I'm crazy enough into the Shantae series that I already own and played a Chinese reproduction cartridge of the original game, yet I ordered it on both Switch and Game Boy Color through Limited Run Games. Can't wait to get them.
Man, the first game is probably the most cohesive in design, I just wish the levels didn’t feel so empty. But the size of the overworld between levels is awesome for a GBC game, and it still controls very well. I’d probably put it right behind Pirate’s Curse in a ranking of best Shantae games.
I hope the direction inputed dance system comes back in a future title. I know they scrapped it to simplify and speed up transforming but it was just so fun to transform with direction inputed dances!
I mean, You can play Mother 1, 2 and 3 all in GBA, and if you have a japanese Wii U with the japanese EShop, you can the same there. However, no complete collection for the rest of the world... Japanese are lucky.
You can blame the Tomato for making Mother 3 rereleased, as their transition was so well done, that it literally shut Nintendo down any opportunity to do it themselves, as the fans would start seeing tomato’s as superior, while making Nintendo look like a laughing stock by comparison, so if it weren’t for tomato, it would of existed, besides it does explain why Nintendo hasn’t sent a Cease and desist to him yet after all these years, doesn’t it. Note: I like tomato’s translation, and hope it does not get taken down, & sorry if the comment sounds condescending.

Well, only one nodern plataform officially.... I dunno about the type of license that the original shantae have with nintendo, but this need to be port tp all modern consoles (and well, Xbox can emulate gameboy games with some apps or by nesbox site)

People have been speculating that the Nintendo exclusivity could be a sign they had a deal with them and she might be a playable character in Smash this year. But, that's just wishful thinking. I do hope they bring this to other platforms too eventually. We'll see!
Same this looks like its gonna be a blast :>. I have all 5 of em digital. They are super addictive and remind me alot of the legend of zelda series especially with dungeons and all. I like open world stuff or exploration that doesn't limit which direction you move in.
Since I got a really late start to the Shantae series and enjoyed the other 4 games, I have been dying to know when the original would be added to the Switch. It is coming sooner than I expected. I'm so excited
This game was an absolute masterpiece of a GBC game. The single most impressive use of the GBC hardware. It's a shame the original release was so long after the GBA came out that it got overlooked at the time.
Also, it didn't help that Capcom only produced 25,000 units and refused to produce more after they sold out; so not even word of mouth could save the original. Thankfully, their name is scrubbed clean off of this re-release, and thank goodness for digital distribution, basically lifting this entire franchise from what would have been death.
I had the original cartridge bought brand new at the time. Sold it for around 250$ around a decade ago. Then, I bought the digital version on 3DS for 5$. Along all the rest for 3DS and PS Vita. Look like I'll buy all the Shantaes again so they can be together on the same console!
Thank you for adding the GBA mode to the game. This was missing from the 3DS port and finally people can experience the game in full like it was meant to be.
I think it's great that Shantae GBC is widely available for good now. It was a big deal when it hit the 3DS, but having it on the Switch, a extremely popular console, will be great for the gaming community and WayForward!

Ah, I love the original Shantae! This is gonna be great! I ordered my physical copy from Limited Run Games first chance I could and I'm excitedly looking forward to getting it. Got both the Switch and GBC version. I first played this on 3DS when I was going through a rough patch and, though I wasn't able to finish it at the time cause life got in the way and I totally lost track of what I was supposed to do, it ended up inspiring a massive 2D gaming kick that I've been riding ever since! Looking forward to getting into it for the full ride and enjoying those amazing tunes throughout
This is wonderful. I remember having a lot of fun playing this classic on my 3DS. It's great that it comes to the Nintendo Switch so that more people get to know this gem.
The menu looks like the ones from Shantae: HGH Ultimate Edition and Mighty Switch Force! Collection. I hope Mighty Flip Champs DX and Mighty Milky Way get a 2-in-1 port.

For those who need a reminder, this is at least the second re-release of this game. It's still on WiiU too, so it was never in danger of going away. Just be appreciative of this new release.
Even if I get this digitally, I am glad WayForward is giving us ways to get this in legal form without having to pay an arm and a leg (and maybe a kidney) for a copy.
I love this game! The only thing I don't like is having to hold the attack button to run. :( I have it on the 3DS but if you ever do a physical Switch release (along with Risky's Revenge) I would buy that right up!
I remember asking them on Twitter if they're were going to update the original to a remake format or a remastered few years ago. But the worst part about asking is some asshole reply where they said the company shouldn't do it and just make new games instead of updating a old original for new consoles
I've always been kinda curious about this series, and I'm the kind of guy who prefers to start a new series from the beginning rather than jumping in somewhere in the middle.
I was a teenage boy in 2002, and adored the GameBoy Color. I bought Shantae as a random purchase simply because it was an attractive girl in what looked like a bikini on the cover. Little did I realize I had purchased not only an outstanding game, but one that would go on to be a holy grail fetching hundreds and hundreds of dollars as the years went on. I'm happy to see Shantae getting a Switch port so people can see for themselves how absolutely brilliant it is. It's a little disappointing this Switch version appears to simply be a port rather than offering greater screen resolution (screen crunch is a problem as it is any GBC platformer) but eh, the game is still one of the finest ever made.
The original Shantae game from the Nintendo Gameboy Color is a nostalgic classic brought to the Modern Nintendo Switch, cause Shantae is Ret-To-Go!👼. That and potentially she'll be joining in Smash Bros Ultimate as well.😉💌

I seem to suck at that mechanic... not sure why though. Part of why I find the first one much harder than the rest.
