- The video gives you a video tutorial how to repair a broken DME (digital motor electronics) relay. A broken relay is one of the typical reasons when a Porsche 944 is not running. The relay is activated by the motor electronics and gives the power to the fuel pump and to the ignition. In most cases resoldering the relay solves the problem.
Das Video gibt eine Anleitung zur Reparatur eines defekten DME (Digitale Motor Elektronik) Relais. Ein defektes Relais ist einer der typischen Ursachen wenn ein Porsche 944 nicht mehr läuft. Das Relais wird von der Elektronik angesteuert und versorgt die Benzinpumpe und die Zündung mit Spannung. In den meisten Fällen löst ein Nachlöten der Kontakte das Problem.

Gut erklärt, ich glaube jeder hatte schon mal Probleme mit dem DME Relais, ich hatte mir daraufhin ein überbrücktes Relais für notfälle ins Handschuhfach gelegt.

Nice video. But I have wondered if in the long run it wouldn't be better to make an adapter to utilize two standard relays. Using standard relays would provide more options for choosing a better quality design, and also if one were to ever fail, it would be much easier to find and less expensive.
In principle you are right, the relay could be replaced by two standard relays. This might be an option for the future, In the moment, the original relay is still available, and the remade relay is also fine for many years more.
The problem isn't with the added complexity of the dual-relay or the design, but with the solder joints. I keep a new spare relay in my 993 (new 993 part number as opposed to the original 944 part number of the relay) but after de-soldering all the contacts and then re-soldering them all with fresh solder, I know this relay will last another 15 years. The contacts on my original relay (date code 210295) after more than 15 years were still like new.
Hi great video. If i connect a +ve lead to both 86 & 30 both relays move (i have taken the cover off and have a ground to 85&85b). Does this mean its ok?
Spencer Matthews Not completely, the soldering points of the output 87b could still have problems. And the main problem is that the bad soldering points can work one day and the next day not. Best is, to resolder all points and the relay ist fine again,

Hello there and first I want to say this is the best video on dme sensor, and now for that I want to ask you if you can help me with my 944 83, I did all the testes with my dme sensor and is all good 1st test and 2nd test 12v all good and mecanics too, but when i put it in the car and try to start I see that it only clicks the fist one and not the second ralay? and the car will not run, but if i push the secong click manualy i hear the pump and them the car starts? what could this be? thank you.

Hello there! Well thanks for the reply, yesterday I had chance the diode for a new one before I tested today following your manual, now I was there looking at the sensors and tested all and i see the cable on the relay box candy of loose the with some very hard work move the relay box some what down and push the cable that look loose back in the connector case and the first try the car didn't start them i put the jump on the second relay and before when i did take out the car would stop but this time it did not stopped 🙃, them o turn it of and try and guess what?! The car starts!!!😱 and i try like 5 times and it looks good now!👌🏻🤓thank you! Tomorrow i will take it for a ride and o will good buy me some carpet and a bulb for the rood! Thank you and good day!
Super !! Hat mir geholfen meinen S2 wieder starten zu können. Hatte zwar keine Bruchstelle an den Lötstellen, aber die Kontakte in den beiden Relais waren oxidiert, weswegen die Benzinpumpe nicht startete.
Frage und Bitte an Sie: könnten Sie in einem Video erklären, wie man die Frontscheiben-Defroster Stellung wieder funktionsfähig macht? Schalter steuert die Verstellung der Klappen offensichtlich an, jedoch kein Luftaustritt?
Wenn das möglich wäre, vielen Dank im Voraus!
Hallo, könnte ein Problem mit dem Steuergerät der automatischen Heizungsreglung sein. Ich habe so ein Steuergerät mal geöffnet, ist nicht viel zu machen. Viele Grüße, Jürgen

Hallo, tolles Video! Mein 944 ist letztes Jahr beim Fahren einfach ausgegangen. Verdacht war DME Relais oder Benzinpumpe. Nach Tagen des Experimentierens und Beobachtens hat der Mechaniker aufgegeben. Der Wagen sprang wieder an, aber kein Fehler gefunden. Jetzt geht unregelmäßig einfach die Alarmanlage an und beim Lichtausschalten klappen die Scheinwerfer 20x ein und aus bis ich erneut ein- und ausschalte. Kann das ein Masseproblem sein? Und wo sitzt der /die Massesterne? VG, Uli
Möglich, die Massenpunkte hängen vom Modell ab. Die Punkte stehen im Schaltplan. Viele Grüße, Jürgen
A 1982 944 tends to not start if it has run for some time. After some cool down it will start again. Would you guess it is the DME as well?
Ein 82'er 944 geht nicht mehr an, wenn er warm ist. Nach einer Weile startet er wieder. Könnte das auch an einem defekten DME Relais liegen?
Did you figure out your problem? Mine has been running fine and after being turned off for only a few hours it won't start. Turns over, fires, but stops

Danke für die sehr gute und ausführliche Beschreibung.
Aber es ist ne Schande, dass unsere Ingenieure zu dämlich waren und es offensichtlich auch noch sind, ein einfaches Relais so herzustellen, dass es mehrere 10.000 Schaltvorgänge problemlos übersteht.
Ich weiß, dass wir einen riesigen Fachkräftemangel haben, aber warum lassen wir dann solche für uns zu komplexen Bauteile nicht einfach in Afrika oder woanders entwickeln.
Eine Schande für den Standort Deutschland.
