Daily reminder that Josh Turner is one of the finest musicians on the planet.
he`s truly in a league of his own
Josh is the best, most versatile musician on youtube. Hands down, no contest.
Totally agree!! He is amazing! He is up there with the greatest musicians that have come out of Indiana. As an Indiana native, I am so proud of him.
I do not disagree.
100%agreed
Yes - absolutely.
yet he still hasn't played little wing on a trumpet. hmmm
Best musician nowadays. Charismatic. Talented. Versatile. He belongs to the "one in a liftime" group of people. If he would have happened to be young in the 60s, he would today be one of what we call legends.
100%
Perfettamente d'accordo!
his playing is immaculate but honestly the legends are known for their songwriting and innovation.
@@lowieh.3451 Try to live in a time when everything has already been done. Try to have talent for something that has already been seen. Try to think of all those songs from the 50s and 60s that are considered masterpieces today but only have 3 or 4 chords. Now watch the video again and dare to underestimate what you see.
@@agusgarcia_e this is not a new lament
As an Irish Traditional Session player fan of yours, this is absolutely Brilliant Josh‼️
i never, ever write anything online. but i can't help lauding this performance. the musicianship on display here is... there aren't words. there really aren't.
this song is incredibly difficult to play. then to sing over it is next level. then to do it with incredible feel. it's just not of this world.
I couldn't agree more. Just seeing this now for the first time. Incredible.
In the early 70s, my mom brought me to coffee houses and the 17ths street pier for folk concerts. Josh, you bring me back to those days. Thanks.
The musicianship and skill are unquestionably top tier. Even more amazing to me is your ability to make these exquisite recordings in public spaces; boggles the conventional wisdom of a perfectly controlled sound booth. Everything you do is unconventional and excellent! I always look forward to your next creation. Tip of the hat to you sir!
THIS!
Bert would be proud, you make it look effortless.
I doubt there's a musical genre Josh Turner can't turn his hand to, a great musician.
Superb version Josh and it's a nice tribute to the late great Bert Jansch who influenced so many guitarists. It can't have been easy for you to sing whilst playing such intricate guitar. Bravo.
Let me pull up a rock and sit and listen to this all day. That guitar handiwork is mesmerizing.
OMFG...
Josh.... This is AMAZING
You are such an incredible musician. Your repetoire is so extensive and it shows in your playing.
I was hooked when you showcased Nick Drake, an absolute hidden gem in my eyes, and now this.
Thank You for sharing your amazing music.
Bert Jansch has been one of my biggest influences as long as I’ve been playing and I was lucky enough to see him play with Pentangle before he departed.
Wonderful cover Josh, thank you for this!
You seem the first to have mentioned that this a guitar arrangement is 100% Bert Jansch…plagiarised without acknowledgement of course by Jimmy Page! You and I must be of a similar vintage as I too saw Pentangle and Jansch solo and in a duo with John Renbourn. This version by Josh is flippin’ good. He is indeed a terrific musician.
Nice work. Bert Jansch would be proud! Beautiful playing Josh.
Witnessing the passing of many great artists, it's comforting to be able to listen to a young one who will stay with us many more years.
Absolutely superb. Bert Jansch of course played as a foil to John Renbourne. John was a jazzer who migrated to folk. One of those rarities a jazz/folk player. Best shown in the epic Jack Orion track by Pentangle. Over 20 minutes,
and gave Bert and John a vehicle to demonstrate their respective skills. Would love to hear Josh do Jack Orion.
Sounds like a new timeless classic Josh. Congrats on the haircut
The vocal inflection is so authentic, very nice!
This Bert Jansch tune that has been with me for many years. To hear you Josh, bring it back life with your personal touch that I so respect.... Thank you.
Awesome.
You are such a great musician. People always say just raw talent gets you there, and they leave out the amount of time you have probably practiced to get there too. Kudos for both the talent and the practice. Always a joy to listen to.
This is a very wise realization.
Not only talented but also diligent and above all persistent.
Greetings
Master guitar player. Beautiful ❤
I was going to comment about Anne Briggs teaching Bert this song, Till I saw the end of your video. The origins of many old tunes are obscure and usually it is impossible to pin them down to any particular country, You are part of this rich tradition where songs are passed on from generation to generation. Anne, Bert and you have all put their own brilliant stamp on this song. Thank you
Far better than previous recorded versions of this piece that I have heard.
Sublime
Thank you for all that you do, Josh. Originals, covers, infomercials, everything. You're so talented and you bring joy to so many. Thank you!
Dude you're insanely good.
Lovely different version of a favorite song.... go Josh!!
Beautiful guitar work Josh. And yes, I thought I recognized it and then realized Jimmy Page had 'borrowed' it on their song (conveniently called) 'Black Mountain Side'.
He gets everything right. Beautiful tone from guitar and vocals and incredible precision from both as well.
I don't think anyone realises how lucky we are to have Josh and the ones around him including Allison Young. Music is dying as a whole and these guys, among others, are carrying it on their backs.
I'm grading school-leaving exam, yet can't help but stop to listen to this in awe. That's what you do to me with your music in general and this song in particular.
Wow! Great song - played exquisitely! ❤
This is incredible. Not the most engaging song I have ever heard but still beautiful. But what is just absolutely overwhelming is watching this musical genius play this composition.
There is no wasted movement in either hand and both hands are constantly in motion. It is beautify to watch, simply astounding.
I feel blessed by the messiah Yeshua to have the opportunity to see this
Standing ovation!❤
Nailed it - what a classic song Bert would be proud
Surreal. One of my favorite performances of yours, Josh. Some people certainly have had on of their better strolls around the Park with this lovely melody echoing between the woods!
Alright Quick .. lol are you kidding me .. incredible..!! So well done 🎶💙🥰 This is amazing.. I watch this over & over again .. thank you Josh 💙
Just fabulous! What a treat indeed. Plus doing it outside gave it a nice organic vibe. I still can’t fathom how people can sing while playing something so intricate.
Having only heard the Zeppelin version, I never knew this song had vocals.
A long weekend, a new vid with new album announcement from one of my favs (Buck Meek), and now Josh covering one of my all time favorite songs; a timeless Bert Jansch rendition of an awesome folk song. Can't complain :)
NICELY DONE SIR !
Took me right back to seeing Bert Jansch and John Renbourn in Pentangle in the early 70's. Brilliant.
I would love if you make a tutorial on this… the rhythmic guitar is beautiful and so is the modal harmony. I don’t think I have it in me to figure it out by ear. Awesome cover, Josh. You are an inspiration.
That is so amazing, I honestly have no words 😶
It's been a real pleasure for several years now watching Josh mature. His skill and versatility is a great gift to us all, and I'm glad he found a comb.😁
There's power in story's, multiply it by ten when its put to song then played by a skillful hand and melodious voice and you have a work of wonder. You're gifted by a Higher Power, Josh ('it ain't natural'). I hope that knowledge (if you could believe it) is to be both celebrated but also sobering/humbling. Like Michael Angelo finding 'David' in the rock gifts like these are from another realm.
Proper folk music. Huge respect for doing this song.
Holy shit, nice, you nailed it ❤
Fun fact : I started playing music and discovered both Bert's music and your channel the same year, roughly thirteen years ago. So You and Bert have a similar weight in my musical journey. Thank you for a dear reminder of it with this cover.
Qu'est-ce qu'il est bon celui-là ! The more I see youy play, the more I see the gap between my guitar, my bass, my ukulele and me ! Bon, on va pas laisser tomber !
Love bert jansch!
Another wow performance. Difficult both in guitar chords and vocals. Flawless. What a pleasure to listen to!
This is what I like the most about him : solo singing while playing a seemingly impossible guitar part!
I love watching people whose fingers still work play the guitar. Wishing you a long life free of arthritis! That is wonderful playing.
Back again. I just can’t get over how effortless this seems.
thanks for keepimg the memory of our Bert (and Nick of course( all those people staring at your left hand . . .
John and Davy as well... Real ones know the right hand is where all the difficulty lies!
@@oldtimetinfoilhatwearer Derek Trucks - same applies
Stunning. You make it look so easy. I'm in awe of your musicianship Josh. My Dad comes from a village near Blackwater in Co. Wexford Ireland (which I believe this song is about). Also not far from where "Saving Private Ryan" was filmed. It's famous in Ireland because it's believed none of President Biden's ancestors come from there!
Brilliant. Love the way you play through the plane noise-pollution, so badass lol
Just popped to RUclips to see if a cover of this existed. Man this is awesome well done!
Brilliant Josh, don't know how you get such a fabulous sound out in the open. Keep on surprising us, cheers N&J🎸
Imagine being so good at guitar that you could add flourishes over a Bert Jansch song
I've listened to a couple of recordings of Jansch playing this, and Josh's version is crisper and better overall.
Beautiful picking.
Oh wow I love this! Your videos are always such a wonderful combination of musicality and production quality.
Pure talent. Bravo.
Saw Bert Jansch play this several times in different venues in London. Your rendition is spot on, and you were probably more sober .......
I wanna thank you. As I approach my 60th year on this planet, you have brought me back to a better time and place, a time and a place where and when people actually made music … playing an instrument … imagine that 🤔
You are an inspiration.
Thank you.
Ahh....Takes me back to the days of Bert Jansch, one of my all time favorites, along with John Renbourn and Pentangle. Bert's version was the inspiration for Led Zep's. Beautiful!
Inspiration? Riff-off don't you mean.
I've been obsessed with this tune for at least 10 years, but particularly recently, and listening a lot to George Boomsma's excellent version (with Katherine Priddy's beautiful vocal's too also, in her duet). I couldn't believe it when your upload notification popped up on my watch! What a treat, thank you, it was exquisite, as i expected. I can only imagine the hours that went into learning and polishing your version of this lovely tune. Please keep up the wonderful work, i also love re-watching your Black Water video which looked like a lot of fun to record.
Must be something in the air. I've been trying to learn Bert's arrangement for the a few months and now Josh has come along and nailed it probably in no time at all. Whats a guy to do. Love the version you mention as well. I find the timing and getting the right feel pretty challenging.
This has a bit more going on than Bert’s arrangement, too. Just ridiculously rich playing
Clean and perfect. Yet again.
Huge Bert Jansch fan here! This may be my favorite song of his
me too - and The First Time . . '

Man, I absolutely LOVE your vocals and acoustic guitar! Great sound and the recording is crystal clear. Excellent production!! 😁
whole lotta josh. love you.
Beautiful just beautiful 😊
I am speechless! this performance is simply amazing
He gets it and he explains it to us perfectly.
That's amazing - the tone, the vocal, the arrangement too!
Maman !
It's not the only traditional tune, played by Bert Jansch, wich was stolent by Jimmy Page - eg "Bron‐Y‐Aur Stomp" wich i have on a vinyle recorded as a scottish traditional by Bert Jansch.
Brilliant rendition of this folk tune. I love Bert Jansch, and I really enjoyed listening to this.
As a novice ukulele player, watching Josh fret on this song was completely mind blowing. What an amazing performance. Great job Josh!
Josh is the BEST in the world.... honestly!! I share him on a guitar forum where I hang out and ... everyone loves him!! Why wouldn't they???
thank you its beautifull song ,long life to you and happyness
Man, my bum would be killing me!! Your a true rock star!
Yep @thomashayes3417, and after 60 years playing, I struggled with my pitiful finger style arrangements for church on Memorial Day tomorrow, the praise for Josh, his years of labor, blended with passion, I am most happy seeing in him as all of us, that which I have come to call...
Fully Engaged! That was beautiful Josh!!!
Great job Josh! I love your folk music.
Fantastic Josh !!! getting just a little older but so genious with hi fingers on the ropes!! Go on Josh ! Philwill
spectacular performance, thank you so much for sharing
Outstanding! Bert Jansch would be delighted with this cover.
Heroic.
Amazing job with this! Always in awe of your skill and musicality🙌🏼
Brilliant! Love that Bert Jansch is also know in tha USA ❤
Merci Josh pour cette reprise! We'll need a guitar tutorial on this one ;)
Bert Jansch is proud of this very good cover ! For sure.
A beautiful reminder of listening to Pentangle, Fairport Convention & Steeleye Span when I was younger.
(I still dig them out at times). Love all your work of any genre. Thanks for the many hours of wonderful music.
Gorgeous!!!!
Extraordinary!!
Thanks for the nostalgia.....Pentangle fan since the 1960s.
