It's getting good but I think they could do better than 52 degrees fov and snapdragon 850... it's all about marketing and profits after technologies are established when they could be giving us something 3 generations ahead now!

Intel 8650h processor....and 42gb of ram are definetly not accurate... It runs a snapdragon 850 with 4gb of ram 😅😅😅

on a scale of 1-10 how hard are these on your eyes?

I've only used a prototype Hololens 1, but it's not hard on the eyes at all. Like, NO eye fatigue at all. That part of it was amazing. The only real huge downside of hololens is it's field of view is very small. Hololens 2 is supposed to be better.

already looks so dated compared to the Apple Vision Pro. This seems to be the usual routine, all these cool things are out there but no one really cares save for some small niche markets, then in comes Apple and does it actually well and blows up the segment taking over and leading the pack. Is the HoloLens dead now? Unless Microsoft really steps up its game now I don't think it will last long. Price point is similar to the Vision Pro but inferior, so why buy this from Microsoft when you can get a screen that is night and day better, eye tracking, better audio (assuming Apple did it better here) and an over all better design.

Your comment shows the power of apple marketing more than the quality of their products. Vision pro is a VR headset, hololens is AR. Completely different and for different purposes. Even if they market it as more it is purely a VR headset with a great passthrough. Holens 2 has been out for 4 years and is used a lot in Industry and not aimed at commercial yet, so no its not Dead now just because there is an extra VR headset that will compete with other VR headsets. HoloLens is still ahead of its time in AR standards nothing can match it for now

I disagree the Apple Vision still comes out next year and Microsoft could drop HoloLens 3 before that, plus MS team has 10 years experience and 3 versions already, the Apple product didn't look all that much better. Plus MS has contracts for industry with their product military uses the HoloLens you can get one with a hard hat attached that are used for site work, apple is so far behind the leader of the pack Microsoft.

@@scottpark2395 How long was Windows CE out before the iPhone or the iPad came out? Apple is never first out with these products but they have a proven track record of coming out with something the masses actually buy and use and change the market with it. Apple is not going after military contracts, that is small potato's compared to world wide consumer purchasing. No guarantee it will be a hit of course, but Apple knows how to create hype and how to sell, better then anyone else. It will be interesting to see the hololens numbers against the Vision Pro after a years time. I am more curious though to see what Apple brings out as a consumer model with a more reasonable pricetag

I don't agree with this evaluation. You're comparing two similar but not identical technologies. Vision Pro is VR/pseudo-AR. Hololens is true AR/MR allowing you to interact with the digital in your real world environment. Apple's attempt at AR/MR is nothing new. They use cameras to pass video through to the monitors on your eyes which don't/can't visually track at the same speed our eyes do. It's why people feel nauseous and have to move really slow when turning on pass-through mode on other platforms (I'm specifically calling out Oculus here). This may change with 4k/8k screens with insanely-high refresh rates. If this is where Apple has gone with the Vision Pro, I'd be interested to hear about anyone's experience with these improved refresh rates.
Another problem with this is that Apple Vision Pro isn't even available, yet. By the time it's availableHololens has been out just short of 8 years. If this is the closest Apple can get to AR/MR, they're still at least 5 years behind.
That said, Hololens might actually be dead. It's no secret that Microsoft got rid of the big minds behind Hololens. Some of that was due to bad behavior, but much of it was due to revenue focus. They've shifted their focus to Cloud and AI for enterprise customers. They're so focused on enterprises, that even the Hololens was never slated for consumer review. It was only ever going to be an enterprise tool, and that makes me sad. I feel that Microsoft abandoned the consumer under some of their previous leadership. That's why they can't compete with Apple. It's not because Apple does a better job and makes higher quality tech. I can't stand their tech. It's junk (in my not-so-humble power user opinion). If I wanted to run a UNIX-based operating system, I'd run ANY flavor of Linux over Mac OS garbage. Even Google's abysmal Android OS blows iOS out of the water. Apple doesn't make things better. They just do a better job of marketing to the consumer.
All of that to say, Apple will continue to be the leader in the consumer space (and consequently fail miserably in the enterprise/education spaces) while Microsoft continues to alienate the larger and better paying segment of the population; consumers. The future doesn't look good for Hololens. So, you had better get it while you can if you're collecting gear for your AR/MR/VR museum (or mausoleum in this case).
