Or Zach Greinke "What do you see in the future Zach"? His response "Flying Cars". He also, sometimes, makes a mockery of press conferences. "They have alot of good hitters". blank stare. Zach should actually reach out to Naomi as he went through anxiety early in his career. He missed about a year due to his fear of performing in front of crowds. He is better now, I think.

The thing is, when you really struggle with anxiety, being there itself is a huge burden and a lot of pressure.
That being said, I really hope for her own mental health that she'll be working on this as it is a really good exercise to fight your "demons": for her, it's her obvious shyness.
      But please, respect her choice

The Japanese media are notoriously invasive and pushy. I really do feel for her. She needs to hire an old battle axe nurse to run interference for her and set some boundaries. And, the Japanese notoriously slap a "weak" label on mental health. That is why their rates are so high.

I agree. This type of questioning of an experienced player about an absent player is what I totally dislike of press and stupifying "media". They have no right to bring these themes up because, in this case, Serena is not a qualified interpreter. I seems that If Serena doesn´t respond, these goons would attack her. These idiots should stick to the sport not speculation about what absent people think. No respect for the player should produce a strong pushback on media. Naomi is right, these people stink.

      100%
I stand with Naomi. I know she's going through some deep shit atm but, press conferences often go astray and don't blame her for not wanting a part of it.
The players association say that if she needs help they can provide help (love to know the confidentiality or lack there of with that). Not slapping her with a $15,000 fine
and respecting her space would've been a good start.
They need to talk about the match and maybe the upcoming match that's it. I've seen many where it goes off topic.
The media and supporters are to blame... there's this obsession with having to know what a player thinks of another player,
Or what they did or going to do on their off season. If its game related FINE anything else is just gossip.
I watch tennis to see and hear about tennis, if I want gossip I'll...
Well I don't know where I'd go for gossip that ain't my jam.

It’s so funny how when Venus and Serena look “uninterested” in SOME of their interviews it’s a problem, but now that Naomi spoke up about the issues that come with doing these interviews everyone wants to feel for her and understand how toxic the interviews are. I totally agree and stand with Naomi, I just find the treatment and comments about Serena and Venus to be so distasteful, like keep the same energy. People truly don’t like to see them be great. And all these comments about Serena being “unprofessional” or a sore loser when she loses, like damn isn’t she a human? Don’t you get upset sometimes? People need to realize that celebrities and professional athletes are HUMANS with their own emotions and behaviors. You would hate to have everything you do judged by someone and you know it

If you don’t want to do it, then quit and play tennis for fun with your friends, I’m sure the media won’t bother you at that point. She is a very strong person and she keeps on proving this and she did this in this interview again.

It is media's job to talk about things. It is a pity for Naomi on a personal level that she made her personal turmoil so public because now everyone's talking about it.
But also quite brave of her to do it too, as it is clear that she wants to draw attention to this issue of "mental health".

Sorry to say but there’s something fishy about all this. I honestly find it amazing people blaming journalists for doing their job. People that need to be heavily criticized which at this point still hasn’t been brought up to the conversation are her PARENTS and coaches/physios. If they knew her daughter or/and player were suffering from REAL mental health issues (which I highly doubt) they should be wise enough and obliged to make the decision that Naomi should not at all be playing tennis. Naomi can’t be treated differently from other players if she decides to compete. it would be very unfair. Professional athletes know the terms and conditions when they enter a tournament. They get paid immensely by an organization they basically are “working” for. The ATP/WTA/ITF. So either they deal with it on the same conditions like the other players or they don’t partake. Simple. Now to Naomi in particular. I think she’s a sweet soul with good intentions in her heart. But she got this wrong. I personally don’t believe she’s suffering from diagnosed mental illness but I do think she is maybe more sensitive and introvert than others. But that doesn’t make her mentally ill per say. What I do think has happened to her is that she is struggling to cope with fame, success and the immense pressure that comes with it. This I totally respect. And what makes me say this is also the obvious fact that she has been struggling on clay ever since she started competing as a professional. So in general she will be asked more tough questions in her mind before and during this tournament than other slams because she is clearly doubting herself if she can keep as high a level as she has kept on hard court. Even her sister wrote about this on Reddit. She wanted to stay away from journalists questioning her ability on this surface because she already (as her sister put it) had her doubts and didn’t really want any other to get into that space as she was working hard to build her mental confidence regarding her ability to perform but also to live up to all the expectations that’s being put on her. This is immense pressure yes. But it’s not a MENTAL ILLNESS. She was even herself alluding to “self care” (which I totally buy you need to have some of during a fortnight of competition) , and tried to make a not so successful distinction between this and mental illness. I honestly think everyone need to chill out a bit and look objectively on this matter. The snowflake era has a lot of good intentions but the way they handle it and go about it is in this and many other cases doing a disservice to those who are suffering with this awful disease for real. Because what happens now is that people who are uneducated in this matter will think that mental illness is a joke or synonymous with heavy pressure, which is not.

Serena has been such a well-rounded champion. Tennis is such a mental and solitary sport that it becomes necessary for players to develop a strong communication ability. Osaka is undoubtedly a tremendous talent but I believe if she wants to stay on top she will have to improve her communication skills rather than avoid interviews and make adversaries out of the media.

Just because a person has a personality to be more introvert doesn't mean they are weak or thin skinned. Some extroverts that want be center of attention can also be easy hurt. They can smile on the outside but inward scream of disappointment! Naomi choosing to be quiet takes nothing from her strength, in fact in many cases a quiet, still nature person that has patience, love and humble is the stronger person. I think they should let this young lady play and do interviews on her turf. Many times the players are tired, have alot in their mind and it's just the wrong time to blast them with alot of silly questions to hook a story or audience just for the money 🤑. When these players say stop, no, I'm tired, not feeling like talking and you keep going, that's abuse and she has every right to walk away! Now I have mad respect for Serena because she paved the way but just as she said, everyone is different! Naomi do you! I personally love her quiet humble style but really I'm extrovert but it doesn't mean I'm stronger than an introvert.

Yes, agree with you 100%! Naomi's depression is rooted in the trauma she experienced during the trophy presentation of the 2018 U.S. Open Finals! Instead of the blissful feeling of winning her First ever Grand Slam at a young age, she thought she was being booed, she cried and even apologized for winning against her idol! And it was partly because of Serena's on-court antics, yelling, and complaining with the Chair Umpire, hence, indirectly bullying Naomi to lose her bearing, focus and composure during the 2nd half of the game!

A deal is a deal, she should not have attended RG at all, or saw a therapist to help her through the anxieties that comes with her job, instead of renegade on her word, one's contract is ones word. I can't just not show up for work or leave in the middle of a boardroom presentation full of intimidating folks, because I have anxieties about presenting on high level platforms. While I emphatise with her she also needs to be taught to find the balance between self-care and selflessness, working under pressure versus mental health, not every anxiety is a mental health issue. Mental health must not be abused as a scapegoat for being overly self-aware or overly selfconscious. Her response came across as attention seeking or controversy stirring. I hope she takes the time to work on her shyness and fears or anxieties.
