Extra tip from subscriber Umbrella Draven:
Double and triple plaiting will also sometimes be called a belly. A single belly whip would be the same as a double plaited whip, and a double belly the same as a triple plait.
Dude. 1:21 Not an exaggeration. I told my wife I wanted to buy a bullwhip. She rolled her eyes and shrugged the idea off. Whatever, right? I’ve just spent 3 hours shopping for whips before coming to the conclusion that I don’t know what the hell I’m looking at. Thank you, kind stranger. You recognize what it takes to make a video for a total newbie like myself. Ok, back to the video.
Haha, I'm so glad it's helpful!
Hey is there a design and set of colors together that you would like to see that you haven't done but no one has ordered or you haven't got the chance to do so
I love the whip I got from you a lil while back it was neon orange and camo orange with a concho and cross in the handle butt
Why did this pop up in my suggestions? I've never thought about getting a bull whip. After watching this video I feel like this is what's going to fill that black void I have in life.
Haha, the mysteries of the youtube algorithm! I hope you enjoyed it :-) Stay healthy and safe out there!
Same. £57 Amazon delivery arriving soon with ball bearings and 400ft of parachute chord ffs
Especially after all of the riots last year
I was looking up boomerangs as a winter hobby. I can do this whip thing in my yard. Handy, but a high creepy-cost. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm the person in your video! I started looking to buy a fake whip for Halloween, then I found your channel and learned what whip cracking actually is and how it can be a versatile performance sport! You just made a sale my friend!
Watching an Adam Winrich video is what hooked me on whip cracking - I'm sure I had the exact same expression on my face as in your video! This is a great intro to the ins and outs of buying a whip.
I knew nothing when I started. So, everything I know came from you. I found it very informative. Thanks
I just got my very first whip from your Etsy shop thanks to this video. Today I was able to get my first whip crack after about 10 minutes of trying to get the motions down. Very helpful video and I'm definitely going to be getting another one from you when I feel like I've gotten good enough to start trying different whip lengths.
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the order, it means a lot!
Dude! You are awesome! In ever sense of the word. I've only just begun my journey into paracord about a year ago and can honestly say that the way you educate the community is nothing short of remarkable. In 2 tutorialsof yours I've completely shifted my perceptions of paracord. Thank you so much, keep them coming sir. It's guys like you that keep this whole thing alive and in the light of day where it belongs.
Thanks Mike, with comments like yours I'm gonna have to make more content!
Love to you, Nick, and Adam. Lol the intro was accurate for me two weeks ago. I look forward to learning more.
Very entertaining and informative. That beginning segment.. you should totally get an award. lol. You CRACK me up.

Nice work man! Love the intro!
Thanks Nick, means a lot!
Is that your Minnesotan or Canadian voice?
Your intro one of the funniest things i have seen on you tube.. 10 thumbs up lol.....
that open is perfect.
😅 Thank you!
Is say just make your own with paracord. Pick ur patterns. Colors. And very rewarding when u crack it for the first time.
I agree with u, Eric. Very rewarding when u crack that bad boy with a loud crack
His reaction was mine Mine arrives tomorrow!!
This is really a great guide. I appreciate anyone who encourages the art of whipcracking as well as informing people what quality indicators are.. I don't particularly agree with the amount of bellies in a whip being a sign of higher quality as much as a indication of weight distribution versus binding versus balance/etc. I think, though, that whipmaking is as individual as the maker and each of us have a formula according to what we want our end result to be. It is also my theory that leverage comes from a long handle and accuracy comes from consistent binding, keeping your bellies lined up and straight plaiting. There again, we all do our own thing and it all comes down to passion and how your customers are treated. Cool vid. I love that bird's eye plait on your bullwhips. That is very pretty. I subbed to you :)
Hey Jessie, thanks for the sub! I just popped over to your channel and I love the work you do on your handles, unlike anything I've seen before, very inspiring. I also super appreciate your comments here, especially about accuracy coming from consistent binding. Maybe my theory about longer handles making for more accurate whips is controversial, haha. Either way, thanks for the input, I love talking with fellow whip makers!
Awesome video! I was just about to make a similar video but your video is better than anything I could do. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much April! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I released this video before I met you, and I already want to make a part 2 sometime including some great pointers you gave me!
I'm drooling over that Belmont whip you've got on your shop.
Also cool you're from MN as well! I'm like an hour north of you lol
That's awesome! Haha, a fellow Minnesotan!
I'm a newbie..what's the difference between a paracord whip and a leather or roohide type and what are the pros and cons of the different types of materials used to make whips? Thanks for a very detailed and entertaining video
Hey Kristy! Great question. The first difference is going to be price, roohide whips will be much more expensive than paracord. Roohide whips will have a better taper, as the strands can be cut to taper while paracord strands are always a fixed width. This being said, there are a lot of tricks that paracord whip makers use to make a taper as smooth as possible. These are some basic differences, I could go on for a very long time on this subject, haha. Let me know if there are any more specific questions you might have!
I would love this video more, but I can’t help how much I love stock whips
Great video regardless!
I'm thinking of getting a bullwhip and this helped a lot. thanks!
Wow this was quite helpful. I am an amateur whip maker and i have no idea what I’m making. but thanks to this video i now understand.
You are most welcome! I'm glad this was helpful :-)
Hey, thank you so much for this. It answered a ton ow questions I didn’t even know to ask. Will be ordering from you this week as soon as I determine exactly what I need. Cheers

Starting to get into whip building and I'll admit that lightsaber whip in the background has me deeply curious on how to achieve something like that myself.
Excellent PSA. Thank you.
That was me in the into 😂
Would you ever be willing to do a video on the way you start your bellies or your plating I saw you do this weave pattern in your tested whip video you made for Adam winrich and I've never seen one started like that and I'd love to learn how

It is in the works, I hope to have something like that up in late March!
WhipWorks that's awesome you do your videos and very professional and well-edited and just good quality overall with very good information one of the best whip channels already by far on RUclips you're doing good work love your Channel
As a huge Castlevania fan (my first cat was named Reinhardt, after 64's Belmont cousin), I've always been curious about learning how to use a whip (more for fun than actually fighting ofc, I'm not a very violent guy). Thanks for putting this video up, very silly and very informative!
@fire Gee, one could only wonder why the protagonists of a historical fantasy series would wield one and not actual people in that case... 🤷
@fire Because I don't need to be told the obvious? Literally the only reason I mentioned fighting at all was because I mentioned Castlevania. Act like a know-it-all and you're going to annoy people, if you haven't learned it before I hope you've learned it now dude.
@fire They can be. If you attach a blunted metal projectile at the end of a long enough whip, a strike to head is as fatal as a gun shot.
One second I have some question
I'm a 10 y/o kid and I a turning 11 this year
And I want a whip for my birthday I've been saving up money and it's been about 7 months or 6 and I have $100 dollars but on your website the 5 footer Bullwhip are at $234 and $199. But my questions are.
What do you think would be a recommended bullwhip for my height? By the way I'm 4'8.
Should I wax it?as I will probably leave it outdoors.
Is a mid size handle for me like a 10 inch handle?
Can I use it in dirty areas or wet areas while the whip not being waxed?
Pls Respond.
Sounds like you'd do well with a 5 or 6 footer and a 10 inch handle :-)
So funny and a real advice. Awesome. Thank You!
I like the scream! Lol great video brother!
Great video.
Watching the video and pausing every few minutes to google conversions from Inch (American) to Centimeters (Whole world) helped me find out that 6 foot is not as long as I though
What a great video! Thanks so much for the information.
That opening was not an exaggeration at all... Literally have had weeks of choosing one then changing my mind hahaha
thankYou! this is gr8 information...
Hello ,thank you for the info it's been very useful and interesting.
whats the best one for wrapping around trees and do you make them out of leather
I think you'd want at least an 8 footer for that, maybe a 10 footer!
Buncha awesome points man, great job
Coming from a roo side of the fence here, I would like to throw in (for what it's worth) that typically, bolsters are not in and of themselves bad, they are only limited. The main reason for having plaited bellies is that if you made a belly out of one single strand of leather, or whatever else, it would experience material fatigue by virtue of the inside of the curve (of a thrown whip), being compressed while the outside of the curve is being extended. Now all of this may be very different on nylon whips, but the gist remains the same; bolsters re there to fill-in the space in between the strands so there are fewer air pockets and so a denser thong (which means a more efficient transfer of energy from the handle), but it also aids in defining the shape of the thong, though perhaps less so on nylon whips. Point being a well-made whip is not merely defined as to the number of plaited belies... Cheers!
Thank you for commenting! This is a great explanation. Since I have made this video I have done more thinking on a couple of my points made in this video. I may make a part 2, if I do I will definitely mention this!
It was Paul Nolan who said David Morgan had once told him that by the time you make your 1000 whip, you understand how much you don't know about whipmaking! It's a very large world and there are many ways of making a whip, but the basics are still the same for all of us. Make that second video! I'd love to see it!
legit me trying to buy my first whip today
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣,believe me your intro was the truth, not an exaggeration
buying arrows from ali express will drive u crazy .
OMG GREAT VIDEO!
6:40 Surely you must mean blood and skin pieces, right?
Haha, not at all! Bullwhips are relatively harmless when properly used :-)
Could you do a video showcasing your Indy whip??
That is a great idea!
i extremely love the design of the middle whip on your right shoulder black and green its AWESOME and i want an 8 footer could a replica be ordered as such?
Absolutely! Here is a link to my 8 footer listing: etsy.me/2J5drOF
greatly appreciated thank you man!
I wonder if is possible to braid the handle to make little hearts, that will be so cute
Tooootally thought this is was for DBSM. Great video and full of great information! Very cool
Do you know if Leather Bond is a good whip company? I’m thinking of getting there kangaroo hide leather whip
Watch my "Whips, you get what you pay for" video, I review a B's bullwhip in that, the whip that they're selling on that website. The answer is it depends on what you are looking for, but it is not a fun whip to crack
So how are the differences between Nylon and Leather when wrapping your whip around a small tree on a hillside to pull yourself up or something, would the nylon grip at all?
I have a 6 foot
How would you compare to a snake whip?
Now youve got nearly 4k bro 🍻
Thanks!
So, what is plaited? How many layers it has or how many strands it is done with? You said it was both. I have heard each layer referred to as a belly.
Did I mispeak? I'll have to watch it again. Yes, a layer of plaiting. Do you have a Kindle marker for where I say the wrong thing?
11:41 it starts. I was mistaken, see 4:45.
4:45 is where it starts. Sorry, I looked at the wrong time mark.
I'm making one and looking for the best way.... handle length?, whip length , loaded length, .... only certainty I know so far is stretched kangaroo leather
You should check out my how to make a bullwhip series! on my channel!

I made a 4 foot whip with some jewelry a 50 BMG shell athletic tape and paracord it took me 10 minutes to be able to crack it almost perfectly it’s 4 feet from the very tip the right before the handle and im 13 dose this mean im good at using a whip?
So for Round 45 dollars which one do I get
I've had 5 meter long whip. Freaking hard to crack :D
Good Market*... Love It!*

Hi can i use that bullwhip to a robberer?
Im from philippines!💓i am 16 y o i want to know how to use that bullwhip💓🙂
Dada
If you only care about loud cracks, What would be a good whip then? Any ideas?
Xeno Tube I think that an eight footer with a ten inch handle is what you're looking for. If you truly wanted to think only about noise level, the longer the louder up until the point that you can't control the whip anymore. So a 10 or 12 footer would be very loudl, but harder to control. I like the 8 foot length because it's still relatively easy to control and it has a great wallop to it!
Do you know the whip lengths includi g handle lengths of the whips used by soren when he is killed by raze in underworld ???
Oooo, interesting question
Honestly, there are probably multiple lengths of whip used in a scene like that, I'd say a 7 or 8 footer with a 10" handle though
@@whipworks4468 hmm cheers... I am thinking of ordering two whips but want to make sure i can get the measuret correct because it would be based from that particular scene.. sorry im a cosplayer but only use genuine stuff so id end up ordering your proper whips 😉 ...also id end up training with them

Nice work bro can i ask something is leather bullwhip stronger than paracord?
Hey Iou, Honestly, I think paracord may be stronger, as it's synthetic. Leather has it's advantages obviously, but paracord is probably stronger overall!

Ya! Reach out to me through my website or my etsy shop and I'd be happy to do a custom order for you. I did a custom whip with my Emerald pattern plaited as deep into the thong as I could that turned out great!
Damn I’d like to buy a whip, I’m saving up for one. Also, could you use old candle to wax the whip?
That's awesome! I'd love to make one for you. You would need a lot of candle wax, I use paraffin wax to wax my whips. You'd have to make sure the candle wax wasn't dyed, unless you want to color it, which could be kind of cool actually!
I got plenty of white tea candles, and I’ll definitely save up to buy one from you. I’ve seen your site and they look like true works of art. I’d like to ask what whip and handle lengths you’d recommend for a beginner?
@@goodboi4939 White paraffin wax should work perfectly. I always recommend a 6 or 7 footer with a 10 inch handle for a first one. And thank you for the compliment :-)

@@danielhudson6628 You got it!

Okay but what about leather whips? Paracord seems to be the big thing now but some might want that more classic look. Does it make a difference? Do we look for other factors?
Paul TheSkeptic You bring up a great point, I was only talking about paracord bullwhips here. The best whips in the world are made of Kangaroo hide. This is an expensive but incredible material. Paracord is much less expensive and more resistant to the elements than leather, you also get a huge variety of colors to choose from. They both have their advantages, but if money is not a factor a Kangaroo hide whip will perform better.
Well, thanks. Actually, if you wouldn't mind too much, could you tell me what you think about this? www.ebay.com/itm/BULL-WHIP-10-Feet-12-Plaits-Cow-Hide-Leather-CUSTOM-BULLWHIP-Belly-and-Bolster/173157364352?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D51376%26meid%3Dbf40b93217f04d17b583ea448186ef14%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D162032674799%26itm%3D173157364352&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A7279c26c-4817-11e8-87a6-74dbd180f925%7Cparentrq%3Af9fe55a51620a9c140c8efe2fff93a4f%7Ciid%3A1
It's not all that expensive but it costs quite a bit more than the really crummy ones. I don't know, with some things you can buy a cheaper one and be fine. Guitars would be a good example. Cheap guitars generally play fine and sound fine. On the other hand skateboards, if you buy the cheap one you're buying something that's dangerous and difficult to use in any meaningful way. I don't know about whips. Do I need a really good one? Is this one adequate? It seems to be right in the middle of price ranges.
Anyway, thanks in advance. I'd certainly appreciate it if you took the time to take a look although you're certainly under no obligation to do so. But thanks. :)
I think that this is probably a great choice to see if you are going to enjoy the hobby of whip cracking. Cow hide deteriorates and becomes stiff after exposure to just a little bit of moisture. Kangaroo hide is what you want. If you know that you are going to enjoy the hobby and want something that will last, paracord is the way to go. I can almost guarantee that that listing on ebay makes it look better than it actually is, to be able to sell it for that low of a cost the leather must be very thin, on top of it being cow hide. I'm also a whip maker though, haha. I hope this was helpful!
Yes, it was very helpful. Excellent, thank you very much. That's exactly what I wanted to know.
hey @@PaulTheSkeptic I have this exact whip from Ardourous (and a few others). If you just want to crack it and make some noise its ok... but it sucks for target work, as their weaving (Plaits) aren't as tight as they should be.. and the fall off is not the gradual "beach-ball" that is required for that level of control.
