What a wonderful orchestra, and a wonderful performance. This orchestra has a real, solid "German" sound to it, which I love! Please post more of this wonderful orchestra/conductor. Many thanks indeed from the UK.
The Serenade for orchestra in D major, K. 250 (248b), popularly known as the Haffner Serenade, is a serenade by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart named for the Haffner family. Mozart's friend and contemporary Sigmund Haffner the Younger [de] commissioned the serenade to be used in the course of the festivities before the wedding of his sister Marie Elisabeth Haffner and her intended, Franz Xaver Spaeth. The Serenade was first played on 21 July 1776, on the eve of the wedding. It is in eight movements: I. Allegro maestoso - Allegro molto II. Andante III. Menuetto IV. Rondeau: Allegro V. Menuetto galante VI. Andante VII. Menuetto VIII. Adagio - Allegro assai The second, third and fourth movements feature prominent violin solos. Indeed, the rondeau (the fourth movement) has been arranged for solo violin and used as a popular virtuoso piece. It is assumed that the Marcia K. 249 was intended as entrance and exit music together with this Serenade.
Stuttgarter Kammerorchester are absolutely first class, follow direction brillintly and as a result the note intervals and lengths, for example, are absolutely perfect throughout. Thomas Zehetmair has as good a grasp as anyone of the nature of these serenades and how to perform them, compared with, for example, the symphonies, so this is a wonderfully lively, lilting, lyrical and melodic performance. His violin playing is technically very good, although I prefer the rounder tone obtained by some violinists, for example Elizabeth Wallfisch. Overall, an exceptional performance and one which has immediately joined my short list of favourite Mozart serenade interpretations, thank you.
Saluti
Though the performance sounds very much satisfying, I am a bit confused with the use of timpani in this work. In many recording it is absent. Presence of trumpets in the score might be seen as an intended but probably lost timpani part. Yet the implementation here sounds a bit too dramatic for a serenade at certain moments such as 9:15. Thanks for the upload. Great, really great work by ensemble and konzertmeister!
The orchestra is very good but I have some reservations with the violinist. He is good, but here and there he does not play what is written in the score, neither convince me his personal decorations. Just personal taste of course. .
Bravo Mozart ! Excellent Performance 🔝 11:31 - 26:03 - 34:57 - 49:21 - 51:47 - 1:00:20 🎶

I'm very much intyo the german sound myself. I was never too confident if such a thing existed, but after all these years I'm afraid it does.....

Satz Haffner Serenade).
