mistake that YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG did on an unpleasant main character. Her skill is literally Power Word: Command, she's short-tempered, and prone to using that as the solution to everything in the perfect "when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" demonstration someone could ASK FOR. She's even written with a villain protagonist backstory! Why isn't she a villain protagonist in a grey-and-black morality story!?
Hi the literal niche demographic they were targeting here. We also do not like it here in the alphabet mafia. We want games that are fun with characters who may happen to be queer or a woman not a game about that. I mean unless its a dating sim than that may sell ok.
And you can make likable LGBT characters. It really isn't as hard as people make it out to be. These people just can't write. The issue is not that they're woke, it's that they suck at their job.
Borderlands was great back in the day...the unfortunate thing about being great b ack in the day is that if you are not the best or have problems like bad dialogue someone will come along and do it way better than you and when you try to do something new that is just an iteration on the same formula it usually falls flat.
