Pilates Tips: Can you go from Standing to Sitting to Standing? | OPC

  • Studies show that if you can go from standing to sitting and back to standing without using your arms that you will live longer. Yep, 10-30 years longer than those who have to use their hands.
    So, how do you do that? Is there a special technique to it? Luckily in the Pilates method, there are plenty of exercises that help you open your back up, reach from your seat and control from your center.

    Hi Lesley, What would you do for a client that has osteporosis? I find the older generations are the clients that really need to work on getting up and down using less hand support. Thanks so much

      absolutely they do! Especially the ones that never did it before they get older. I actually have them show me how far they can go that day and then we lower them to down the way they need. But I have them practice lowering down to sitting on different height chairs and even the reformer I make them show me how they can lower with control. And, I have them try to stand out of their chairs, the cadillac etc without using their hands. They may never get to where they can sit all the way to the ground but I like to get them trying to do the best they can and get the max strength and flexibility we can.
