    This is a really fun backpack project and nice change of pace from focusing on more outdoor related packs and apparel. With increasing travel for work, having a few options for bags in various sizes really helps to optimize packing especially for short 1-2 night trips. I'm excited to release this sewing pattern and look forward to seeing your version of Porter Pony.

    Dang, just bought the fastpack pattern today and could definitely put this 20L to good use too! Any thoughts on a lifetime membership pass to future patterns? DIAS shorts is on my list too!

    Great pack, and love the new video format. Hopefully going to find time to make this and a couple Porters this spring.

    Would this be doable on a Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine? Like the 4423?
    Also I'm really glad to have found your channel! Lots of cool stuff and it's great that you go into detail like the direction of the stretch fabric for the water bottle pocket when sewing it, something that might be overlooked by a beginner like me 😅
    Thank you!

    Looking forward to getting the pattern! Any thoughts on turning that secondary top zipper into a little quick access compartment, like on the Evergoods CHZ22?

    • @LearnMYOG
      @LearnMYOG  8 месяцев назад +1

      It would compete with internal volume. I’d just make a zip box pouch that sits inside the pack and accessible like I show my tech pouch. Far easier construction as well. An Evergoods pack I saw had a yoke pocket which is a more complicated assembly but better location as it doesn’t take up internal packing space.

    I’d like to see you tackle cook kits. Making alcohol stoves, as well as twig/hobo/gasification stoves is addictive. Foster’s pot too, since cutting it uses same cutting skills as used for the alcohol stoves. Same for soda can windscreens. Then there’s adding ridges to pots, adding capacity markers (lines) which is unnecessary but helpful. So much fun making pot cozies (insulation), lids, pot stands, etc.

      I’ve made my fair share of alcohol Penny stoves and cat can stoves for esbit.

    Hi! I‘m plan to sew a backpack for carryon for flights. The airlines i travel usually with have limits of 40x20x25 centimeters. Would love to sew your backpack. It looks great. How are the measurements of it? If it is bigger than 40x20x25 cm, will it be easy to customize? Thanks! Best, Sabine

      See my site for more info. Here’s the size: The Porter Pony is a 20L panel loading backpack measuring approximately 11 x 18 x 6 inches (28 x 46 x 15 cm). It’s not a simple rectangle so imagine you’d be fine as is. Pattern adjustments would be needed to shorten the length but I don’t provide those instructions. It’s not hard and I’d recommend you prototype first.

    I'd love to make this bag, but Tex 40 thread is suggested and my machine will take 45 at the lowest. Could I potentially use Tex70 with a size 18 needle? Cheers!

    • @LearnMYOG
      @LearnMYOG  8 месяцев назад

      Tex 70 is thicker than Tex 40. If using Gutermann thread, their number is inverse the Tex pattern. Mara100 is thinner than Mara50 for example. Gutermann Sew-All (Mara100) would be fine. I personally prefer Mara70 as it’s a bit thicker and stronger.

    • @LearnMYOG
      @LearnMYOG  8 месяцев назад

      Oh maybe I’m confused. Maybe you have a heavier machine. You can use Tex 70 like a bonded nylon. That’s no problem. Just size the needle to whatever thread you’ll use. May want to pick heavier lining fabric as your machine may eat the light nylons.

      You can’t buy this bag, just the pattern off his website in the video description and then make it yourself. You could modify it to have the features you want.
