i live in machesney park it is still great 60 years later
I grew Up by the Machesney Park Mall
At 26:32 you pass Rockford Speedway. It was announced today that track is going to finish hosting races after the 2023 season. 76 years and then gone. This is why I really respect what you are doing to document the Midwest as it exists today. Someday historians will thank you, until then I will. Thanks Chris.
Awesome! Hoo-ray!
Solid research as usual. The only downside to your visit was the season, the slate-gray skies and dormant trees of March. This is a very green and lush corner of the state. Our 4-H club (yes) was named after the three rivers that trisect the area -- the Rock, Pecatonica, and the Sugar. Rockton and Roscoe are crushing it on median household income.
Peckertonica is what someone called it once. 🥴
Machesney Park Mall was kind of a twin of Cherryvale. They opened about the same time. But Machesney Park Mall went belly up just a few years ago. The way it’s going Cherryvale might go belly up in the future. They have lost several large department stores in the past few years.
The Harlem schools are some of the worst you can ever send your kids to you though. Especially if you’re someone someone who cares about your children’s emotional health.
Gosh I remember going to Machesney Park Mall as a kid, I remember a cow being in there and a really tall very dangerous tower for kids to climb.
Nothing but depressing memory is because Harlem is the absolute worst school. You can ever send your kids to, especially if they are a different ethnicity or anything LGBTQ related
I grew up in Roscoe and went to high school with Nicole (Manske)Briscoe and Danica Patrick. Hopefully they are much different as adults.
Danica is still a snobby "B" . True story
Proud Harem graduate. Glad to see my old home town again.
Very nice driving tour👍😊
My great Grandmother lived at the T intersection of McCurry and Hononegah. There used to be a massive red barn as you entered the property but was torn down in the early 2000's
Very well done!
At 42:35 on the right side of the road in Rockton is the absolute best pizza place in the world! Its called Marks and you have to stop in if you ever go that way. Tell him "Brent from Florida sent you!" . Hes a damn good man and that place is just fun to visit and enjoy the best food around! I miss it every day.
My grandparents are buried in Machesney Park. In fact you drove past the cemetery they are buried in at 5:42.
Sunset memorial gardens I have so many relatives buried there I wouldn't be able to list them
Sad how malls across the country have declined so much. I used to spend quite a bit of time at the Machesney Park Mall growing up when it was in its prime.
Thanks for the tours. I hope some things I said gave you some insight into the communities. ✌️
I appreciate your comments!
Two of my granddaughters are graduates of Harlem Middle School. One is a graduate of Harlem High and the other is now a Junior there. I never realized how flat the ground is in Loves Park and Machesney Park
I currently live here it’s not terrible, I’m a high school student and it’s not bad. The school is actually fun and this video was really fun to watch.
I used to ride my bike on Shore Drive in the 1980s. Were more houses then, and looked different. Enjoyable bike ride when not flooded.
HA I remember when Roosevelt Rd was first done with brick/cobbling. It was pretty cool as a kid.
I still like to drive on it when I come into town.
Of course all these areas look much better in the spring and summer.
One small nit-pick/correction about Robin Zander graduating from Harlem. While that's true, he probably never set foot in the school you are passing when you make that comment. At one time, the middle school used to be the Harlem High school. The current high school was built IIRC sometime in the 70's. I know people that were among the first graduating class in the "new" building.
If it’s not close to downtown Rockford, then it must be a nice place to live.
Been looking at places out that way. Rockford, machesney park, loves park. I'm in dupage.
Thankyou💪
Machesney Park: A suburban blob on the map. Sounds about right...
Lol
Facts 😂
@@KCar9 Is that kinda like what pro abortion people say about a fetus? A blob of tissue? 🤔
You drove right by the street I live in🤣
Rockton is my hometown ♥️
Can you do Madison, Green Bay and Milwaukee at some point?
Did you get a chance to try Beef a Roo when you were in the area?
You should do some more Chicago suburbs! There are plenty of cool things to see in Evanston or really any of the others. I love your videos👍
I would love to see him do Aurora and Naperville. In fact I would say if your covering Chicago suburbs Naperville is must.
Thanks! One day I will. Stay tuned.
Chicago suburbs like Mount Carroll, Savanna , Thomson, Chadwick, Milledgeville, Lanark, Shannon, Pearl City, Stockton, East Dubuque, Morrison, Fulton, and Argo Fay. Don’t forget Daggets! 😬😆
@World Culture & Natural Landscapes Except that the mayor is Lori Lightfoot with the heavy hand. 🤮
Yes to north Chicago burbs. Skokie, Evanston, Wilmette. Lots of content there.👍🏻
Yesss one of my biggest complaints is how short our lights are!!
You missed a very nice subdivision across from the river over Hwy 2 called The Woodlands of Rockton. Too bad you missed it..
Hmm.
I wish you would have shown more of Machesney Park. We moved out of Illinois a couple years ago. This brought back alot of memories.
My family moved us out back in 2017 because my parents feared for my safety when I went to Harlem high school, because of how homophobic all the students were
24:18 That’s my school Varsity Football Player Class of 2024 Go Huskies 🖤🧡🖤🧡
Much better music on this video than the Rockford one. I think the NASCAR driver is Danica Patrick, although her bio says born in Beloit, WI. I remember hearing she grew up in either Roscoe or Rockton.
Maybe she was born in the hospital in Beloit. I was born in the former hospital in Savanna but I grew up in Mount Carroll Illinois
Yes there’s a sign commemorating her in Roscoe (Old river rd, I think )she went to Hononegah.
@@dimplesp4046It's on Bridge Street just east of Route 2, and west of 251.
Roscoe was the best place I ever lived, best house ,best neighbors, a forest preserve in our back yard and fairly low taxes. I still miss it.
Roscoe has the best Culver’s ever!
8:08 not too far away from my old house on Ventura
I still wish I could make traffic lights turn green as fast as you can. 😏 Especially when I’m in a hurry to get somewhere and the traffic lights are taking forever to go to green. It almost makes me wanna go and buy a fire truck. They have controls to make traffic lights change to green. 😬
Owned a home in Roscoe for several years. On Hayloft lane.
Too bad you didn’t come to Rockton this week 😆
Haha saw the news. Hope everyone’s safe and their homes can stay free of damage.
25:52 looks like it’s really downtown Machesney Park.
You would have shown more of historic Rockton. If you would have drove around out by the old Wagon Wheel lodge.
And WRWC a former radio station in Rockton.
Just drove by the Rockford speedway one of the most visited places in Machesney by out of towners
The speedway is technically in Loves Park.
@@js9125 It’s always better in loves park.
These are NOT suburbs of Rockford they are their own towns. Machesney park used to be called North Park as part of the Harlem township. Would of loved taking you round, lived here forever now 67, sure would of shown you more and saved you a ton of backtracking. The jr high used to be the high school. 1975 new one opened, we were the first graduating class from there, very mixed feeling within student body. Oh the history you missed. Totally right on top of the industrial area but bypassed it. But you did give me some luaghs with all your backtracking, i wasliterally thinking turn here but you didnt. Love your channel, just wish not so many ads.
Did you see any geese nesting on the top of the Machesney Park Mall?
Not that I can remember.
@@ChrisHarden I remember a few years ago the Walmart in Loves Park had a skid of summer merchandise in their parking lot and a goose put its nest on top of it. The employees just roped off the skid until the goose finally left. Geese can get pretty vicious if they are disturbed when they are nesting.
These places do not report crime BUT crime happens A LOT... and drug use is high here and everywhere... ITS NOT REPORTED. 🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂
She was just saying that
Roosevelt Road is cool because some of it is paved with bricks and the tires make a cool noise when you go over the bricks.
Should’ve driven through Shirland while you were at it
I love Shirland. If I decided to stay in Illinois I would've moved to Shirland, but im back home in Florida now. Had to get away from the cold crappy Neverending winters, high taxes, stupid cops and far left commie politics. They sure can ruin a nice place.
Roscoe Bosco. Roscoe and Rockton are pretty much rivals.
Im from Florida but lived in Rockton after getting out of the Army. It was a nice town but a disaster because of the ridiculous far left politics and the Barney Fife commie cops who sit around just dying to make the next arrest whether they need to be arrested or not. Im just glad to be back home in beautiful sunny Florida. 🤣👍
Woodward INK.
Shore Drive is a bad place to live because of the threat of flooding. Yet people live there. 🤔
Hello
Harlem 07
Have you ever travel the length of burr oak road in roscoe, story has it that Abe Lincoln walk this road????.
Entertainment at Walmart?🤔
More Little Houses Made of Ticky Tacky.
Ticky tacky all look the same!
Drab. Not even Picasso could paint an interesting picture of Rockford.
