- "A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it."
Few times can that maxim be demonstrated as clearly as by the Smith & Wesson revolvers shown here. Two used by an American hero and model law enforcement officer. The other used by police chief so corrupt he was unfit to wear the badge. But good cop or bad cop, their Smith & Wesson revolvers never knew it.
Both men carried classic Smith & Wesson revolvers made popular in no small part by their adoption by police officers across the country. These are the guns they carried and these are the stories they tell.

Prolly wore out by now. Toss it and get a new one.
The guns are great but your description and the story make them seem bigger than life looking forward to more videos from you
Yeah that Chief Special is one cool customer.
"I wouldn't say there are a lot of chiefs there but the only thing lacking is a wigwam;" a quote from Get Smart by both Maxwell Smart and Konrad Seigfried. On the topic of crooked police, Oh yes I have met a few throughout my life from Long Beach, CA to other areas of California. I remember as a young boy growing up in Long Beach my Grandfather would take me to a barber shop which, had a bookie area in the back and my Grandfather would tell me, "What went on inside the business stayed inside the business." One day we were getting our hair cuts when the Long Beach Chief of Police comes in and proceeds to place bets at the bookie area for Santa Anita horse racing. I was shocked but since all these people have passed on including my Grandfather I can mention it. Also, one day I was there when I was older and went with my brother, one of the Bonanno's from the West Coast " Families" came in a got a haircut. He didn't place any bets however but it was interesting. How did I know; I had seen his picture in the newspaper a couple of months before. I said nothing; got the haircut and left the barbershop.
👍 I enjoyed this presentation and the classic S&W revolvers.
I just love anything with Joel in it. He makes those guns live with his stories about them and the people who owned them. Thank you again for yet another great video!
Hats off to ALL involved in making these presentations.
I really want a 586 with some custom rosewood grips. Real fucking cool
It'd be nice if one if the major distributors would order a series of 5 and 686es with a vent rib on the barrels
"despite being married to a Madam, he was allergic to penicillin...."
LOL !
Absolutely superb presentation and narration throughout the video, a masterclass!
I was named after Shane but I've never seen it, need to fix that
Excellent!! Traditionally American.
yowza ... some NICE guns .
I love Smith Revolvers.
That gave me wood!
Love em!!!!
Excellent video
I love my early 50/51 post-war S&W Regulation Police in .38s&w caliber I-frame 4 in. barrel blue steel and its diamond grips and I understand why these early Smithy's are tack drivers and I wouldn't take anything for it !!! I want to collect at least 3 or 4 more early to late 50's Smith's but they are getting tougher to find these days for sale at least !!!
Wow 👌 👏
Awesome looking S&W’s…A cop that’s crooked in California, what a surprise!
Even being considered as a criminal I would not want the corrupt police chief gun over the heroes gun. We have a corrupt police problem in my city and the reason I believe that I became a criminal.
Good, Bad, and Ugly? But Smith & Wesson ain't ugly!
Lol penicillin...
I know right ? ha .
I was waiting for you to say Chicago. Fresno?
Please give a little more close-ups of the guns, this is a constant problem in the videos
Incidentally, it is puzzling why police used revolvers in the U.S.still in the 1980s, when double-stack high-capacity magazine pistols appeared for about 40 years ago.
Many police officers could have died due to low ammunition capacity revolvers for example in the 1986 FBI Miami shootout where clearly the two criminals were superior only because FBI agents were equipped with outdated weapons
@im It was the Hi-Cap 9mm auto pistols that failed miserably in the 1986 FBI Miami shootout! The Winchester 115gr 9mm ammo failed to stop, even though both bad guys were hit 13 times by 9mm bullets. The handgun that actually ended the fight was the S&W 686 revolver firing the consistently street proven 38 Special +P 158 Grain Lead Semi Wadcutter Hollow Point!
At the very start of the fight, Mini 14 Bad Guy(I do not use the names of these scum bags) had been hit in the upper chest by a 9mm bullet that failed to penetrate to the heart, allowing him to kill and wound 7 FBI agents, even though his lung was severely hemorrhaging! Had that upper chest hit been by the heavier, deeper penetrating 158 Grain 38 Special bullet, Mini 14 Bad Guy would have been down almost instantly, effectively ending the fight before it even started!
The Wikipedia article on the 1986 shootout is now fairly accurate, having been corrected to follow the detailed, comprehensive forensic analysis by Dr. W. French Anderson, MD.
American Law enforcement held on to revolvers well into the late 20th Century for good reason. Revolvers are much more accurate to longer ranges than auto pistols, and fire much more powerful cartridges. In rural areas an American Police Officer may have been more likely to face a large bear, or other wild animal, and a 9mm auto is marginal at best for such an encounter. Better to have a 357 Mag / 44 Mag or 45 Colt revolver for those encounters! Even today many rural Police Departments are beginning to move back toward larger caliber pistol caliber lever action rifles, in place of the AR 15 or similar auto rifles. A 357 Mag, 44 Mag or 45 Colt is a heck of a lot more effective against a large animal, than the 5.56 X 45 NATO round!
Sorry, you waffle too much. Won't visit this site again.
