My favourite homemade crystal tutorial from the borax, painting and jewellery making. RUclipsrs should provide more information like this. Excellent work! - Gizella's Life
Loved this tutorial. You explained everything so well and very clearly. I made some of these crystals today. I left it in for 12 hours. However, one of my charms turned white while it was drying. The other charm still held its color. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'm making more crystals. Keep your videos coming!!!
I did find a less expensive silver or gold to paint around the edges. The one mentioned is 9.99 at Michaels. I happened to pick up some Testors brand of model paints, gold and silver for 1.79 each. Having used the one in the video, they are both the same type of paint. The Liquid Leaf is 22 ml, and the Testors is 7.4 ml. Much better way to test it out without spending much. Also you can clean your brush with Oderless Mineral Spirits, get it at a hardware store to save $$ and get more. Can't wait to make the crystals. Great video!
i am 63 and i didnt know you could do this,,the crystal growing kits dont work this well,,i wonder how sturdy these crystals really are,,this is stunning,,,wow thanks so much
These are pretty and fun to make. But they are made in an aqueous solution, meaning you will have to keep it protected from water, heat, cold and sunlight. borax is also toxic so you wouldn't want to make anything that could irritate your skin or be put in anyone's mouth (like if you have a small child who likes to grab your jewelry Borax jewelry would not be a good choice for you) If you want it to be sturdy, you will need to coat in resin or acrylic. Honestly this is basically mimicking druzy, which you can find very very cheap in a rainbow of colors. This idea would be really great for the home decor projects though.
This is such a wonderful tutorial! My home is about to be LIT with crystals LOL! I like the cylinder ones better because after watching how you made the large round ones, all I could see was the pipe cleaner shape behind the crystals 😂 I feel like the pipe cleaners are less apparent in the smaller ones. Then again before I watched you make them I didn't notice the pipe cleaners at all
I'm so glad I found your tutorial, I'm going to make some jewellery for a friend of mine. She loves homemade things rather than bought. Thank you so much!
This is cool! I just bought a big box of Borax (for $4 you can't go wrong!) to use as solder flux because it's cheaper than flux you buy and is truly a versatile product. I figured if I failed at soldering jewelry, I could use it for cleaning but this looks like a more fun experiment AND you can make jewelry with it! Yay! 👍 Thanks! 😊
Thank you for such a great detailed video. Wondered how to make then bigger!! Thank you. Also a tip for you..you can clean your brush that you use for the metallic leaf with alcohol and it will come clean! I do it all the time. (Still I use an old brush though)
AWESOME!!! You just gave me the solution to a problem/ One question...do they dissolve if they get wet and, if so, would spraying with something to seal them keep them from dissolving?
thank you for sharing this, im trying this, this week for a sale a friend is having & im taking a few of my crafts there to sale, so thanks for the creative ideas. Keep your creativity idea's flowing. God Bless
Oh my God,the best video ever...I love love love this and I can get creative ty so much for explaining this so well...I love crystals and it's the more I use the bigger the crystal ty so much..I will start making these..
Kris M Yes, I would pull it out after a couple hours and see how the crystals are forming. If you like it then pull it out, if not just pop it back in for an hour or two. Thank you for watching :)
Good tutorial! Thank you. Does anyone know if these need to be sealed before wearing? And if so, with what? I scrolled through the first couple hundred comments and didn’t see anything
Jalyn kawakami I got it at Michael’s Craft Store in the jewelry making area. It was called the “Bead Landing™ Jump Ring Mix”. Thank you for watching :)
When you're making the crystals can you put them outside will they deteriorate if they would stay outside I would love you too let me know if that would work and is it fragile to the skin
How do you know the end colour? I see your mixture looks orange but the final crystal is pink. Any colour guide? 😍 Also can you use acrylic paint or only food colouring?
this is one of the best youtube sites I have seen on this subject. However, do you know how to turn the crystals, that that form in the containers, glass container, back into solution? Also, what do you do with the remaining liquid solution that is in the glass? I mean how do you get rid of it. Thanks.
Approximately how many drops of food color do you apply to the small one and to the large one to get the colors shown? Thanks for the video, good project and explanations!
Thank you so much for this!!!! This is the only video I found that gave GREAT details!!! You made everything so simple and now I have a better understanding on how to made them!!!You are awesome!!!!!😍🥰😍🥰 Tfs........
How do you make the jewelry more sturdy? Do you paint them with clear nail polish, or modpodge or what? Or are they fairly sturdy on their own? I am just really worried about how fragile they appear to be from the crystals being made of Borax. Did you have good luck with Borax vs Alum, or Salt crystals, which was the most sturdy for jewelry? The kids are just really worried that all that work could be lost if someone bumped them during wear. Also, are they water proof, as in if you were wearing them and it started to rain, or when washing hands etc, do they just melt? Sorry for all the questinons but we are doing this in our homeschool, and have never done it before, and you have inspired the girls to want to make them into jewelry! Thank you for being so understandable and relateable for even kids watching your videos!
I painted mine with gold paint, looked great 2 weeks later the gold had disappeared and it was a wierd blue colour. Only thing I can think of is that the crystals are absorbing it. Any advice plz? X
So if the crystal is fragile enough to pull off the string and all... wouldn't it be kinda too fragile for jewelry? would they end up melting if they got wet?
@@WildDivaNymph I think they are going to dissolve over time like that. And it will probably be dangerous for the fish so I don't suggest it. Although resin is stronger. Its up to u:)
Aria Fp What kind of coating would you suggest for outdoors in the rain and sun? Have you tried any of these... clear engine enamel, clear acrylic high gloss, clear laquer spray paint, mod podge resin..?
hi, thanks for this video and subtitles. can we put two pipe cleaners in one beaker of hot water at the same time because lots of borax powder is used for one crystal item. and in hot water , can we put acrylic paint also instead of food colour ? I want for mixed media art.
These are so beautiful. Love you're choice of colors. I want to make these, they would make great gifts. I like how you painted the back, it looks great for jewelry. Can the solution be reused if you rewarm and add more borax? Thank you so much
So I made these for the first time tonight. The crystals look beautiful, however all but one of them have pipcleaners visible! I don't know what I did wrong :( I left them in the solution longer than 8 hours (did it overnight while sleeping) but they aren't completely crystallized, about 80/20. Thoughts?
Hi I love your video and all the tips but i also have a cuestion, do i need to wait for the boiling water to cool down before i put the pipe cleaner inside ???
Very neat! I think I've just found a new science lab experiment for my students.
Tash131 My son had a blast making them with me... hopefully your students love it too :) Thank you for watching!
Beanana711 my students loved it!
Are these crystals brittle?
Can you use Pink Himalayan Salt instead of borax ? ✨ love this video, very encouraging and easy to follow!!
Classy Sugaa um I don’t think so, but Epsom salt works!
You give detail very well, I'm impressed. You made an old lady happy.

I made these and they turned out fine just don't put them in water. If you want them to last, cote them with clear nail polish.
Hey! Did the nail polish work ok? Did it ruin the shinyness?
I'd use resin so it won't get sticky and gross 😓👍

@@SkaterChick1972 nope it didnt
@@Dark_Lord-7392. for those of us who don't have resin clear nail polish comes easier. But if u have resin I do recommend using that:)

Do you seal it with acrylic to keep it from dissolving when worn with body heat or dampness?
Will it resist if it falls on the floor. It looks lovely will try it
Just bought all the ingredients. Looking forward to making these tonight!

Nice, thanks for sharing 😊 can we use other things besides pipe cleaners?
❓❓
Since Borax dissolves in water, shouldn't you seal it with something to keep it from getting wet? If so, what kind of sealer do I need? Thanks? 🙂
I guess u can use nail polish
I love it! Now will the crystals rub off on your clothing? Do I have to put a seal on it? *In other words, how do I preserve them?*
You can paint them with a layer of clear nail polish
Pantaloon Will clear nail polish protect them from the rain if I want them outside?
Awesome idea! How would you control the size, if your were to make a ring and you don't want a huge one? Leave it in the liquid for a shorter time?

Kris M Also, starting with a smaller pipe cleaner shape. Maybe 1/2 instead of the full one I used.
can you reuse the borax solution or do you have to make new solution every time?
You can depending on hard water but the crystals tend to be smaller. Eventually you would need to mix more. Hope that helps :) TFW
Good tutorial! Thank you.
Does anyone know if these need to be sealed before wearing? And if so, with what? I scrolled through the first couple hundred comments and didn’t see anything

Thank you dear for this beautiful video. I just want to know the temp of water during mixing Borax,
so a mason jar or a jar with a tight lid would be good you can put the lid on and shake the solution to help with incorpution into the solution
NATHAN NEVILLE Yup, that would work great :) TFW
Love this video! I can’t find eye pins, roll of chain, or the rings? Where do I find them and what’s their correct names.
These look great. Is anything like a sealant needed to prevent them from flaking or dissolving in high humidity? (I live in the very humid south.)
They are beautiful love the colours very neat, great idea will have to try it, thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for providing measurements...borax to water ratio!!😊

They do dissolve if u put them in water or any liquid. I would suggest coating and sealing them with resin or clear nail polish.

I know that you said that the crystals are easy to crunch, but can you file them...like, really carefully?
Do you think you could use sandpaper or a crafting knife to sculpt the crystals into a shape you want?
Thank you 😊 for sharing... have you twisted you pipe cleaner into shapes like teddy bears or mane of a lion 🦁
Can you clear those afterwards and would you want to as a way of giving the crystal more strength?

Mine did the same thing... I'm thinking not enough borax.
Either not enough borax or the water wasn't hot enough to completely dissolve everything
Mine the coloring disappeared as it dried! Plus pipe cleaners were showing? Help what caused it?
I will have so much fun with this & my granddaughters too.
Hey!! So I made these last night. It worked but they are not as shiny as yours! And more opaque. What can I do to fix that? Thanks!!
Hi I love your video and all the tips but i also have a cuestion, do i need to wait for the boiling water to cool down before i put the pipe cleaner inside ???
Nope, as long as the borax is dissolved you should be good to go :) TFW
This is boiling water or cold water and how long I put it in the water and porax
Sara Rashed she says in the video quite a few times that the water was boiled. The borax would have a hard time dissolving in cold water.
