I was NOT looking anywhere near cameras or camera reviews but for whatever reason your video was there and I watched it. This was a really well made video. Really nice art, man.
I have been wondering: everyone talks about how 'cinematic' or 'film like' cameras can be. Why don't we just bring back film? Make the home processing process really streamlined and have a race to build the smallest, fastest and cheapest film processing home units?
@@zimmhone FIlm was back bro but the prices got raised too often and now its just to expensive so everyone is looking for digital alternatives thats why these small old cameras are the hype now
@@zimmhone I do shoot film too. Love it. I guess digital always had to live up to film. Was a kind of benchmark digital was aiming for but with more resolution. There is a beauty to the organic grain (pixel) structure of film. If some digital cameras can capture that feel then it would be super for film lovers who can’t afford to shoot film 🙂
@@zimmhone Because it's like 100x cheaper to simulate film (and it's more flexible and less labor) just no reason to go film unless you have a really specific project.
Edward, first, thank you for being a calm, methodical speaker with no crazy gimmicks!! Loved this video; it explains exactly what the Ricoh is. You have a new subscriber.
I can just tell that you're going to have 100k subscribers by the end of this year. You have a great ability to tell the viewer information, while also forming a story. I'm excited to see you grow :)
I sold my X100V and bought both Ricohs with the money. (and still had some left) Not an easy decision because I loved the Fuji film simulations. But I take so many more photos with the Ricohs because I always have one with me. Oh and btw. I love the gray jacket you are wearing in this video - it looks so clean!
I like the GR series, good video. Honestly, if you want a more filmic look in a digital camera, you can't beat the early and mid 00s digicams with CCD sensors IMO. They have zoom lenses so you arent stuck at a wide focal length, many have IS, some also have an ND filter built in (like my Nikon CoolPix P7100) and they are much, much cheaper. Any of the older Fuji Finepix with the SuperCCD sensors are the closest to film in a digital camera Ive ever seen. Especially if you can get one of the EXR models like my F70EXR that was one of the first to get the film simulations like Provia, Velvia and Astia. I picked up mine for $45.
Great video! I’m a Fuji 100F user, but almost picked up the Ricoh when I was in the market. Both are incredible cameras. I was really intrigued by the idea of printing my shots. I currently don’t have a printer that could produce the quality I would want unfortunately. I would love to see a video in the future about how to print your own pictures; and if you don’t have a printer, where you recommend getting prints. I love the size and border of your prints.
Very good video. He gives his main message up front, clearly and from the heart. One can tell that he has experience and he can back up his assertions. I kinda want that camera now…….
Even though I'm shooting film exclusively for 2023, no way I'm getting rid of my GRIII. Eventually I know i'll go back to it. 2, 3 years later.. doesn't matter, it's worth keeping until then. Great video brother.
I have both the Ricoh's and they are fantastic, but not for everyone. I recently printed a book on my walk to work over the last twelve months, it only takes me ten minutes to get to work. Its quite mad the different light and weather you take for granted on that small journey. Good luck with your channel.
Printing is good. When people get older and pass away family will look around the house and see prints. Not hard drives and usb sticks and social media. I do think its still important to backup files and tell family about those backup files.
i've always kind of wanted to start taking photos but never got around to it. couple months ago this video got on my feed and i watched it and loved the vid, looked up more on this camera, then other cameras and eventually bought a fuji camera. now i love taking photos and take it with me everywhere. all thanks to you my dude. thanks for this great vid.
I'm in agreement. I have the Fuji XT2 which is small but even so, if I get a wider lens to shoot my preferred style at 28mm (18mm the Fuji) it will make the camera bulkier. So yes Ricoh ticks the boxes for portability and wide angle. In fact my minimal less bulk approach means I use a camera phone mostly - again around 28mm equivalent - in fact the phone got me to liking that angle. Also printing out is a great idea - but also books are nice too.
youtube algorithm can surprise sometimes. if there is a small film like digicam, it's the Sigma fixed lens cameras, also the OG of this segment. Not only the operation and focus is like film, the output from RAW images also like film. I was going into Ricoh GR but then the tech is so old now like Ricoh has no love for GR anymore. For street, stealth, convenience, nothign beats a smartphone besides it can also shoot good video. The dynamic range on photos and videos from smartphones also insane. I used to shoot RAW exclusively prior smartphone.
This video was amazing, I appreciate how you gave the review so genuinely and also your printed pictures are awesome 🙌🏾 The camera looks perfect the size and picture quality is amazing.
I went to the the GRiii just under a year ago from Fuji ...no regrets. Every time I shoot with the Ricoh I end up with a smile on my face and a feeling of disbelief at the quality available from the GRiii, not only is it portable and a delight to use but the lens is fantastic.
Your life seems anything but mundane and you've got the shots to prove it. You are choosing to see beauty where others may not! Beautiful work here young man! You have inspired me to look in this direction as I've wanted to get into photography and was considering all those multi-lens DSLRs. I absolutely love the quality of image you're getting here and have to reconsider. Love the portability of point and shoot right out of a pocket. Thanks for sharing your work and this info. Much love, health, happiness and success to you! Your eye will make you richer than you know and it has nothing to do with finances! Although you can certainly go far with that eye of yours!
I have the GR DIGITAL II (2007) and oh my, what a great camera that was at that time, you don't even need a bag for it. I have yet to get one, coz I get more and more used to using the phone camera. But with the APSC sensor, I might consider it again when the next GR is available. With this camera, you can go ninja mode. Great video Edward. Keep up the great work.
Great video, Edward. I bought a GRIII recently and so far I think it's a fantastic camera - so small and easy to use, and gives great results. I'm taking it on an upcoming trip and plan on using it extensively.

I've just picked up a barely used GRIII a week ago and just started shooting street/architecture photography as well as mundane life momentd, and, i have to admit that i'm having a very hard time figuring out how to take good pitcures with it. The autofocus is always missing the point, it's not as snappy as advertised.. Yea compared to Sonys and the autofocus on those systems it’s much different but I find spot focusing to help a ton. Just try out the different focus modes to see what works best for you.
Cool video explaining the differences. GRIIIx is tempting since it's the same focal length as my Rollei 35S. Haven't found use for wide angle since downtown SF is pretty much empty these days.
I was looking for a camera that I could travel with, not so expensive and also that felt like an extension of myself when I'm out. I think I´ll choose this over the fuji since your thoughts about this camera are exactly what I really wanted
