You must have never tried GOOD lump. By the time B&B burns hot and clean, my favorite lump would have cooked the food, we would have finished the meal, and the dishes would have been washed and put away!!!!
@@mikem1436 it's not always about speed but more about quality and taking time to produce the best flavor profile. If you're in a hurry just use a gas grill or microwave or order fast food lmao
@@pokes986 My guess is you, and a bunch of others, are new to grilling. You state "flavor profile". You have no idea of what that means. I've tried JD before and thought it produced an off flavor to chicken when I tried it, maybe it was just me, but I like FOGO a little better because it burns clean and you can taste the wood flavor you add to the meal. I also like B&B for the same reason, not much flavor from the charcoal more flavor from the meat and wood.

This test does not emulate real cooking. Great lump would be burning hot in under 4-5 minutes. Great lump would burn very hot compared to any of these. It be burned out in an hour or so; but who cooks like that. Who would cook at 1000*+ for an hour. None of these lump charcoals is a quick light and fast cook. It took forever for any of them to burn hot.
@@BBQiT Your test is flawed. But I will thank you for your effort. I did not watch the whole video again. You dump the chimney stoves at 25 minutes. That is a long, long time. Good lump would have cooked the food by then. I am not sure what you are trying to show? I can cook a steak at 500-700* in less than 15 minutes of lighting the lump. 5-8 minutes to get it hot and 4 minutes to cook the steak. Where are you located? I'd like to challenge you to a steak cook off! Your great B&B to my favorite lump.
That happens. It’s not to say the coals are not great. They are. Blues Hog makes an amazing product, trust me. That’s simply a byproduct of the manufactured coals.
The Humphreys is spitting alot but there ain't much in the chimney... the BB lump will spit like that too even filled up if the peices are bulky and there is a lot of air in between the lumps.
Need to cook something with them so you can compare flavor I have had some South American charcoals that produced off flavors. For me most of the time I'm looking for a charcoal that lights fast and burns clean.
Can some one please do a charcoal test to see if the different charcoal actually makes a difference in the taste of food. everyone does a burn test but some charcoal actually. Makes food have off flavors even if they burn hot and long
@@BBQiT I noticed that the south American hard wood charcoals do make my Food taste different from american lump charcoals ie the big block compared to rockwood just curious if any one has preferences do to this

This is very good test you put together. I use Jealous Devil,, I lucked out and bought my years worth just before the price more than doubled. I'm fairly new to grilling and you did mention seasonal pricing, could you briefly expand on the best time to purchase lump...living in USA. I line the inside of my Weber Kettle with metal mesh to catch the gravel and burned pieces for the next fire.
@@blink555 I bought a 35lb bag in April, I think for $49.95 although I have lots of charcoal of different brands. So in late June I checked the price on Amazon and found the price had more than doubled. So I sent a email off to Jealous Devil and their response was that the price is controlled by market forces, and the were not going to refund money to me, which I never asked for. Right now I am burning a bag of B&B lump and have no complaints. I use a fine screen to catch small pieces in my Weber kettle, and achieve multiple burns with the same charcoal. Less I digress, I am new to grilling in a serious way and was wondering if pricing on charcoal is seasonal. Also with many people home cooking due to C-19 might have an effect on pricing. Happy grilling.

It took forever for any of them to burn hot.
Not sure what ya mean. They all hit 1000 degrees at some point. This test ONLY shows who keeps burning on their own the longest. That’s it.
My local guy is going to stop carrying Blues Hog due to finding small concrete blocks in the mix.
That happens. It’s not to say the coals are not great. They are. Blues Hog makes an amazing product, trust me. That’s simply a byproduct of the manufactured coals.
We need more videos dude. Hope all is well. Peace.
Great video!
Sweet, thanks again and sub if ya can!!
Love this shared it on my site. When is 3 and 4 coming out?
Ever try the Lumberjack yet?
Thanks for this...
Let’s hope the American charcoal makes a better showing in Part 3. Can’t wait to see!
NO kidding eh!! Thanks for subscribing!
The Humphreys is spitting alot but there ain't much in the chimney... the BB lump will spit like that too even filled up if the peices are bulky and there is a lot of air in between the lumps.
1 pound in each chimney. Humphrey was a full chimney, it burned up fast, real fast. Cheap
@@BBQiT I believe it. I use BB LUMP AND BRICKET. I was just saying I've had bb lump spit hard like that too.
Awesome to have this real world experiment to look back on. I ordered some Fogo yesterday and am excited to try it.
Hope you enjoy it! And thanks for the Sub!!1
Perhaps it also depends on use .... low and slow vs searing? Then there is flavor. Lots of tests still left. :)
Yeah, this one is just a burn time test really. Some don't put off any flavor, strangely enough.
Need to cook something with them so you can compare flavor I have had some South American charcoals that produced off flavors. For me most of the time I'm looking for a charcoal that lights fast and burns clean.
Will do!!
@@BBQiT maybe in the Humphreys Battle box would love to see more cooks with it
Can some one please do a charcoal test to see if the different charcoal actually makes a difference in the taste of food. everyone does a burn test but some charcoal actually. Makes food have off flavors even if they burn hot and long
There are some that do add to flavor, but it’s hard to decipher much.
@@BBQiT I noticed that the south American hard wood charcoals do make my
Food taste different from american lump charcoals ie the big block compared to rockwood just curious if any one has preferences do to this
So how does B&B lump compare to Jealous Devil?
Were gonna find out next week!! This Friday, part 3 drops, then part 4 next week!! Hey, thanks for watching and click subscribe and ring the bell if ya can, you'll get the videos instantly when they drop! Whooohooooo!!!
Nice video Craig, how do you use lump in the pit barrel??
Same as briquettes... Just lite a small amount to get going. Creep up to ya temp instead of shooting past it.
This is very good test you put together. I use Jealous Devil,, I lucked out and bought my years worth just before the price more than doubled. I'm fairly new to grilling and you did mention seasonal pricing, could you briefly expand on the best time to purchase lump...living in USA.
I line the inside of my Weber Kettle with metal mesh to catch the gravel and burned pieces for the next fire.
when did you buy it?
their website, or Acehardware.com

I bought a 35lb bag in April, I think for $49.95 although I have lots of charcoal of different brands.
Great test!
Thanks for taking the time to watch and subscribe, very very cool! Next video this week!!!
