    Mint. I added some brood frames to the slower/less populated colonies also, what a difference. No point in letting them struggle right.

      No, you're right they need help, they can't grow without help when their under critical mass, especially this late in the game she needs to be wide open establishing nest and brooding winter bees for sure.. thanks for your continued support!!!

      This would be the moment when i use lactic with a spray bottle (it's better if it sprays fine.. we call it an atomizer top ).
      It looks like they don't have too much capped brood.. a brood frame from a big hive could have big hive varroa in it.. than the small hive makes a ciklus of brood.. and you end with sick winter bees not making it.
      I used to OAV hives like that (with a small home made VAP like John has) but i find it much easier to spray every frame right there when i'm looking, working the hive.. and move on

      @@researcherAmateur I'm hitting this one and a leftover cell builder again this morning you are exactly right on the brood frame..I have actually lost splits in the past due to it,I think if someone only has a handful of hives it'd be good to label donor frames to revert back to when notice big Varroa in the split..you'd know the donor is probably way over limit

    • @researcherAmateur

      @@badassbees3680 yeah it's always good to know that.. and easy with 10-15 hives. Should be normal practic.
      I used that small Vap that way on splits for many years. This year my only treatment is a brood break and a spray bottle

    Really like your videos. Like me, Keep It Simple. Have you ever use mite strips from Walmart., Fluvalinate mite killer?

    • @badassbees3680
      @badassbees3680  3 года назад

      No... Fluvinate is pretty nasty on Queens and comb they say..I don't care for Formic cause it's rough on bees...I like Oxalic Acid at certain times and if I was worried or wanting to use strips I'd use Apivar (Amitraz)...I just don't like the harsher stuff,I'd like formic acid alot if it didn't sterilize Queens sometimes and make bees abscond, but I've had nothing but bad experiences with it even though it's also an Organic Acid like Oxalic, Oxalic used to vaporize isn't that effective with alot of brood but can be done every four days for a few rounds and it's really easy on the bees ,that's why I prefer it..Checkmite and stuff kills shb,but nasty stuff.. thanks for watching and Liking the Video I really appreciate the support! And to each their own,my answer is only sharing my thoughts to give you some ideas ..

    That brood really boost the hive. I think the newly hatched can pack syrup in a hurry. Our golden rod is in bloom central IA.

      I like a full food frame at all times in build up AND at least some in corners of a couple two or three brood frames,that is food in a hive to me,no food around any brood tells me they are basically starving or holding back..once I get some stored on brood frames I stop ,on a growing hive I may use a lil bit at a time to brood but I don't feed a gallon at a time like when their light. Heavy thick syrup will put about 10 lbs per gallon fed in a hive for winter roughly two gallons equals twenty pounds and I don't skimp on sugar.. but it pays dividends later. @@jimrupp7549 that's good the later it gets back off on the water even more,I do way thicker when I need to but it'll crystalize in comb when you go overboard, but get that feed in the combs by the end of this month, you don't wanna be emergency feeding,that's garbage and you don't want a bunch of uncapped so try to get it in there and gauge your flow, you don't wanna backfill to the point they don't have room for making winter bees but once they hatch lay it to em, even after their old capped

    Thanks for sharing John, I was wondering if 4 frames of brood is normal for September? It's a new queen, and I looked at my other hives with only 1 or 2 frames of brood. Thanks again!

    • @badassbees3680
      @badassbees3680  3 года назад +2

      Man there's a ton of variables to that but..here's a book of thoughts..a new Queen that wants to lay and build her nest is usually why some beekeepers requeen in Sept in order to get a prolific Queen to brood up hard for winter..if you have Carnies they maybe slack from Dearth and pollen,nectar shortage I'd feed some syrup unless they have a box full of honey and no room to lay more than a frame or two..or their sick from Varroa and stalled .. hopefully they just haven't started their big winter brood up but are fixing to..if you run Nucs then maybe fine,if you're in a ten frame you may need to condense a lil later just keep an eye on them and best of luck sometimes the bees know what their doing but your new Queen is doing her job well it sounds like
