      I am from South Africa. Biden claimed that he was arrested here trying to free Mandela from Robben Island in Pretoria. And not one of the mainstream medias called him out. Politicians talk nonsense all the time. The problem in the USA is, the one gets scrutinized, and the other one not. Why so?

  • @rebellucy5098

    Embellishment =/= Lying
    If someone just casually said "we probably had the biggest rally ever" yeah that might not be true, but its not a lie. Lies require some kind of intentional deceit to happen. Theres no such thing as an accidental lie. Theres a reason we have the words "lie" and "misspeak" as well as "mistake" and "misinformed" and use them all to describe similar situations with varying levels of intent and willfulness.

    • @captainchaos5705
      @captainchaos5705 Год назад

      I would argue Trump was actively attempting to deceive his base, trying to make it seem like he's more popular than he really is, and that despite what the media tells you the majority of people want him in office

    • @atlas42185
      @atlas42185 6 лет назад +1

      Trump's lies are not harmless. That is the biggest double standard I've come across all day, and you back it up with absolutely no evidence or reasoning. When Trump lies it gives people who always take his word at face value false information about important policy decisions, and ammunition to people who never take his word at face value.
      Holding a higher standard to elected officials is essential because they are often the primary sources for information on political events and policy. If we can't expect at least moderate honesty and knowledgeability from politicians on a regular basis you shouldn't expect much from news organizations who report that information (setting asside editorial pieces which are opinion).
      Given that government is most often the penultimate decision maker failures of government are more profound than failures of individuals within specific markets.

When Trump does something he doesn't agree with, he will call him out on it (as a lot of other conservatives with good morals do), but I respect Ben particularly because he is not only fair to Trump in his evaluations, but is actually quite supportive of him despite the fact that he clearly doesn't like the guy.

Libertarians want to expand the military even more than the military asks?

    • @UnchainedEruption
      @UnchainedEruption 6 лет назад

      Home Wall Be realistic. Change happens in baby steps, not overnight. You have to be willing to make compromises in politics to get what you want. This is partly why libertarians never win, because they expect the impossible to happen overnight and that’s just too large a leap for most people who aren’t familiar with our principles.
      I would much rather have Trump in office than Hillary or Bernie, and if we’re going to be honest something tells me the same thing would have happened under Gary Johnson. You have to remember the President is just a President, not a king. Even what I would consider quite within reason for an executive order has been struck down in the courts numerous times. Trump or any president can submit a budget proposal but Congress has no reason to actually follow it. It’s just a plan, nothing more.

    • @lordblarg
      @lordblarg 6 лет назад +1

      A lie is a lie... however, all lies are not the same. I'll condemn his lies when they happen, but they don't really matter, so I move on. It's like... I care if someone steals a dollar, but I care far more if someone steals a billion dollars. To say these are the same is rather ridiculous. Priorities guys. Furthermore, exaggeration is different from lying. They can both be bad, but they are not the same. If I tell you that my car is the greatest car ever; we both know that I am not being literal. He toes the line here and it is rather annoying and that's about the only valid point I see in this "President Trump is a liar" business.
      As for “My guy’s lies are much more benign that your guy’s lies.”, this is quite obviously true. What meaningful lie has he told? The previous president spoke meaningful lies [i.e. if you like your doctor, you can keep him]. Saying your crowd size is large is rather meaningless... If Obama had said some lie on this level, I would not have cared, because it doesn't freaking matter.

      Also the cure for Birtherism was to display the long form birth certificate in a way that could be scruitinized by the doubters, which it took five years for Obama to do. If you really want to talk about a feedback loop, Obama (a black man from Hawaii with a Japanese surname and a foreign parent) crying racist instead of rudely shoving it in the face of the few few people that questioned him is what caused "the birther movement".
      It took him five years to produce a document that you need to open a bank account or get a drivers license. And after he did the movement died in a reasonable time period. There's crazy on both sides, we all know that, but "the Birther movement" attracted reasonable people because, and only because, Obama refused to prove something that we've all had to prove at one time or another.

    In trumps defense, the left-wing bias and fake news was very much a thing long before trump got elected, it was just refreshing to see someone of prominence call it out. But yeah it gets out of hand and has become a vicious cycle. I am just enjoying watching left-wing media cringe and stumble and make sh!t up under the constant accusations from trump. More and more people are starting to see the bias, and that Fox news isn't the only biased news site, and we honestly have trumps demeanor to thank for that.

      It would just be that much greater if he didn't stoop to their level though. It would add even more heft to the denouncement. I'm not a Trump supporter, but I am a big fan of him calling out the BS in the system. Wish he didn't contribute to it though.

      m jared Swenson Exactly, everyone forgets the numerous journalism scandals before Trump even took office. Remember the Stephen Glass fiasco? Or the RollingStone disaster that was Sabrina Erdely? And The fake WMD in Iraq was a classic disinformation campaign brilliantly executed through the WSJ and NYT. Journalism had been in a state of decline for years, probably since the internet starting providing serious competition to the traditional news outlets.

    Wait a minute. So Trump is responsible for journalist's actions? The last I checked, most journalists meet the legal criteria for competency, making them responsible for their own actions. If anything, this era has proven beyond a doubt the unprofessionalism of the media today. I don't know if they still teach proper journalism in school anymore, but back when I was in school, we learned that you could not run an article without two independent, confirmed sources, or else the story likely could be false. Most stories I see today have buried somewhere deep within the content, "according to an unconfirmed source". We also learned that that which is common and uninteresting is not news, but that which is unusual is. "Dog bites man" is not a story, but "Man bites dog" is.
    Today, the WaPo, CNN and NYT are just as much the public relations branch of the Democratic party as Fox and NY Post are for the Republican party. In fact, Fox is more likely to attack Trump than the others are to defend him, but only when he doesn't follow the Republican Party line. Do me a favor. Find me one article in the last four years in WaPo, CNN, or NYT that supports or agrees with anything that Trump has ever done. (This doesn't include the token "other voice" articles, where the paper runs an article from a conservative columnist.) Trump must have done _something_ right? A stopped clock is right twice a day, after all. Even if he had only done one thing that they agreed with, that in and of itself would be so newsworthy that all respectable journalism would report it. Instead, WaPo deems headline-newsworthy that Trump boarded Air Force One with a piece of toilet paper stuck to his shoe. The editorial positions at these agencies are intentional -- all-attack, all the time. The fact that many people cannot recognize this demonstrates the gullibility of their confirmation biases.

      Think you read into this what you wanted to see. He never said that Trump is responsible for the media's actions. Quite the opposite. He said that the media is responsible for their own actions.
