    I bought the 85" TCL QM8 from Best Buy for $1399 and paid $5 for Quantum's settings. For the size-to-price-to-performance ratio, I have no regrets.

    I think you should say "picture accuracy" instead of "picture quality." The QM8 definitely struggles with picture accuracy (colors out of the box, calibration options, EOTF tracking), but there is much more to picture QUALITY than accuracy, which is only one variable. The QM8 shines in many other ways (brightness and contrast, for example), which many people would consider important to picture quality (along with accuracy).

    The color on my TCL QM8 is perfectly fine. Both TVs have their ups and downs. TCL has better brightness, contrast, Picture Quality and it can do 144Hz where Hisense has better upscaling and better picture accuracy. The Hisense can also only do 1500 nit peak brightness while the TCL does 2000 nit. Either way both TVs are good and it’s usually just a personal preference when it comes to TVs but you wanna make sure you can get one specific for your needs/wants.

    I would love to know how the 75" ADS/IPS U8K compares to the VA QM8. It seems the things hisense is "winning" at could change. I have to assume black levels, motion and image clarity will be affected in some way and if any of those are negatively affected then the qm8 would be the hands down choice at a that size.

    I have the Q7 and it’s so much better than my Sonyx80k which was still good.
    I only blooming I see is when something bright is in the corner like a title or anything but the entire tv is black. Black level is great. No issues here at all. I’ve had some glitching issues at times but I just restarted the tv no big deal.
    How can I get your recommended settings? I just have my tv at smartHDR brightness 50, and turned off that automatic brightness crap

    Awesome thanks!
    Can you do an upscaling test please? FOMO said the upscaling on the Hisense is improved from the past and better than the Q7. What about vs the QM8? rtings is possibly giving the QM8 a 4/10 for upscaling. Can you give your impressions? Which is better with 480/720p RUclips videos etc?
    Also banding has been an issue at least with Hisense in the past. Any noticeable differences in that area between the sets?

    I'm strictly a pc user/gamer and the u8k is a far better choice for that specific use case. As to color saturation you can tweak that via the settings to get vibrant colors and inky blacks at the same time so with a bit of effort. Motion is perfect as long as its a high quality source. It does fall a bit off with sub 1080p content but who buys a tv like to watch low quality content?

    Interesting that the Hisense with only an 8-bit panel beats TCL with a 10-bit panel. A couple other noteworthy differences: the Hisense has the next-gen ATSC 3.0 tuner. The TCL does not. The TCL’s eARC port is separate from its two HDMI 2.1 ports to be able to connect eARC and two next-gen gaming consoles.

      @johnmghanks Год назад +3

      The HDMI port for eARC being separated from the other two HDMI 2.1 ports sounds great till you realize that port eARC is on is only HDMI 2.0. May not sound like a big deal but that means it's limited to 18Gbps so lossless audio for higher end audio formats is not possible. You can still use them but they will be compressed with lossy audio.

    Unlike like other reviewers example like digital trends I like that you're direct without giving a shït about fidelity to any tv company and go straight to the point.
    If I'm not mistaking you where the only one ho noticed that sony had some issues with video/image processing, well I had the x95l and after one week of trying to somewhat stabilities the processing I've given up and returned it. My issue whas that on action movies or fast paced videos the image was loosing some frames and could not see exactly the entire scene. I have zero clues how that is called but I'm pretty shore is a term for it in the reviewers world

    As a Hisense U8H 55” user, is it worth upgrading to the U8K or QM8? I wanna know if the issues with the U8H has been improved in terms of the posterization (color banding), perhaps a bit better motion (better processing), better upscaling/sharper image and blooming control if upgraded to the U8K or is the QM8 better in regards to that. Don’t need to answer, though these are some good pointers I would love to see in a physical comparison in a future video. 👍

    U8K upgarded the Mediatek SoC (from MT9615 to MT9818) , TCL using the same SoC from 2021 , (MediaTek MT9615 aka MT5889) - The same SoC Hisense used in their U8H .. Same SoC that caused resolution halving .. in Sony X90E , X85K , J ... Still TCL not able to do 4k 120hz 4 4 4 .. only 4k 120hz 4 2 2 or 3840 × 1080p @ 120 hz 4 4 4 .. this outdated chip doesnot have enough bandwidth .. TCL should have upgraded to Pentonic 1000 or added an Co processor like Sony did in their X90j to help it.
    Also the 9615 SoC upscaling processing , motion handling , and black gardiation are on the average side.

    Honest review! I feel the TCL Q8M is the overall better choice if you can get one no issues. It is a huge improvement over my TCL Q825 which is what I am hoping for. As for the Hisense U8K I think my Hisense U8H may be the better choice because it can get brighter yet it's black level performance is close. Also Hisense dropped the ball in cabinet design since the U8G! Doesn't look like a top of the line model!

      I understand . JUST like last 3 yrs Hisense FLAGSHIP--H9G, U8G, U8H, always 8bit with upscaling. But comparing Sony X900h, A90J , X95K, LG C9, CX, C1 ….U know what I am talking about . Just like if we get BEST Intell CPU doesnt mean we get Best graphics.
      SONY --TCL--USE RGB technology, (red green blue blends). --😊Thx to Quatum educate US 🎉
      Hisense/Samsung use HIGH level Luminance Blend light technolgy. RGB tech, will look dull n off putting. But they over compressed by making it bright . Their blue/red/ green always off looking. For example if u use SONY all neon pink looks megenta, all their lavender will look purple . Their green will look turquoise , u can check in d store. I am not sure about TCL, but if same tech, prob same problem. Color blends.
      Hisense Produce WAY Vibrant color. Like megenta , pink, orchit flower purple shade. Etc.

    Currently have a 65H9F and trying to make this very choice. You pegged the key issues making this difficult. Really would prefer the 10bit panel of the QM8 but the lack of color control and QA is concerning. Use a HTPC with a Denon 3800H AVR sourced from a Nvidia RTX and will want to verify no HDMI/CEC issues or issues with 4K/120hz 10bit YCbCr 4:4:4 and if that's possible at 40Gb/s through the Denon. Wiki indicates up to 10bit 4K/144hz YCbCr 4:4:4 should be possible at 39.19Gb/s.

    So the hisense is an 8 bit panel and the tcl is a 10 bit panel, is there that much of a drastic difference in color reproduction between the 2? I own the 75" U8K and don't want to feel like I'm missing out on a big difference for $100 or $200 difference between the 2 at the same size

    • @johnmghanks
      @johnmghanks Год назад +1

      In 99% of normal use cases, no. The U8K is 8bit+FRC so it can reproduce the same colors as a 10 bit through some trickery. If you are doing high end color correction on your PC or trying to dial in master level calibration you won't get the same as a native 10 bit panel. Very close, but not 100%. However, the QM8 has it's own problems where even if it is native 10 bit color the PQ EOTF tracking is weird so it either blows out highlights or is dimmer than it should be. If you are a gamer consider the U8K as the QM8 handles VRR in an odd manner by certain threshold brackets so if you're not hitting a certain FPS it's really bad looking.

    Ok so maybe someone an help. I can get a q7 65 for 699 or a Hisense 55 u8k for 799. I know it’s not the same as the qm8 but the tcl is bigger than the hisense and I heard the tcl brand is better. Any Advice ?

    • @mianlo2624
      @mianlo2624 Год назад

      The U8K will have better picture quality (color/lower blooming). However, if you want a bigger size, then go with the TCL QM7.

      If you watch mostly in a bright room go for the Hisense otherwise the q7 will be better and bigger

    I’ve compare my U8H with the QM8. The motion was MUCH better on the U8H. The motion is HORRIBLE on the QM8. Hopefully this gets fixed through and update…or maybe I had a bad QM8. I had to return my TCL to the store.

    Do you need to pay a pro to calibrate the colors in the u8k?

    • @petedetraglia4776
      @petedetraglia4776 Год назад +2

      If you don't have a Calman 4k calibration system YES you will need to pay...and it's not cheap for a really good calibrater to come in your house to do it...That's even if you can find one in your area...Quantum does give out calibration settings if you join for $5.99

    It sorta sucks that when reviewing these tv you compare only the smaller sizes. Most of us buying these TV are looking for 85 to 100" tvs but no review of these larger sizes. The biggest thing is the price of the 98" and 100". The Hisense U89K is $2k to $3k less money than the QM8

    I just wish these 2 brands would bring their good products to europe.
    The models sold here often carry the same name but are very different.
    In Europe TCL and Hisense are absolute dogshit unfortunately.
