Thank you for sharing this.....HISTORICAL interview with Ron and Russell. It's nice to know they were wise guys even in the early days! Russell DOES sound very young, but I suspect the tape might be slightly speeded up. Anyway...this is is really fascinating and all of us Sparks fans REALLY appreciate you sharing this true gem with us! Cheers!
So satisfying to receive your favourable comments. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to interview them and, by the way, the tape is definitely runny at the right speed.
This really is a great find & the quality is so good. Thanks so much for sharing. I got into Sparks when I heard the song playing on my sister's radio in her bedroom. I was hooked straight away. Russel's amazing falsetto over a frantic rock track like nothing I'd ever heard before was just amazing. I was only 14 myself but when Sparks were on TOTP that week I had that instant feeling of like falling in love at first sight. What did I just see? Incredible. They've been my favourite band ever since. A mark of good taste I think. My autographed copy of 'Kimono My House' is one of my most precious possessions. I wonder if the TV adverts they did when they were younger are still around somewhere? I'm sure I recorded a couple of interviews on the radio since then. I know I have one when they released 'Introducing Sparks'. I'll have to hunt it out.
From the moment anyone saw and heard Sparks you recognised the potential of something special happening, and it did and has. Only last night I was listening to a 2005 track from top British band the Kaiser Chiefs and, as the backing vocals kicked in, I thought “Straight out of Sparks.” John
Thanks for this. Soparks are one of the most underrated bands ever. Ron and Russel film 'Annette' is brilliant. A must watch :)
Could not agree more, nice surreal guys and so inventive. Let’s hope that film gives them the recognition they deserve.
