  • Here is how I made a guitar painting close to a pro result, only with spray can and in my little garage!
    I'm an amateur DIYer trying to learn how to make guitars in my little workshop. I'm not a professional luthier and I'm equipped as a "Sunday handyman", so bear with me :)
    Subscribe to follow me in this adventure until the end of the project! Have a nice time!
    The musics used are mine.

    [EN] - Some datas :)
    - 8 days of work spread over 6 weekends (mostly drying time)
    - 2 cans of primer, 1 can of pink paint, 1 can of glitter and 2 and a half cans of varnish (I need to figure out what to do with the rest of the varnish before it's wasted)
    - 135€ of paint and sanding paper, without counting the polishing products and the polishing foam...
    I hope this made you want to try it, have fun!
    ---------
    [FR] - Quelques stats :)
    - 135€ de peinture et de papier à poncer, sans compter les produits de lustrage et les mousse de polissage
    J'espère que ça vous a donné envie d'essayer, have fun !

      To avoid sanding off most of your base layer of primer, shoot a layer of clear lacquer or sanding sealer first (and let it cure properly). Level that layer before applying the primer. It makes the process thereafter much faster.

    • @peachmelba1000
      @peachmelba1000 Год назад

      Aussi, si vous en avez une, apportez une impermiable plastique pour eviter des petits fibres des vestements à poluer le painteure.
      Final result looks great.

      @@peachmelba1000 Yeah, I didn't had sanding sealer at that time. But the main problem for the first layer was my prep sanding... It wasn't clean enough ^^
      It was more work to do, but hey, it works lol 🤷‍♂

      @@FrenchGuitarGuy On my channel, you'll see a short video of an offset Flying V I finished last month. That guitar's finish has three tiny grey fibers in it at various spots. I didn't noticed until after I shot the lacquer lol

    A lot of people don't appreciate the struggle of making or finishing a guitar at home without the proper tools. It's a long, tedious process and usually criticized.
    You did a great job, specially on the custom spray booth! very creative!
    Amazing results!

    I see you have met my arch nemesis… sanding! To me that is the most tedious part of the build. You should spray in controlled passes, not the back and forth motion you use. That’s why you got runs.
    Killer result man.

    That metallic paint from Montana Cans is known for those drips. The nozzles are designed for graffiti murals so they are focused and put a lot of paint in a small area. I had the same problem painting a guitar with the copper metallic. Good job though. You are much more patient than I.

    Beau résultat et très jolie choix de peinture, même si les méthodes employées n'étaient pas très conventionnelles! Pour un meilleur résultat au ponçage n'hésites pas à utiliser des cales à poncer et tu auras moins de travail ensuite. Pour ce qui est de la peinture en bombe ton mouvement doit être rectiligne. Verticalement ou horizontalement mais le spray doit commencer avant de toucher la pièce et terminer après. car quand tu appuies ou relâche alors que tu es encore sur la pièce la pression de la bombe de peinture n'est plus la même et c'est la que tu risque des coulures ou des "pâtés".

    Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien... arghhh les méchantes coulées 😂
    Pour polir à la fin, j'utilise du miror et je polis à la main. Mdr le rasoir 3 têtes 😆
    Un petit tuyau pour poncer avant le bouche pores, je pulvérise de l'eau et je laisse sécher. Ça fait ressortir toutes les petites aspérités du bois. Le rendu est velours.

      Bon courage et merci pour ton commentaire !

    Why sand it?

    • @yeknommonkey
      @yeknommonkey 7 месяцев назад +3

      If you don’t sand it each coat just adds to the bumps of the last making them bigger. If you sand in between coats you’re giving each fresh coat a smoother and smoother surface to lay on as divets are filled and high points are sanded away so you gradually improve the flatness of the surface and eventually can get a mirror like reflection at the top once polished.

  • @jupiterlegrand4817

    Sandpaper should only be sold to licensed professionals. Jeez Louise that was painful to see.

      @FrenchGuitarGuy  Год назад +3

      Ok bro, can you be more precise?

    • @ghalston5641
      @ghalston5641 Год назад +4

      @@FrenchGuitarGuyI think he meant it is better to use a sanding block rather than hands and folded sandpaper. Also, far better to just dust on a coat that you can see through using long strokes that start and end past the surface you are painting. But hell , your end product came out pretty good.
