Remember that ALLLL eye shapes are beautiful! This video is just to help you figure out what shape you have so you can find an eyeshadow technique that works for you! At the end of the day, makeup is fun so do what YOU love! Let me know what other makeup topics you want me to cover in our next makeup masterclass!
Omg love this 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 I have deep set eyes but now turning 40 i Also have hooded eyes . How do i do makeup on hooded but Also deepset eyes. And they Also just started downturning under aswell🙈
@@sunshinejansen85 Hooded eyes and Deep Set eyes can pull off the same technique! Lighter on the lid with medium to deep above the crease. No eyeliner on top and curl lashes with 2 coats mascara to bring out the eyes
Thank you for expressing that all eye shapes are beautiful! I've always been self conscious of my deep set eyes because of all the shadows and the brow bone, and you made me feel more confident! As far as other topics, I simply cannot figure out my undertone! I've tried all the tips but still don't understand!
Round, deep set eyes here, which I mistook for hooded for quite a while. Took me too long to accept that a wing just does NOT work on me (believe me, I tried!) and light, shimmery colors all across my lid and up above my crease are my best friends. You just confirmed that for me, so thanks! I kept hearing that woman of a certain age should shy away from shimmery colors and stick with mattes, but mattes make me look dead, and shimmers bring life to my eyes and complexion. I guess it really does just depend on the person! ☺️
Me too! I do like a matte eye though, I leave the lid bare ( I am very fair) and just put a colour that contrasts my eye color in line with my iris and the tip of my nose ( the outer crease ) to create that diagonal line. No eyeliner though on top of the eye, that looks terrible.
Robert Jones makeup artist on youtube has a video on doing a makeup look on someone with deep set eyes( and yes the model really does have deep set eyes.) It is a great video Check it out it may help when he explains what he is doing and why.
I HATE how people say that after 40 you can't wear shimmers. It literally kills my soul to hear this. My mom is 68 and wears the Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadows all the time and they look GORGEOUS on her. She swears by them
@@MarlenaStell : Right? I’m just shy of 40 and I have no intention of stopping my use of shimmery eyeshadows! Personally I think age has nothing to do with it and one has to determine what works best for them based on a number of factors, such as skin tone, texture, and just plain old personal preference. ☺️
I thought this whole time I had hooded eyes since my brow bones are prominent, but now I know they are deep set. Super helpful video. I usually avoid wearing eyeshadow because I didn’t know how to wear it for my eye shape. Thanks, Marlena!!
Hint for determining deep-set: your lashes will often touch your brow bone when your eyes are open because of the brow bone being out farther than the eye. Always love learning about makeup. Thanks Marlena! Excited for new stuff coming out in fall! 😃
This is fantastic! I’ve been trying all these different eye looks that haven’t worked for me. I was thinking that I needed more practice etc. You made it so easy and I can’t wait to try the look for my eye shape….thank you!!
I remember one of the first videos I watched of you. It’s super old now but I was searching for makeup for round eyes (my eyes are super round and big). Your make up advice was one of the rare advice out there . Thank you
I remember a Kevyn Aucoin book I had many years ago talking about deep set eyes which I have. I’m so grateful that you’re talking about them and giving tips! It’s hard to find tips for this issue!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been trying to figure out what kind of eye shape I have and it's so helpful that you compare the shapes from the others! Pictures just don't explain well enough. :)
I watched one of your videos from about a year ago. It was around an hour long. As usual, there was loads of great information in it. Thank you for taking the time out of “momhood” and being a lady boss to teach us.
thank you for giving upturned eye people the option to exaggerate! everyting else i've seen is about demphasizing which is fine but i want to emphasize my natural shape the same as others with different eye shapes and this was so so helpful!
I've always wondered what kind of eyes i have cuz it's not hooded but certain looks does not look good so this video helped so much!!! I have " upturned deep set eyes"! I don't feel like to many people have this cuz I've watched so many videos looking for someone like mine to find what looks best!!!!
I'm a combination between bigg round eyes, prominent eyes and slightly downturned eyes and have to admit that eye makeup has been pretty difficult to do. I have tried many different styles but none really worked for me. Soft brown pencil liner to lift up the eyes, and Mascara at the corners of my lashes really helped to lift them up and still keep their natural shape.
Thank you so much! I just found you today and will be watching your videos when I have the time. I'm so sorry about Makeup Geek...I had always heard great things about it. Can't wait to see what you have in the future.
We can do alot, (although it can be tricky if you have very heavy lids that completely cover your mobile lids)we just need to experiment and alter techniques! I am loving doing a graphic line visible when my eyes are open above the crease in a winged shape!
I love, love doing a halo eye when I’m trying to go full on glam. How about the reverse smoky eye? I’ve also seen this called the reverse smoky cat eye? This technique was made for hooded eyes! I’m so in love with doing this and you can adjust how far down you go under the eye and how far out you want to bring your wing. If all else fails- apply a glitter glue and apply a shimmer all over for a one and done look. I could keep going but this comment is so long, already❣️😂❤️
True, we exotic eyed girls don’t have those deep sockets that are shown all the time because advertisers want the eyeshadow to be clearly seen. However, hooded lids do justice to a mysterious smoky look like no one else. Think Brigitte Bardot. Or Lauren Bacall ( my fave), or Alia Bhatt, the famous Bollywood sex symbol. Every Geisha that ever lived. Embrace your inner sloe eyed vixen! BTW We also give great side eye. 😊
I think hooded eyes (mine are semi-hooded) are challenging but beautiful! I love some of the suggestions here. It does get frustrating when all the tutorials don’t work for us. But learning the theory and “rules” for how to achieve the desired effects opens up a lot of lovely doors for us!
I have deep-set, almond eyes, & also, w/ a bit of a hood: I utilize the style you’re wearing MOST often…..lightness in the inner corner, w/slightly deeper shading gradually moving towards the outer corner. Sometimes, I’ll only use lighter shades on the lid as you described & use a mid tone/slightly deeper shade above the crease & the upper-outside of the eye to “recede” the brow bone a bit. Those techniques REALLY work for me.👍….used to be able to wear a small wing, but as I’ve matured, the wing will collide w/my hood so “wings” are mostly not feasible for me now.
THANK YOU!!! This is helpful. I have deep set, wide eyes, and very high cheekbones, so my under eyes always appear puffy, if that makes sense. I also struggle with lashes as they hit my brow bone and I get mascara marks there. I think I need to do my lashes first, then concealer and eye shadow. Anyway, my eyes are green and I bought some concealer and eye makeup in shades of purple and I am a beginner and I am nervous to open my products and try, but knowing my eye shape now gives me more confidence! So many beauty experts confuse deep set eyes and hooded eyes so it's hard to find good tutorials. The way I've heard it best explained is with deep set you still have a visible mobile lid that doesn't disappear when eyes are open whereas hooded eyes don't have that larger lid area. That made sense to me. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know this video is a year old so this likely won't be seen, but thanks if you are here and reading! Happy Make Upping Everyone!
Hi Marlena!! This was an AMAZING video and i have learned soooo much❤️ (yes at 50 you can indeed learn😉) And YOU ARE AMAZING gorgeous empowering and inspiring please continue these awesome videos they are GREAT🏆🏆😘😘
I feel like I have deep set almond shaped eyes, because I have kind of a "bag" under my eyes & a pretty stand out brow bone but never bags under my eyes from not enough sleep & my eyes are long and straight across like an almond, I find that a wing, particularly small or long thin ones make my eyes more open & my lashes are naturally curly so a good mascara makes them pop. thank you for making make up education clear and easy to understand without being boring ❤
I have a very interesting and exotic mixture of different eye shapes thats why it was initially hard for me to find out what worked for me in terms of eye makeup. I have small almond shaped but deep set eyes (way more deep set than the one she shows in the video) and I love it! Everyone's always imitating a cut crease/almond shaped eye makeup look that i naturally have. Deep set eyes needs to get more love. People talk badly about it yet try to imitate it all the time when they apply eye makeup.

If we are lucky enough to have lashes that are long enough to touch them. 😔

Omg Rebecca Harris… yes!!! Exactly. That’s my shape.
Hmm I don't know, that is true for hooded eyes too, especially for POC or people who don't have a lot of space between eyes and eyebrows.
